  1. Look at the snow shield in full operation north down and the peninsula. U couldn't make that up
  2. Nothing on the Down coast. Always found the model thread to be very biased towards S and SE England and if easterly didn't materialise then winter was over. Some very good, knowledgeable posters but a good lot of constant moaning and melt down central. That's why I.dont post that often even though I've been on here since 2008. Find this thread much better.
  3. East coast near Millisle no better. Few icy patches but that's it. Doesn't seem to matter what direction weather from in recent years but snow has become a greater rarity.
  4. Be glad to see the back of this tbh. Haven’t got anywhere near temps in NI in the mid twenties and no sign either. Some charts showing 20c of a difference in temp this weekend between NI and SE of England. Was a great summer until about 2 weeks ago. Since then more changeable and temps high teens / 21 at best.
  5. They’ve got very little right Re NI during this spell especially for eastern areas
  6. Finally continuous snow and still very dry snow at that. Better late than never Maybe a few cm’s out of it if we’re lucky
  7. Know the feeling watcher. The snow shield worked well.
  8. And there you have it. Only part of NI not under snowfall ?? quite impressive ??
  9. The wee snow shield has gone up again my neck of the woods. Surrounded by snow fall. Feel the pain of the south and east Antrim members. Roll on spring and hopefully a great summer
  10. The snow over Co Down I think is very slowly moving west and also north across the Lough towards County Antrim so all that have missed out should get something hopefully
  11. Yes finally got into the snow action overnight with a few cm’s right on coast and so dry and powdery as well !! Blowing a gale and -2
  12. Yes saw the national forecast and had the snow over the whole of NI Thursday night and later Fri. Here’s hoping ? Found a few wee snow grains between the slabs on the patio ? Does that count ??????
  13. It’s the same view from craigantlet to comber - southwards and westwards. Looks like a lot of snow down that neck of the woods. Yet just 20-30 miles from me ??
  14. I said a few days ago it would be practically a nowcast situation. Can’t understand why such a struggle to work out what’s due to happen fri and into weekend. As for the showers for east coast - very very disappointing !! Now for southern counties across to Fermanagh.
  15. The NW’ly Only gave a cm or two for us but it’s a cm or two more than the “Beast from the East” has produced ???
  16. It’s a bust in Bangor. Not a flake. -2 and D/P is -9. Nice and cold but bone dry. Bring back the north westerly ???
  17. Nothing here but bone dry and I’m on east coast !!
  18. I wouldn’t entirely agree Nick. I remember Scandy highs lasting weeks during my years growing up with very high central pressures. For whatever reason this time the high didn’t set up shop to maintain the deep cold flow. It retrogressed quickly and allowed the low to approach from the south. It’s a pity as it looked set for a prolonged spell but it is what is is. On East coast of NI and bone dry. Nothing special for us I’m afraid.
  19. Nope have to agree with that. Saw more snow and colder weather on a NW’ly ?
  20. Noticed the showers pepped up for west and south of NI with east dry. Ironic given it’s an easterly wind. Doesn’t quite work for the east no matter what direction it comes from ??
  21. Damp squib this. Odd grapel shower on east coast. Even if snow does come up later in week temperatures are on the rise and it will turn to rain and leave a slushy mess. After that both GFS and ECM showing uppers just below 0 850’s so would almost rather spring was just around the corner. But on the whole colder winter than recent years.
  22. I think a lot of people struggle to trust the forecasts as it is. Even in this day with all the super computers etc on many ocassions we can’t forecast beyond 5 days with any accuracy. It’s quite something how such a strong block of very cold air is mixed out so easily within a very short space of time. My point is it’s not as severe as portrayed ie the beast from the east. Yes we will see a day or two of near freezing or slightly below 2m temps. If that was sustained for a few weeks then yes it would be a beast from the east as we used to know them. the block needed to be sustained over Scandy for any prolonged deep cold spell. As it stands the block shifted too far west and although left with higher heights to our N and NE they aren’t strong enough to prevent the lower heights making inroads and therefore taking the sting rapidly out of the deep cold. This is well shown in the London ensembles as an example that goes from -15 850’s to -1 850’s in 24 - 30hrs !! Even in NI by the weekend the 850’s sit at -5 / -6.
