  1. An overnight low of minus 4.8c in the frozen northern lake district. Temp already below freezing. The summit of Blencathra retains it's snow cover.
  2. Overnight low of -0.4c. Snow visible on Sharp Edge. Blencathra summit obscured. Snow also observed on summits of Great Dodd and Clough Head
  3. Went for speed today so Scales Fell as that is my end of the hill. A winter crossing of Sharp Edge in full alpine splendour is the stuff that dreams are made of, although roped with iceaxecrampon (forgive me) feels safer than crossings at other times of the year. Love Halls Fell route and getting in the gullies and having a look round especially if we get a good cycle of thaw/refreeze.
  4. Love how so many get sucked in by the pub-run time after time, year after year.
  5. Windy in the northern lake district and plenty of sunny intervals. All tops are clear.
  6. Damp and grey all day after cold start max temp only 5.4c but temp now creeping back up to the max of today.
  7. Overnight low of -0.7c slight air frost visible at daybreak. Blencathra and Great Dodd have summit snow. 2,500 feet seems to be the snowline. Heavy snow expected over Blencathra this afternoon.
  8. Heavy showers started at mid-day with some hail mixed in but now a covering of snow on top of Blencathra wooohooo
  9. My local hill, Blencathra, still got snow forecast for Sunday to Wednesday lunchtime.
  10. From the northern Lake District - Slight overnight rain with a low of 11.3c at 00:14. Now - 12.2c breezy, dry, cloud and pressure steady at 1010mb Summits of Blencathra and Great Dodd obscured
  11. Heavy dew, almost a ground frost in the rural northern lakes with a min air temp of 3.8c. Now one of those heart stopping moments of cloudless blue skies although cloud now starting to cling to the summit of Blencathra. I have recorded rainfall for the last 15 days. Unlikely any will be recorded to today.
  12. My first frost (ground) this season just up the road from you was on 16 September. Temp has dropped below freezing on 17/09 and 13/10
  13. Plenty of minor roads flooded in the northern lake district but all passable with care. The waterfalls and becks all full and impressive. Really beautiful to see all the becks pouring down the fellside. Thirlmere will be grateful for these recent heavy rains as I am sure will Haweswater.
  14. Hi Damian, Still getting to grips with the local vagaries of the weather up here. I note that the weather system that is moving into the Lake District later today is coming from the north east. During the winter are systems from this direction more likely to be wintry. Many thanks. Jim
  15. Distant flashes to the south of me in the northern lake district, fantastic lighting up of Great Dodd and Clough Head
  16. Dry and sunny with a low of 6.9c. Pressure falling.
  17. Dry overnight with a min temp of 6.9c Lovely sunny blue skies over the mountains presently.
  18. Another chilly night with a min of 5.7c following a min of 3.3c for the previous night. Lovely sunny blue skies this morning in the northern lake district. Excellent visibility with all fells both near and far visible.
