  1. quite a bit here last night too. it had been sleeting for a while and didn't think it'd turn to anything else, but a quick peer round the curtains before i went to bed at 1230 revealed a scene of white. popped outside to measure, just over 1cm on cars and grass, slushy stuff on roads and pavements. watched intermittently from window for a while, more definitely accumulated before turning back to sleet at about 0130. all gone now though!
  2. what a wintry mix on my way home from guildford this morning. fine snow started in guildford at about 0800, turned to larger flakes at 0930, but didn't stick. took high routes home, dusting at ewehurst and coldharbour near leith hill. was really coming down in dorking at about 1030 but was so wet so not sticking. most of verges along m25 from junc 9-6 had snow settling. best though was around warlingham where around 2cm had settled, the b279 towards westerham was a bit sludgy and slippy. light sleet here now, 2.2oC
  3. the tiniest, and i mean tiniest (maybe 0.5mm) ice crystals were floating around this morning at about 0830. it was almost like frozen fog droplets and i'm surprised the gravatational pull was sufficent to bring them to earth. none-the-less they were there, and visible on the car's blue paint. but we've just had a 2 minute flurry with proper size flakes. nice to see.
  4. well, given the lack of thread for today, i shall put it in here. we have snizzle folks in south london! first noticed on my way to work at 0910 in forest hill, se23 then continued until i reached work in dulwich at 0920. looking out the window now, if i strain my eyes i can just about see it still. how exciting! no chance of it turning to rain at the moment at -1.5oC
  5. well, seeing as there is no wintry ppn report thread yet for today, or indeed yesterday for the nit-pickers, i guess i'll have to report it here for now... absolutely delighted to see some of the wintry stuff in my headlights over the hills about 30 mins ago. nothing more than a few dozen spots of sleet in the headlights, but exciting none the less. the car was recording 0.5 oC at that height, currently 2.2 oC back here at base camp where there are signs of drizzle on the cars outside!
  6. i left warwick this morning at around 11am, there was 1cm lying and more falling and on the way. i was looking forward to getting home to see more, but the 1cm we had down here (as reported by the neighbours) had all but melted. just had another dusting from a light 30 minute shower, but didn't stick to the pavements or roads which is surprising as it's been below freezing for a while now.
  7. my thermometers have been all over the place this evening. at work in south london i was driving around all day and had a max of 5 oC in the car. when i left at around 1930 it was reading 4 oC. as i approached home it dropped away, as it always does (usually around 1-2 oC colder out here in suburbia ) to about 1.5oC. there was a very sharp gradient as i climbed towards my house but was shocked when i came inside to find the outdoor thermo reading -1.1 oC  . that then rose rapidly to 0.9 oC, then down to -0.3 oC, and now is rising again and is up to 0.7 oC. that's a total change of 4.2 oC and all in the space of an hour. quite unbelievable. it is also becoming quite cloudy so i'm expecting a little light ppn of sorts shortly. i guessing it'll be rain as i'm now up to 0.8 oC
  8. breezy, and after walking the dog around the block i can tell you it's bitterly cold in the wind. clear skies and shining stars with temp currently -0.8oC and falling
  9. well, i'm making my first official snow, ahem, wintry precip report of this winter. sharp squally showers earlier brought hail , rain and DEFINITELY some wet snow flakes all in one this afternoon. if you were to classify it, it'd be a sleet shower. good to see exeter getting some. i used to have to drive to the moors to see some decent action when i was down there- we had only one dusting in three years around st. james' park!
  10. clear with a slight frost here, no sign of all this proclaimed fog -0.6 oC
  11. blimey you must have rose rapidly last night. in the fog at about 10pm my car was telling me it was 2oC at fiveways. moreover 5 miles away i was at around 1-2oC at the same time. i've always thought wallington was a little warm patch.... it's a balmy 11oC currently here in se22
  12. well i don't believe it, something different down here. no only do we have temps above freezing and no frost, we have fog. reasonably thick it is too- about 70-90 metres visibility. for the record temp currently 1.9oC.
  13. 5th night of frost here too. since saturday it has been sticking around all day in isolated spots. there is a discared piece of cardboard in my front garden (bloody foxes!!) which now has a thick layer all over it. it's been building up over consectutive evenings and must now over 1cm thick.
  14. dipped below 0oC here a while ago. solid frost on most surfaces, currently -0.3. coldest thus far, very exciting.....
  15. another dusting overnight here, though 4 miles away at botley hill there were 3 ft drifts! slight flurries now, not amounting to anything
  16. intermittent sleet/snow this morning. mainly the latter now.
  17. yesterday had snow showers on & off. 3 of note, 1 giving dusting.
  18. woke up (yes, i know) to heavy snow about 20 mins ago which left a dusting. melting away in the sun now though
  19. you're just worried that an over enthusiastic southerner will out do you stratos! the easterly belongs to us i tells ya!!!!!!!
  20. alternating light-heavy streamer snow finally stopped here. snowing heavily through night, had 3.8cm fresh snow on cars and favourable surfaces when i left for work at 8.30. whiteout on side streets, slush main road. this quickly vanished on the main roads as i headed down in elevation. i would expect there to be approaching 4.5cm there now. i didn't post yesterday and wouldn't want to miss the snow league... in the morning it was mostly damp, though 0.7cm had settled on cars and other cold level surfaces. later we had a dusting, then a heavier burst which gave 0.5cm.
  21. been flurrying here for 20 minutes now. big puff flakes. too warm at 3.5oC to settle though
  22. dusting overnight, plus light snow this morning. very cold at 0oC
