  1. Trust me, there are parts at the summit of Ben Nevis that look like you're going to fall off the face of the Earth!
  2. To be awkward, I'm gonna guess 22nd May and Bournemouth or just outside...it's unlikely to be there, but I'm running with it!
  3. I'd better get my thermals out then...it's looking like another "scorcher" here, I'll be sad to leave it behind!
  4. Some people will do anything for a snow fix won't they! Nice pics though, glad you had a good time! Wish I'd had got some yesterday, I saw some marvellous views. There's always the summer, and the weather will be better!
  5. It's good to hear - the heating bills were bad enough in the winter without having to worry about being cold in the summer! I'm not really used to seeing the stuff off the North Sea per se, as I live quite a way away. It's been really quite sunny here - even the days we were supposed to have thunderstorms turned out sunny - it's very strange. Might even be similar to what your having in Exeter, further illustrating the difference. By the way, are these pictures in any way related? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7994658.stm
  6. Is it really that bad up there at the moment? I'm coming back up on Sunday, in the middle of 3 nice days predicted for down here...please tell me that it's not gonna be cold and grey when I get back?
  7. Well, not so far this year! And I think the closest we got last year was at a barbecue, sitting outside seeing the storm strike over the neighbouring county!
  8. Your memories seem to tally with mine then! I just can't remember much cloud, let alone rain, but I swear it was hotter than the records that J07 (thanks btw) seemed to produce. I dunno, we're further south than Boscombe Down, and I don't know whether that helped. It may have been more May time than June, however. I'm pretty sure it wasn't 2005 (my GCSE year) though. Memories get hazy...maybe I should keep a diary this summer! You're probably right about the north-south split in that year. Again, makes me wish I kept a definite record of it all...
  9. It's sunny and warm! Couldn't tell you what the temp is, wish I could...
  10. It was hot...I think I had some cheapo measuring thing back then tbh though! It was definitely June, and wasn't either of the 2 locations on the avatar...won't make a lot of difference, nearest places were Blandford Forum and Dorchester, DT11! I remember the heat just built and built, where I was was in the middle of a valley too. I'd be very surprised if 23 days failed to reach 25 degrees, and surprised if 30 wasn't reached once! Still, I'm no anorak, and I was 16/17 at the time... Either way, a repeat performance is very much allowed! <_< EDIT: I've just had a look at the BBC Archive for the June 2006 summary and seems odd because I don't remember much rain whatsoever where I was...and it could well have been 2005 for all I can remember, but I reckon it was 2006...though I could well be wrong...
  11. That sounds very much like what I experience down here - it's certainly never cold in the height of summer, and my bedroom window is south-west facing (ish), so i get a very hot sun coming into my room, in excess of 30 easily unless I do some extreme ventilation! There have been times when it's just been unbearable, even when not even wearing a T-shirt, I'm still sweating buckets! Though this won't stop me wanting a long hot summer! June 2006 again please! Not a day below 25, most over 30 I think...
  12. Spring is the most gentle season in the UK. Though it can act a bit confused - you can have about 20 degrees in March (as we did a couple of years ago) or snow in April (as I did last year) and that's just the south! Thunderstorms are nice events here, as we don't get the intense hail storms/tornadic activity quite as often, it's quite a rare occurance for tornadoes to form in the UK. We get most Atlantic windstorms in autumn, they can be vicious when they want! But spring is pleasant, early sunshine, early warmth, April showers, then the heat starts building at the end of May towards 30...usually!
  13. It's a joy - it's actually feeling warm for the first time in months! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy cold and snow, but there comes a time when there's just been too much, you just want a smooth transition to a generally settled (April showers notwithstanding) spring. And can't wait for summer either - means cricket and beach for me!
  14. Hmm..I've been quite amused by the accusations of a media having a southern bias...I see it as more of a south eastern/Home Counties bias. Even on weather forecasts on the BBC (and I've looked for other regions suffering the same fate, but can't find any that either do, or as frequently), the whole county of Dorset never appears on its zoom round of the whole country. But that's a different topic. Scotland is very much, for the now, part of the UK. However, this is, of course, not a debate on the constitutional status of Scotland, neither that of Wales, Northern Ireland or indeed Cornwall. I'm of the opinion that Scotland does not need its own Met Office, mainly due to it being seemingly out of place for many Met Offices in one sovereign state. However, I believe Jersey and Guernesy have their own Mets. These are of course outside the jurisdiction of the UK, therefore are entitled to such. However, I don't know how these are administered compared to Exeter. And the Met Office does an efficient job - it's not as if it is particularly Devon centric (as you'd expect given the location) - so why have it located in Leeds, for example? The media certainly have a London based bias, but I'm not so sure about the MetO.
  15. Yeah, we go out the south block of QMC, and onto Gregory Avenue (I think that's the name) which goes up to Derby Road! This was at about 6 too as it happens! Definately not walking to Canal House in those conditions, I'd be a snowman! Bus it is! Appears to have stopped for now in NG7.
  16. God knows what it's up to out there now, but there seemed to be a decent fall as I was walking back home from the QMC in Nottingham. Plus, emergency vehicles racing around with sirens more than usual - what is it doing to this city?
  17. After having it rain all evening so far, it finally, finally, looks like it's much more snowlike in NG7!
  18. Damn right! Got a pleasant surprise when my housemate was putting out the recycling to see it really falling! Said he doubts they'll be round for it...somehow, I think they'll cope! Btw...how far along is Canal House from like the MFI on Castle Boulevard? The Uni Real Ale Soc should be going there on Thurs for a beer fest there, I'd kinda like to go to, if I can find a fellow victim and where the thing is!
  19. Good to see all that snow "back home!" I'd imagine the county looks great with it all! I got a phone call from someone at my school (Milton Abbey) yesterday telling me that the school was completely cut off by snow! We always got told it happened about 1 in 8 years, but it never happened in my 5 years there! Wish I was there somehow!
  20. And there's me thinking leaving Dorset in winter would get me more snow...
  21. Been stopped for a while now in Nottingham, but we have retained all our snow! Hopefully a base for any further snowfalls the week may hold! I think I've just made the place sound like a ski resort!
  22. Would quite like to hear from anyone else in Nottingham, I'm pretty sure it's still snowing out there, anyone?
  23. It's amusing to see the rain/snow line flirt so close to Nottingham on the EMT weather forecast! Just misses the rain until very late in the night!
  24. It's definitely not rain, or wasn't when I was out, walking back from the QMC to Lenton. It is very fine and coming down hard, but it was still snow. I'm still hoping we can do OK out of this tonight...
  25. Just got back from a little enforced walk, Nottingham has got some persistant snowfall that is sticking still, about 2-3 inches in places where students haven't lobbed it at each other. This doesn't look like letting up in a hurry either.
