London & South East Regional Discussion 16/01/13 18z------>
tasty_snacks replied to A.J's topic in Regional
Indeed, all eyes on the next run. You can GFS bash all you want, but it's part of a westerly trend that starts to kick in only 36 hours out. A continuation of that next up and it could be curtains for many of us. I don't mind waiting for next week's snow - I'll be in Biarritz this weekend where it's looking like rain, rain, rain and +12c.... That said I could use the match at Selhurst being called off so I that I don't miss it! -

Ditto - none on the pavement; the 1cm was taken from the lid of the recycling bin! Was handsome all the same. Few flakes outside now - that'll be the first and last of it this evening. -

I don't know; I was rather pleased with the 1cm this moning - certainly more than expected and lasted to around 11am. The westerly extent of the PPN is pushing inland, which is good news in that in means at least S an SE London will see a few flakes falling. We're certainly going to miss the heavy sstuf fthough which is now tracking due south a few miles east of the M25. -

Walking a tightrope here in SE15 - transitioning between sleet and snow - latter as the PPN trends towards moderate. As soon as the intensity does down, we're back to sleet. There's literally nothing in it to call one way or t'other. I like the look of the echoes out West in a northernmost line from Ascot to Wembley, so here's hoping it can continue to pep up over the next hour or so.- 861 replies

I'm sat right under that, but hasn't been falling as heavily as the radar would've suggested, IMO. Turned sleety a few mins ago, to boot.- 861 replies

Scooting around the regions, it would appear that the NW radar is pretty damn accurate with the snow/sleet/rain distinction. With the green and blues encroaching ever further to the South, this is not splendid news for those of us south of the Thames for the next 2 - 3 hours. Temp perked up markedly here in the last 30 mins - very little of our 1cm overnight left. Boo hiss. We shall see.- 739 replies

I'm debating whether to leave home and head for Quuens - we have centre court tickets today. Less than 2 hours play and we get a full refund on the face value of tickets. Dilemma! -

NWF, we have snow in Peckham Rye, over. Managed to see the first few flakes. More like graupel at first; was solid and falling at some velocity. But is now very small, and very poetically falling to earth. It's almost as if gravity has only just won. -

Spirit of the blitz, eh? Looks like Powelly has managed to sort things out at The Valley - good job you've got so many points on the board because the customary Charlton 'can't win a game in the last 15 matches of the season syndrome' will kick in soon. And we need a tasty local derby seeing as Millwall are going down. Deeper snow at The Valley or Selhurst tonight? I reckon you might win that one. -

You think that's bad - there are 400 odd hardy Palace souls heading back to South London from M'boro, right through the middle of it all. They'll be having a hell of a journey. -

well, the snizzle began here about 20 mins ago. instantly dragged temp down to 1.0 from 1.3....now 0.9... should garner a cm or 2 by dawn for london, provided the temps don't rise anf ppn stays heavy enough. -

not sure if you can benefit from any significant 'streamer' on the south coast. geography simply doesn't allow for it? -

i always found croydon quite barren snow-wise; really does warm up towards the centre. they do have a fantastic wind tunnel caused by the 'scapers though, so excellent for large drifts in blizzard conditions... -

given the wind directions as per the GFS, looks like those benefitting most would be norfolk, east suffolk, essex and kent. would have to really push inland for notable quantities to reach london and home counties. -
