    That gets my award for most sensible post of the day. Anything beyond 72 to 96 hours is FI as far as I'm concerned and best taken with a lorry load of salt.

    The last cold spell looked dry on the model output, but look how much snow some of us got from it. Get a decent easterly and all kinds of things are possible.

    Agreed. In some ways I find it more interesting than the weather over the past few weeks, simply BECAUSE it's so uncertain and the models, even more than usual, are struggling really badly with it. Fascinating.

    Raining south of Carmarthen, temp is +1.3c (coincidentally, this is the same temp at which it started snowing yesterday - we now have higher uppers and dewpoints creeping in though hence the rain).

    From the radar it's thinning a fair bit and breaking up.

    Snow may well fall all night, yes, but not settling that well in some places. For example, I have about an inch on the ground after over three hours of moderate to heavy snow - trouble is that the temperature hasn't dipped below +0.6c so it's wet snow and, while it's settling and going white, it's not accumulating all that readily.

    Definitely settling now, although I have to say that if it suddenly stopped all we would have on the ground is a dusting! Temp still falling, now +0.8c .........

    I know, but it seems too soon, the cold usually takes time to build up. Anyhow, time will tell. :unsure:

    A bit of mixing going on here with the air and hence the temperature - was 1.1c overnight, when I got up it had fallen to 1.0c, a short while later it was 0.9c ......... and now it's 1.2c.

    Seeing as nothing is falling yet I think that they are mis-reporting - I'd like to bet that it's on high ground where the temps are sub zero and existing lying snow is being blown around and drifting, so causing the road problems.
