  1. hello Doncaster and area round it started with storm about 1750, now 1850 and still moderate rain here(se of doncaster) with thunder now distant to ne jh
  2. hello No storm here, just a heavy rain shower about 30-45 mins ago, along with marked wind veer(to north of west) and sharp temperature drop from around 20C to just 14.5C. jh
  3. Hi Paul I've not had anything that low here since 1997; Finningley figs give 3.2C on the morning of 12 July 1971 which also had the only ground frost in July in this area. There are around 10 occasions with a temperature below 6C at Finningley in July. Not sure that is any help to you. You might try any RAF station nearer to you than here, maybe Watnall? regards jh
  4. hello with stats for cantley, doncaster for june abs max = 30.2C(to be confirmed when COL figs for this area come out), 8th june abs min = 5.6C night of 21st mean = 16.4C, which is 2.0C above long term average rain fell on 20 days, average = 13. so above average temperatures and likewise for rainfall days. jh
  5. hello Not about today but the 'orrible day on Wednesday. Just checked my records and the max that day in my back garden was just 12.0C I've been recording temps since 1997 and its the lowest I have had. Looking at the records for Finningley, just a few miles away, their records go from 1942 to 1995; the lowest ever was 11.7C in July 1948, with 12.1C in July 1981. In 1948 the highest later that month was 31.1C on two days, so maybe we can live in hope! jh
  6. hello well what a rotten day; windy, wet most of the time, and v cold. max temp struggled to a massive 12.0C, making it the coldest day since 5th may. if summer is listening, PLEASE come back! jh
  7. hi http://www.metcheck.com/willitrain/willitr...D=305&lat=&lon= from metcheck the latest which shows a bright cell to the north west. a case of wait and see/hear timed at 1634 jh
  8. hi UKV I'm about 3 miles se of Doncaster and its quite dark to the NW, no lightning seen yet or heard any thunder. jh
  9. hi Frank you ask where the lady in lincs is, RIXXXgolf; well it says Grimsby, so I guess you cannot get much more specific than that! jh
  10. hello well, reached 30.2C, with lots of Ac Cas this morning and a few spots of rain, then back to patchy small Cu and Ci. overcast and muggy now with a bit of a breeze from the NE. jh
  11. hello well moving my thermometer seems to have had some effect. the max today is 26.4C, which seems in line with reports in eastern england. half cloud cover at times, small Cu, some lareger bits, nothing significant.sticky now at 20.8C jh
  12. hi PT thanks for the info. its about 3.5 feet off the ground, sheltered by trees. Yep i'm still 'going' to get an asw but probably a Davis. got as far as concreting a post in the ground!! still trying to figure out how to get the anemo well above the top of the post but easily accessible! also still trying to unravel a web site. i'll get there eventually. in the meantime i'm moving the thermometers to another position to check. have to agree to have a screen makes a lot of difference, but never had problems before. it may be that next door chopping a large part of a leylandi scree down has caused the problem! jh
  13. hi to yl i'll have to wait for the max values at the end of the month from two observing sites close by accepted by the met office. it does seem a touch high but the thermometer is in a well sheltered spot, not in a sceen mind you. it was calibrated alongside the values from finningley when that was open and was never more than 0.5C different. again i'll have to wait until finningley, or robin hood, doncaster, sheffield international airport opens for business next easert! not my name but peel holdings who own the airfield. jh
  14. hello Well it got to 28.9C here in south Doncaster; the warmest day since 6th August last year, and the 3rd warmest day in over 2 years. Maybe summer is here. It was certainly on the sticky side walking in the Hope/Castleton area of Derbyshire today. Even got a few spots of rain as the walk finished but nothing here, mainly blue skies with just bits of Cumulus and Altocumulus Castellanus. jh
  15. sunny donny in May? average max=18.7C(16.2C) average min = 7.8C(6.4C) mean = 13.2C(11.0C) days with rain =11(13) just 1 ground frost(5) no days with fog and just 1 day with thunder(2) so, as for most of country=above average temperature and below average rain; the warmest day was 16th with 26.1C figures in brackets are the long term averages for this area. jh
  16. hi ref TWS comments about Durham figures. I'm not sure of site locations, but Durham University is near the town centre, so its quite likely the figures from them will be higher than a rural area? jh
  17. hello the first rain in 11 days fell yesterday evening and overnight. a fair bit of smallish cumulus about this morning. still managed 21C yesterday but bit cooler today i suspect. jh
  18. from sunny donny again hi there well the third day over 25C, 25.2C today. Apart from some fair weather cu this morning much of the time its been blue sky, with a pleasant breeze to stop you overheating. jh
  19. another sunny donny day well not quite yesterday's max, still it reached 25.6C, and its around 22C at the moment in little wind and clear skies. jh
  20. hi from sunny donny well reached 26.1C the highest thisyear and the highest since early September last year. looks a reasonable week on all the forecasts but I notice that by Friday the max temps really take a dive. jh
  21. hello from sunny donny yep its really living up to its nickname, not a cloud in the sky, no wind, temp is 17.1C. I'm off hiking in the Peak District, so I shall need the pint when I get to the pub! Yesterday it got to 23.5C, making it the second warmest day this year. jh
  22. Hello Well it was 'sunny donny', a lovely morning and early afternoon with a max of 19.5C, now its 15C and cloudy. I guess, looking at the 1200 baratic from the Met Office, that this is the cloud from the front in the North Sea. Goodbye sun for the weekend, here at any rate! jh
  23. hi again Paul just noticed previous comments by you. Copley is one of their sites, i presume you have their data, if not let me know and i'll pass it on jh
  24. Hi Paul yet another souce of weather is that from COL(Climatological Observers Link), web site for person running it, Roger Brugge is www.met.rdg.ac.uk they have a site at Westgate in Weardale. Not sure how far that is from you, height asl335m. data for March gave mean mx=7.7c; mean mn=0.9; mean=4.3c(+0.5) hope that is some help. jh
  25. Hi Hope its ok to start a new thread. April 2004 in this area may be the one of the warmest ever recorded. The mean temperature was 10.6C which, so far as I can tell, has only been beaten once, way back in 1943 with 11.2C. Other figures are avge Max=15.3C, avge Min=6.0C days with rain=16(average=14) days with snow=1(average=2 falling and 1 lying) days with air frost=1(average=4) days with ground frost=2(average=11) anyone else had much higher temps than usual? jh
