  1. Loads of pellets aren't there? I'm encouraged to see a few snowflakes in the mix too, but it's coming down like nobody's business!
  2. And it's started properly showering it over Nottingham (Lenton) now!
  3. Exactly the same here (big surprise)! Though it was a short-ish burst...
  4. I agree - I'm not all that far away and almost nothing has really fallen, but it has suddenly got darker as if someone's hit a lightswitch! And the snow is starting to reacquaint itself with Nottingham now!
  5. Everything seems to have quietened down in Nottingham...if anything, it's getting a bit brighter here, worrying.
  6. Very fine looking bits of snow trying to fall in Lenton, Nottingham.
  7. It's cold outside, wind doesn't help. Cloudy overhead it looked for the now (this being Nottingham). Very dry - probably makes it feel colder too.
  8. Thanks very much for giving us your analysis on the situation! 10cm is more than I'd ever remember from my childhood (though I have vague recollections of a decent snowfall in Eastbourne when I was young - moved there at 5 months in 1989, left in Dec 1996, think it would be towards the latter end for my memory! ) so I'm quite happy with this. Although it might not last, I do need to get to lectures and people need there workplaces. But if the ECM comes off - that's great by me!
  9. I used Humberside as a general term that was encompassed by the Humberside Police Force. I have already apologised for this, as I seem to be in most eyes an "ignorant south-westerner." It's just seemed a convenient term for NE Lincs and the area around Hull. Obviously not, in some eyes... By the way - Nottingham appears to be a complete rip off on a Saturday night. Don't go there!
  10. I'm about to go out into Nottingham now, if anyone would care to let us know what the 18z has in store for the area, do let us know in this thread! Hope everyone has a good evening and a good sleep ready for the fun to begin tomorrow!
  11. I heard Darren Bett last night saying "Those winds bringing in cold winds from the east, never a good direction at this time of year." Care to disagree? I'm slightly worried though...it's cold in this house at the moment, and I don't want to put the heating on too much for fear of extortionate heating bills! That and the elderly being at risk.
  12. I think the BBC are being deliberately confusing to cover their backs. They have articles about the potential for a lot of snow to fall, in addition to the heavy snow warning, but it at the same time, they have almost nothing showing for Sunday night when thay should be. Very poor. Now, where did I put my TV Licence...
  13. Cheers for that, my student loan won't afford me a NW Extra subscription! Should do a student discount! Just been down to the Tesco's at the bottom of Lenton Boulevard/Park Road, it's pretty cold out! And seeing as I may be heading into "citteh" tonight! I think they might just have guessed! BBC forecasts have been hopeless at the moment, been ridiculously vague!
  14. A friend of mine here at uni who is from Leicester has that issue as well! He says that it's because of the way his aerial is pointing that he receives West Mids in Leicester! Anyway - Leicester is in the East Mids region, so you'd better post in this!
  15. Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I've not looked at the Precip charts for the 12z, but the 6z ones always had the heavier stuff over our region or the Thames!
  16. Absolutely right - like I say, it's all over the shop. The ECM has been very consistent, and I almost expect another solid output from it tonight. The UKMO should be interesting too. Wanna see the GEFS ensembles, I bet it's on it's own with the mild sector positioning.
  17. I remember my Uncle telling me about when they moved the Dorset border in 1974 to accomodate Bournemouth and Christchurch from Hampshire (I live down that way permanently, but am spending more time in Nottingham due to uni). He had a house in Bournemouth and would often write to the Royal Mail when they sent him correspondance with reference to Bournemouth being in Dorset, saying "I bought a house in Hampshire. If I wanted a house in Dorset, I would have bought a house in Dorset!" I hope it won't be marginal - GFS has been more wobbly than your average drunk driver! I'm hoping that I can bring some good news with the Euros this evening!
  18. Update according to 12z GFS - milder conditions entering Lincs in the mild sector with the 0C isotherm intruding, making precipitation more likely to be rain. Hope this isn't followed on the Euros or other future runs. I like it! Should have it slightly further south, get in all of Notts, Lincs, Leics, Northants and Derby.
  19. Right - casting the snow for our area. GFS 06z: Predicting the -5 air to enter the region at about 9am tomorrow, with precipitation first coming into the UK in E Yorks. http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090...6/27/ukprec.png -10 air is in evidence 3 hours later, with heavier precipitation into Grimsby and Hull. http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090...6/30/ukprec.png Fairly decent precipitation, almost certainly of snow, certainly heavier than other areas, should ensue for a few hours hence. Now the mild sector shows its hand at T+60 - Monday 6pm, introducing possible sleet into East Lincs: http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png Precipitation is still of a decent intensity... This then spreads across the region, introducing a possible snow/rain mix. However, the milder upper air is always about -2 or -3, so shouldn't be too rainy I would hope. I am yet to check the thicknesses, though these are also marginal at this time. Colder air reintroduced across the region at T+75 (Tues 9am), accompanied by drier conditions: http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090.../h850t850eu.png http://212.100.247.145/gfsimages/gfs.20090...6/75/ukprec.png That's just using the GFS 6z - I may do a more comprehensive look through when all the 12zs are out with more models. If someone with more knowledge than I wants to try a hand, then they're welcome! Let's see if it pans out like this!
  20. I'd say Bournemouth is South West (look at the ambulances - South Western Ambulance Service) but some residents have been posting in the Midlands and Central South thread.
  21. Haha shocker! :o 12 miles outside and it's up north! I'm in Nottingham at the moment anyway, but family and friends are still there! But I'm sure you Hampshire folk in Bournemouth might see a flake or 2 on the wind (like I did on my driving test last January)!
  22. Do forgive me if the reference to Humberside has offended, I was trying to go with a general term (along with the local police force) that would cover the NE Lincs and Hull area! Hope you get a decent fall up in Beverley! :o
  23. It will probably fall better, but then go quicker. Just the way. At school (near Blandford Forum) they always used to say it would get cut off once every 8 years. I hope they have a chance this year, because they are well overdue! They are 120m asl in a valley though!
  24. Bournemouth needs a dump (of snow that is - first time I've put Bournemouth and dump in the same sentence, I never will again about the lovely place) because a cover is well overdue! I do have some pics from last April from Verwood when snow just about stuck around in the morning. I hope that all of East Dorset is all white come Tues!
