  1. just looked outside, and there seems to be the odd flake mixed in to the ice rain. but more's the point- somebody hurried past all huddled up, looking mightily chilly. then i thought about how miserable it is out there, and what with the lying snow, got a cold wintry chill running up my spine. in summary, what a fabulous winter febuary evening! brrrrrrr!!!!
  2. damn noisy sleet here- it's making one hell of a racket on the skylight, and i'm trying to watch the football. roll on fri/sat...
  3. ditto up the road.... waiting for that heavier band of ppn though- may well pep up.
  4. 15 and counting... edit - and settling on the usual suspects. surely this can't last?
  5. getting heavier here in se london. temp is rising with it mind - up to 1.5oC from 1.2oC 30 mins ago...
  6. flakes blowing around outside here. not completely dry, but certainly not sleet.
  7. i do hope so jimmy. just popped out to grab a bottle of wine on bellenden road, and there is still ice and snow lying a plenty. this will assist in keeping the temps down. that said, i will refuse to be disappointed should the ppn be of the wet & soggy variety. we have had the time of our lives here over the last 36 hours! did you see the igloo on goose green, btw?
  8. just went for a walk to east duleich and back, snow fell moderately for the last 30 mins, covering most of the slush and turning it white again. on goose green in east dulwich there are the usual snowmen, but also a snow elephant, a mini version of stone henge and, wait for it, a 12' igloo that children and adults were going in and out of!
  9. still snow here, though a definite thaw setting in at 0.8oC. far too much to have any major effect however!
  10. still falling here, but temp has crept up over last 30 mins. now at 0.9oC. got stuck three times in the car this morning from here to west wickham and back. got to go out again to sw london in a mo... if you need to go out, take a thermos and a shovel. main roads fine, but you'll get stuck on the lesser ones if there's any sort of a gradient.
  11. much ta. think i'll grab a few hours shut-eye, then strike out in that direction before dawn.
  12. where in sw london are you, LLWA? just so that i know where to head tomorrow for the maximum depth...!
  13. firing people for being late/not coming in after major snowfall, as opposed to whether or not they're any good at their job? i suspect with logic like that, his business may be one of the first to go. looks like things may be dying down a little here, so may toddle off to bed.
  14. i moved from monks orchard road in the summer, and thought that was the end of my winter snows... it seems not. think i'll poop up to the white bear tomorrow!
  15. national rail have also just announced that the following train companies are subject to severe disruption & cancellations; Southeastern First Capital Connect Southern South West Trains that will be complete by tomorrow, so no going to work. think i'll pour myself another glass, sit back, and enjoy the show....
  16. yamkin, those croydon shots seem to show circa 5/6 inches??? where exactly are you in croydon?
  17. can we nip this 'the roads haven't been gritted' concensus in the bud early doors?! my road was gritted at 7pm. when the snow falls, it does so with such an intensity that the salt cannot stop it accumulating. then the snow is compacted and becomes solid ice- it takes a while for the salt to do it's thing, and if its constantly being topped up from above, no amount of salt is going to have an effect!
  18. couple of pics. from front door only - didn't want to ruin the view with footprints! can't see anything but the walkway. the colur of that sky is something to behold, and check out the icicles on the lampost!
  19. just popped out again to record depth- 4 inches. in south east london. biggest haul since '91 here i'm sure. my mum on surrey/kent borders reckons on half a foot, though not sure how scientific that is...! thought moving in to london would deprive me of these joys....!
  20. bout time i chipped in. just nipped out to survey, and we have 2.75 inches of fluffy stuff here.
  21. finally died away here after a good effort of constant snow falling (albeir light most of the time) since about 0930. didn't settle except for a little on cars/grass at about 12pm when it was heaviest. melted away pretty much as soon as it stopped. more than twas expected though.
  22. back from my little drive, 7.5 cms here. not many people on the roads. quite funny watching a double decker bus slip and slide down corkscrew hill (you can guess from the name what that's like!) light snow here, though hefty chunks. temp has been at -0.7oC exactly for an hour and a half. very steady!
  23. 2.5" here. still falling, but petering out by the looks of things.
  24. looks like 2" outside, though not as heavy now. am just off for a little trundle to decide whether or not staying at home is justified not too sure about this backbuilding- i expect that'll be slightly further north of my location. still, one should not complain about 2" of lying snow!!
