  1. Aww, that's sounding like hard work, but I'm sure parenthood will reap its rewards in the long run. And a pretty awful time to have to do conference abstracts, do you have to do Powerpoints to go with them? Either way, best of luck to you, fella!
  2. Seems like some good banter coming into this thread tonight! Good science principles by keeping it Kelvin, Mackerel Sky! How's the littl'un?
  3. Once it gets to -80 you cease to notice a difference! I have taken stuff out of there in bare hands before, slightly regret carrying them back to the lab without an ice bucket because it was SO COLD!
  4. This is quite possibly the funniest thing I've seen on this thread so far! But it's still no match for the -80 freezers I use as part of my degree!
  5. My 88 year old Uncle has just texted me saying "this reminds me of 1947, when we were out sledging in April". Bearing in mind he's in Tenerife and it's not April, somehow I doubt his claim...
  6. And stopping! This one's hitting Mansfield, not us. Eyes to the shower between Lincoln and Grimsby, with eyes to the band near Hull. Actually, forget that shower approaching Lincoln, as it's dying.
  7. There's certainly that area just near Leeds that looks to be on the way to Shropshire and Staffordshire...and another just north of that! If these keep coming, there'll be plenty of top ups round the Midlands.
  8. I've got my eyes towards Hull and Grimsby on the radar...there are a few showers queuing up to hit Hull, but whether they'll make it inland to Nottingham, who knows!
  9. 1 and a half inches? That much? I had a glance last night and it looked like 1 inch, but I was coming back from the pub in city, so that's not my most verifiable claim ever...neither did I measure it...
  10. Ah, you got in while I was replying to your other post! Yeah, about an inch or so from Canning Circus westwards really, it's still quite a pretty sight! Pretty impressive snowman on the school playing fields just off Johnson Road! I'm sure more will come about, sometime...
  11. Erm...are you sure? I just walked back from town through falling snow... Now, if only those people in Northampton would share nicely...
  12. Just been to the pub in Nottingham City Centre (The Roebuck if anyone's interested), and walked all the way. You certainly notice there's a bit more snow in Lenton than in citteh! Still snowing, it's lovely! With a housemate from Grimsby (who supports Grimsby Town), I hear that phrase more than is prudent!
  13. I don't think this is snizzle...are you still in the City Centre or a suburb? It's coming down now - my second present from Grimsby in 2 days!
  14. The NG7 snowshield has properly given way! By the way, there's a nice heavy band making its way down the A46, I've watched it come all the way from Grimsby and it's just outside of Newark now! Not far to go!
  15. It's still going here - and the radar's showing snow converging on Nottingham! We'll be fine! All the snow here has stuck on roads and pavements where people melted it off earlier - surprised it's settling, the flakes look so fine, but there are many of them!
  16. Cheers! That's not even coming up on the Rain Today radar - doesn't matter because I can see it snowing here anyway! The QMC is partially obscured by cloud (which I guess is snow showers), but it's definitely coming this way and getting heavier as I type! OK, not ground-shatteringly heavier, but the heaviest I've seen today! Looking at the radar, all the bands of snow seem to be converging on Nottingham! Excellent!
  17. I think it's coming up from the SW, which is why I'm getting it in Lenton, but you aren't in Sherwood. It's gonna get to you soon, I should reckon anyway! Good spot, C_S! The Rain Today radar won't let me zoom in, so I can see how localised my shower is. May get heavier, it's looking very murky towards the QMC.
  18. Yep - in Lenton. It's not substantial, but the flakes are bigger than we've seen so far today, so it's nice to look at. You'll get some shortly, no doubt!
  19. I shop at Sainsbury's anyway! It was Lidl snow, but it's looking so much better now!
  20. Oh my. Precipitiation = increasing. Snowflake size = increasing. My heart rate = probably increasing. Might this be the flurry we were looking for?
  21. Maybe the repairs weren't good enough... However, it's is the lightest of snow with the consistency of dandruff. Rubbish.
  22. CHRIST ON A BIKE, THERE'S ACTUALLY SOME WHITE STUFF FALLING IN NOTTINGHAM! Something must be wrong. Snow should have learned by now it's not allowed to fall here...however fine...
  23. Snow shield temporarily moved to NG7 for repairs. I declare it fixed.
  24. From the top of the Council House: Enjoy our failure, all you who are not in Nottingham!
  25. It'd better do - I don't know if I'm hallucinating that there's a little patch moving up from Birmingham and the main band coming down from Grimsby to meet us. Law of sod dictates that it'll hammer it down when I go into city to go to the pub later... It's kinda not doing it any more. Which sucks. These skies are so leaden it's ridiculous, surely something could fall! I think I might keep this avatar for a loooooooong while yet!
