  1. Nowhere near comparable, but we have an inch lying around on untouched surfaces etc here in SE London. We have thus far had ten days (yes ten, count them!) with lying snow on the ground. Not much by NE standards, but a damn fine effort for London!! My mum in NW Kent is reporting 3-4" so will pop down there later.
  2. the radar has had light ppn over me for the last two hours, but nothing has fallen. the earlier snow is melting away under 0.6oC temps. gonna call it a night and see what transpires tomorrow...
  3. thank god most people have gone to bed. one can actually read the threads and keep up with them before they're closed! there is currently a heavy band of ppn sitting over the south downs, which looks set to head north through surrey and south west london. of more concern is that the ppn over the channel, whilst constant, is dying down in intensity. with temps/dewpoints hovering as they are just above marginla for some places, i'd worry that this may produce something of the squib variety into the next 2-6 hours for the south east.
  4. icicles closed the m40 during the cold snap just prior to christmas. they were so big that they had to be individually removed from bridges along said motorway.
  5. thought this should be one of the first posts everyone reads as we get into the business end of the nowcasting this evening. incidentally we're showing up green for accumulation, but have only mustered 15mm. the snow is turning to sleet and i can hear the horrible drip drip drip of thaw...
  6. damn straight! nothing beats sitting in the pub watching the snow- i was curled up in the local enjoying a few pints of doombar as it started to come down. now back at home the wine is on the chill ready for a few hours of radar watching. can't wait for this bloody forum to die down in an hour or so- i'm struggling to keep up! (se london, btw)
  7. current snow on m27 just a couple of miles se of s'hampton. looks like a couple of inches already.
  8. We had 21cm just around the corner from you Jimmy. I do recall watching the radar in the wee hours that mornig and seeing the heaviest ppn moving right across central London for the longest period so I wouldn't rule it out if caught early.
  9. Here's a prediction, either the water pipes will freeze or this board will crash over the next 24 hours. As a perpetual lurker I don't think I've ever seen such a frenzy. I can understand the frustration of Nick and others, and to those who want answers, I would implore you to spend a mere £3.99 and buy the radar subscription. You will need it tonight more than ever- and anyone can interpret it! As Kold keeps stating, there are so many factors to consider here. It really is quite bonkers- I gave up late last night. TEITS mentioned it around 10am on the previous thread- scrap the models and stick your head out of the window/watch the radar. This is a splendid winter and we must give it its due, even if nothing falls from the sky. I now have 2 inches of ice in my pond outside and recorded -3.6oC last night, and even the odd dusting seems to stick around for over 24 hours. If you're desperate to see snow, consult the radar, and ogle the webcams on the Beeb. For example...
  10. wouldn't worry about that, it was sopping here in se london, but in 45 mins we gained an inch. stopped now, and the melts already setting in, but great to hear the neighbours kids outside having fun! here's hoping for that pivot.... temp 0.3oC
  11. steady on! i think what's pleasing so far is that it's nearly gone exactly as predicted, within a 36h horizon. we've had the foreseen snow turning to sleet to rain and rising temps, which was what looked like happening yesterday morning. now this cold just needs to follow suit for a rather splendid wintry weekend. here is se london i'd be surprised by anything under a cm or two by friday morning, though it seems the best of it will yet again be reserved for the high ground in kent. damn the fact that i'm carless this weekend!
  12. this just get's better and better; there is now a strong chance that many areas in line south and east from the wash will see an inch of snow coming their way. and the short time horizon beefs up the confidence. i have a hunch that it'll push further inland than expected, too. hasn't the trend so far been a downgrade after the evening runs however? perhaps we should wait for that before nailing it on? been snowing here for around 15 mins, and is dusting my frozen pond in addition to flecks on the frozen earth patches, but is starting to die away. temp steady at 1.7oC
  13. very light snow here, temp 1.7oC. may this be the first of a good weekend. whoop! whoop!
  14. absoulutely essential tool. be prepared to lose sleep, however.
  15. we managed to get down to -2.7oC just before 5am here. that's the 2nd coldest night i've recorded since i moved into london in mid-2008. i'm impressed! it's now rising obviously, but slowly does it, currently -2.1oC. not mush frost around though, which is odd as it's very clear. my little fish pond has frozen over however- forgot to get the tennis ball out!!
  16. i was walking along in peckham today, and looked up and saw those beauties right above my head. my gauping encouraged others to stare skywards! they were heading NNE, so looks like they developed just as they passed over essex. great shots. ghostbusters-esque.
  17. judging by the radar, there's a heavy band moving ne through kent. i imagine there's a few cms in this...
  18. i used to live in west wickham and would head to the white bear every time it was borderline snow. twas amazing how often there'd be rain at home and lying snow up there. they serve up a cracking roast too.
  19. i wouldn't worry too much, it's about a flake every 15 seconds at the minute. lamppost watching in extremis! B)
  20. this band of light snow/sleet stretching from essex to hants through se london is sitting exactly where it is at the mo- doesn't look like moving anywhere.
