  1. Just what the doctor ordered here in the northern lake district. Good lengthy sunny periods all day except for an hour or so this afternoon when it clouded over. Now almost cloud-free and excellent visibility. Fast jets been practising low-level flying throughout the valleys of the lake district both yesterday and today.

Various climbs and hills of god's own playground !!
  4. A lovely day so far in the northern lakes, sunny intervals and feeling warm, variable breeze. Since moving up to the lakes in early March the weather has been fantastic always changeable always something different very often in the same day. With mountains involved even Met Office forecasts often out of date. The mountain forecasts are usually pretty good. This is a weather enthusiasts dream place.
  5. Overnight low of 7.2c and dry. Now sunny with well broken cloud and 13.9c . All tops are clear, it's going to be a lovely day on the fells.
  6. Dry overnight with a low of 6c. Calm. Atmospheric cloudscapes with clouds pouring over the ridges and into the gullies of nearby mountains. Currently overcast and 10.3c
  7. Rained continuously for 12 hours from 4pm yesterday to give 5.1mm in total. Overnight low of 8.8c. Pressure falling slowly. All tops clagged-in, getting brighter as weather system moves away southwards. Temp currently 11.6c
  8. Everywhere frosty white when I dragged the curtains open at 7am. Overnight of -1.2c and almost cloudless skies since. Temp now 11.8c and calm. One last decent day tomorrow then rain arriving late afternoon and into Sunday. Visitors pouring into the northern lakes. Luckily I have many local hidden away places to explore.
  9. Another overnight frost with a low of -0.5c. After a sunny start cloud cover is now complete although Great Gable still visible in the distance as well as local tops of Blencathra and Great Dodd. Temp currently 7.0c. Pressure still rising.
  10. A lovely sunny start in this part of the lake district with an overnight low of 3.8c. Seven consecutive days now without rain. Threatening dark skies yesterday afternoon over Blencathra but no rain fell at valley level. Breezy/windy over the last few days has taken the edge off the temperatures and still very chilly at a height. Ideal conditions for the high fells.
  11. Overnight frost with a min temp of 0.3c. Now sunshine with cloud beginning to take over. 11.3c
  12. Overnight frost and cloudless skies to start the day. Beautiful. More cloud now but still very sunny and temp 5.3c
  13. Snow, sleet, hail rain and gales. Now full on sunshine shining down on snow capped mountains. The lake district in all it's glory. Sssh dont tell anyone.
  14. Clouds rising to reveal snow level down to about 600m. Blencathra summit looks well covered and Sharp Edge as always tempting me
  15. Yes I do the same. I have to learn a whole new set of local weather vagaries, made a little easier by the mountains which of course mean, expect any and everything. I am also lucky to have uninterrupted views of Blencathra, Souther Fell to the north and Clough Head and the Dodds towards Helvellyn to the south. At present heavy rain/sleet/graupel shower temp 4.6c and looking towards Keswick, views disappearing as a wet afternoon rolls in.
  16. Another wet day yesterday 9.8mm. Overnight a further 7.6mm. Snow on the tops and a overnight low in the valley of 4.0c. Gusty winds in the early hours which have now subsided but due to pick up again for a few hours when further rain arrives late morning. Sunny intervals at the moment and 5.2c
  17. Rain throughout the day, much heavier during the afternoon. Minimum temp of 8.3c now. Rainfall of 10.9mm and still more to come before midnight. Max wind gust of 40mph from the SW at 07:48. Several hours of snowfall due for Blencathra over the next few days
  18. Lots of snow on top of Great Dodd ... as you correctly say superb conditions. Looks like lakes will get a good topping up during next week.
  19. Lenticular clouds over the northern fells this morning. Overnight low of 0.6c. No sign of any overnight snow.
  20. In the northern Lake District low of -0.6c overnight. Slight snow covering at home, but higher fells plastered. A wonderful sight and few more days to come.
  21. Northern fells of the lake district have a sugar coating of snow down to quite low levels. Overcast, low cloud, calm and temp of 3.2c
  22. Dull and damp here all day although late clearing gave a colourful sunset and an ethereal light
