  1. After waiting for the SE forecast I missed it, someone at the door!! think they done it on purpose diablo.gif

Caddy's forecast was for light rain tonight, a sunny morning. Top temperature 2c, but 'feels like' minus 6c in strengthening winds. Clouding over during the afternoon. Snow showers in the evening and then heavy snow Thursday night. Graphic showed deepest snow cover in a diagonal line from Thames Estuary down to Brighton.

    Regards

  2. I'm not sure if this is the right place to put these comments, but as it's a moan, I can't see why it shouldn't be.

I don't like the new style message boards. I find the new print style more tiring on the eyes to read; the colour 'contrasts' on the contents page are not so good for daltonists (those with colour blindness) like me; and it is really irritating that if you open a link it a post, it opens it in the same window, rather than opening it in a new window. I'm sorry if you've spent £,000s, but I don't like it. Sorry sad.gif

  3. A day of heavy thundery showers and very brief sunny interludes. Several lightening flashes and plenty of thunder, though nothing too violent. Not sure how many distinct storms, as the thunder has been rumbling around on and off for most of the afternoon.

I think I might have tempted fate a little there. Had quite a severe storm for the last 40 mins. Extremely heavy rain, and much thunder and lightening, and still it continues.

  4. What heatwave ? B)

Is anywhere over 30 ? What a joke. The Met shouild be a ashamed of themselves putting out Level Warnings for weather that is warm to hot but nothing like a heatwave.

Come back when temps hit 35 + then put some warnings out. ggggrrreee

If you actually read the MetOffice website, I think you'll find they haven't announced a heatwave, there is currently an alert / 'watch'. The heatwave warning will only be triggered when certain conditions are met including night-time minima. All the details are on the MetOffice website. Whilst you may not be affected by 30c temperatures, there are many elderly people in urban areas who will be affected by daytime temperatures of 30c and night time temperatures of 20c. It is for the benefit of the health services that deal with the elderly and others that these warnings are issued.

  5. Well maybe it's no so clear B) Hasn't hit 30 yet has it? I have just come in from playing tennis and the highest I can see on XC weather is 29c. It feels absolutely BOILING out there though, trust me when you are playing tennis and out in the sun it feels unbelievably hot, I am feeling pretty weak now.

Both London and Charlwood near Gatwick reported to be 30.0c (not rounded to nearest degree)

  6. Some of these 30C recordings are a bit suspect. Weatheronline has London Weather Center down at 30.0C, but this station isn't considered for official purposes as it is prone to anomalous readings when considering other nearby sites.

That sounds a bit odd when the MetOffice quote it as 30.0c on there own site as the temperature for London.

30C on the dot is now official in London

I think I said that 15 minutes ago

  7. Anyway 30C has indeed been reached, will be interesting to se if it can make it to 31C, still time for that to happen.

Are you sure about that ? The reason I ask is that at 1pm, the hotspot was London Heathrow at 29.6c (Which some websites have rounded to 30c), whereas at 2pm, the temperature at London Heathrow was down to 29.1c, so are we sure the temperature actually reached 30c? I don't know the answer to that, I just thought I'd raise the question.

  8. Yet another very poor forecast from the BBC and NetWeather for this part of the country. BBC was taking of 'becoming hazy as the day went along'. NetWeather forecast for Brighton has a 0% chance of rain before 15:00.

It has just stopped raining here having poured for about 3 hours from 07:30 and it's still completely overcast, windy and just 13.8c !

  9. So for those bored by the recent dull mild weather at least there will be a change and there should be more sunshine and some heavy squally showers perhaps wintry over high ground in the north but if you're looking for a proper reminder of winter then its hard to see where this could come from, that is unless of course the ecm can stick with its pattern and everything goes right for a change! :)

Nick. If you were still living in Sussex you would know that we have not had long periods of dull weather here. The weather has varied considerably from location to location across the UK. Last Saturday was stunning in Brighton with almost unbroken sunshine and light breezes. Whilst some days have been overcast, others have not. Today has begun with cloudless skies and temperatures of 8c and a forecast high of 13c. Tomorrow looks equally good.

As for the models for next week, it looks like it will turn unsettled. Not much in the way of snow except in hillier northern areas, but certainly turning more unpleasant with cool, wet and windy periods B)

The week started depressing with mild feeling stagnant weather with light winds but since wednesday it has definately felt much cooler with cool dew points and a cool westerly breeze, i can't see anything that high today for most dewpoints still look cool and from tonight onwards we could be on for ground frosts/local air frosts every night.

The GFS goes for highs of 11 to 13c quite widely today

  10. An interesting programme for sure, but not sure it showed 'weather junkies' in a very good light. At the start of the programme when you arrived in Taiwan and you were jumping around in a somewhat demented manner with your Danish friend, I was just thinking there is the possible risk for major loss of life here and these two are just after a personal adrenaline rush. The scenes of the hail storm in the US Tornado were very dramatic, but I think the whole programme painted a rather sad picture, sorry.

  11. Can someone clear something up - As i'm confused....

Is there a main band to come after this, or is this it?

By the looks of the radar, it will have cleared London by 9pm....

    Am I getting this wrong?

My understanding is that although the rain has moved up from the south so far, the wrap around effect behind the low (which is moving up the Channel) means that the rain to your North West will start moving back towards you.

  12. I also noticed they removed the risk of snow for E counties tomorrow morning as the LP pulls away and this is definately due to the warming effects of the N sea as the upper temps are actually colder!

I'm not sure that is correct. The BBC News24 forecast said that it would turn back to rain/sleet in the South East as it cleared because the precipitation was much less intense.

  13. Yep the warmest part of the warm sector has arrived over you - illustrated nicely by the NMM tonight (albeit that I think it has the low tracking a little way south of where it actually is):

And there was me hoping that if we continued at the current rate we'd reach 25c by midnight. I guess I'd better put my shorts away again then :D

  14. Yeah, but the general idea preventing the rain/snow from reaching here still exists. I swear the weather gods don't like the extreme southeast, they did this back in October! 1.5C and dewp 0.6C at the moment, just waiting for the precip lol! :wallbash:

Well I can't grumble. We had 14cm on Monday, so missing a few flurries this evening doesn't really worry me . Off out for a pint or two I think <_<

  15. as i said before, deja-vu of 28th Oct - the snow lingered over the London area for yonks, because the rotation of the LOW right over Kent stopped it from moving any further southeast. Looks like the LOW is over us at the moment, preventing it from moving this way! :wallbash:

    1.6C and 0.7C respectively

I think the centre of the depression is due south of Brighton now. If you look at the radar on the MetO website, the 'rain' over Worthing has move back west again and a new area has appeared south of Eastbounre and appears to be moving N. Def seems to be an anticlockwise circulation centred about 30 miles south of Brighton.
