  1. Coq au vin? You tease! Are you using actual "coq", or chicken breast? Either way, I could do with a recipe to use sometime! In exchange, here's a radar: http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
  2. If you're interested, I've done a little more digging and found this news story, presumably from yesterday: http://lci.tf1.fr/france/faits-divers/bloques-six-heures-dans-le-froid-alerte-maintenue-sur-31-departements-5630542.html They're reporting from the département being hit by the streamer! I'll keep updates coming in the Cold Spell Discussion Thread about the English Channel Streamer and the updates from France.
  3. The Monday warning indeed references high ground, but for Sunday... *Adopts MetOffice Voice* There is a high risk of severe weather affecting parts of northern England, the Midlands and eastern Wales. Outbreaks of snow developing on Sunday will become heavier and more persistent during late afternoon or evening and persistent through the night and into Monday morning. 5 to 15cm of fresh level snow is expected widely with 20-30cm locally. Drifting in the very strong winds will cause even greater accumulations in places. Disruption to transport networks and icing on power lines is possible.
  4. Just think of my fellow students (most of whom are moaning, as it happens) that have to try and come back to uni tomorrow in what's looking like some interesting conditions. And then the students trying to get to exams on Monday morning is going to be interesting to say the least! At least my first exam isn't until Friday... As you say, it'll be all stations radar tomorrow!
  5. Picking up on this, that same warning text will be used for Yorkshire, which contains the Pennines. The 20-30cm totals are almost certainly reference to them and The Peak District. Of course, that doesn't discount that Nottingham could be in for a fair bit of snow! Bring it on!
  6. Funny you should say that, just been on Météo France, who say that parts of the Cotentin Peninsula (the bit of France that's getting hit before the Channel Islands) will have up to 40cm of snow lying combined with the falls of previous days! Here it is, if anyone wants: http://france.meteofrance.com/vigilance/Bulletin?ZONE=dept50 Will be interesting what he has to say!
  7. Come now, C_S, what was that for! It's snowing in Nottingham, and we have our weather warning for Monday, what more could you want?
  8. Just put another update in Cold Spell Discussion - I'll keep looking back to the French website to get more info! I wish I was there too, if I was home I could have hopped on a ferry either to Cherbourg or the Channel Islands!
Observed conditions on Saturday at 12:45pm GMT: Snow showers continue to fall over the départements of Manche (the one getting hit hardest), Côtes d'Amour and Finistère, similarly in Calvados, the coastal area up to Boulonnais. They are of moderate intensity. Inland in Brittany, snow has accumulated locally up to 20 to 25cm. A north easterly wind blowing in at 40mph keeps things feeling cold. Other flurries are present in the Bay of the Somme and the countryside near Caux (I think). Evolution: The instability will continue throughout Saturday between Brittany and Basse-Normandie, up to Nord-Picardie, with moderate snow showers giving on average 2 to 5cm and locally up to 10cm on hills inland. In certain areas already heavily hit by snow (the centre of the Cotentin Peninsula and the "pays de Caux" [don't know that part of France]), the accumulations with the further snow may occasionally reach 30 to 35cm locally!
  10. May I refer you to an earlier post of mine? http://forum.netweat...ost__p__1727079 Can update it, too! 11. I can rival that. I just popped down to the supermarket in my car. Now, in order to get going, I had to get the snow off the car. So, I did what any mildly sensible person would do, so I turned on the ignition and whacked the heater up, then proceeded to scrape the snow off the car. When it got to the windscreen, I thought "hey, I could use the windscreen wipers for that" - so I gave them a wipe to see all the snow come off...right into the driver's seat because I'd left the driver door open. Silly boy. Still, I have pictures of what happens when the Nottingham Snow Shield is on the blink!
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLNrLI3OBwg The Mighty Cherries had our away fixture at Rotherham postponed by Sheffiel City Council! Still, one thing less to distract me from revision!
  13. For some, not others. The NG7 Snow Shield is back with avengance!
  14. Have you been up since then? You tart! Some dandruff on the wind in the gun capital, probably blowing snow off the ground, the sun is beating down!
  15. Well, it's looking like Cannock will get what we had, so you might be surprised how long the snow lasts for!
  16. It certainly was! Which pub? I had a sober one last night, instantly regretted it when I woke up at 7:15 and could get back to sleep. Hate to break it to you, but it's the stuff from Mablethorpe attacking us! Get your Lincolnshire seaside resorts right!
  17. Nice flurries round here at the moment, and what with everything out in the North Sea, there should be plenty to come! And this surprises you how? You should know the GFS factors in the Nottingham snow shield...
  18. We're just scraping 2 inches at the moment! There's been a huge snowshield over Nottingham, Leicester and Derby, only yesterday's band broke it! Tuesday was terrible, the snowless centre of the trough stalled over the East Midlands. Hoping to pick up a load of these snow showers today though, albeit sloppy seconds after Lincolnshire's had its fun... Certainly looking like decent showers for anyone between Grimsby and Skegness - should certainly top up most places in Lincolnshire. It'd be nice to see Louth get some snow, there's not much else fun going in the town (except one cracking pub)!
  19. For those of you interested like I was (all none of you, apart from MCT ) about yesterday's English Channel Snow Streamer, well, it's back again and hitting the Channel Islands quite hard, not to mention the Cotentin Peninsula (which is mainly département 50). Found something on http://www.meteoconsult.fr - an orange weather warning out for département 50 (Manche). Basically (for the non French speakers) - (As of Saturday, 6am GMT) snow showers continue to fall in the départements metioned. They are of moderate intensity giving about an inch or so (what you got this morning, Fitzwis!). In Gavray, Manche, lying snow has accumulated to 25cm! A cold north easterly wind, blowing in at 60km/h is making is feel much colder.
  20. Those showers just of Mablethorpe are starting to pick up, look good for us in Nottingham, look even better for those in deepest, darkest Lincolnshire (places like Louth and Lincoln)!
  21. Cheers - was trying to search for French news stories about it, but couldn't find any. Can't find any local press things for that part of France - of course, Cherbourg is the main town, but it wasn't getting hit quite so much as other places in the area! Would be very interested in how much snow fell! EDIT: Found something on http://www.meteoconsult.fr - an orange weather warning out for département 50 (Manche). 22. We've got a fairly well used road within sight of the house, by the fact that there's fresh lying snow on it means there's something! I think it could be said that we've got 2 inches here now, could increase with the snow showers, maybe even more tomorrow. The uni are starting to come under pressure to postpone our exams, people just can't get back to Nottingham, and even people here are saying that walking to uni is dangerous! Yeah, I think these snow showers are something us in the East Midlands are gonna have to get used to today! Even if they are Tesco Value (though Sainsbury's Basics is perfectly fine)! Asda Smart Price? How could you...
