  1. yes sorry if I missinterpreted earlier posts.. I was just asking where to look for my region since it has changed over the weeks.. I live in Herts. No harm meant. Are you suggesting a Herts thread or merely a SE, or Greater London, subjective (where is it exactly?) just wanted to know which thread I should look out for... no worries I'll just find one where "most" seem to get a grip.
  2. ...what a bit like the met office map? Herts, Beds, Bucks, Essex, Iran, Oxfordshire, Sussex and Kentsnowshire... please explain... so as not to have to trawl all the posts
  3. made me laugh so much it hurt - thank you thought he'd choose to go to Kent tho
  4. "knowing when the models are right or wrong" is why I'm here. Merely cutting and pasting a 'chosen' model graphic and saying "wow" doesn't do it for me - I want opinions based on experience and 'instinct' TEITS et al - whether your opinions are right or wrong, I appreciate all your un-biased observation and instinct.. and when you and other experienced members get it wrong, who cares except you ! I'm confident that you are learning about the weather as much as anyone else here who puts their neck on the line. No one really knows for sure and that's why we're all here and watching mother nature do her stuff, cold, stormy, heatwave or fog ! analogy: If playing golf was easy, no-one would play it. Weather forecasting looks easy but isn't - unless you live in California - where the golf is still a hard game  Model output discussion - that's what it says on the tin. Sorry mods but I really hate all this 'you're right' - 'you're wrong' banter. Stay away unless there's something intelligent and constructive to say here. That's my 2 penneth
  5. I had to look twice just now... about 1 percent of the precip here is falling as snow. temp at +1.5 c Very slow melt, very messy out there - postie not happy today.
  6. Iceni, Hugago and Oon thank you all for the info - brilliant forum this  Looks like it's breaking up and losing intensity now, tho there's something larger behind.. I'm no model analytic but I thought fog formed in still air (the forecast for my area) which is why I was following this - secretly looking for surprises! I guess upper air can be quite fast moving yet at ground level it's barely noticed.
  7. Any chance someone can tell whether it's rain, sleet or snow falling from this little development over France.. a link to a site with details would be greatly appreciated http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-3&soort=satradar Cheers
  8. been watching this on and off for a few hours... http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-3&soort=satradar seems to be another front developing as it moves up over the coast of France... prob nothing and prob too warm for snow but who knows:unsure:
  9. And for a visual representation....better than watching lamposts INMHO (in my humble opinion) http://www.met.fu-be...video/bmbf2.mpg BANG! - just a joy to watch - nature Weather pro's sure have their heads and hands full Cheers Halling Weather:)
  10. better than watching lamposts INMHO (in my humble opinion) http://www.met.fu-berlin.de/terra3d/video/bmbf2.mpg BANG! - just a joy to watch - nature Weather pro's sure have their heads and hands full
  11. I could watch that video for days.. brilliant - post it on the three counties thread I'm sure it'll be welcome there too. Have bookmarked your site now.. full of useful information - excellent. Will be in touch when my La crosse 2350 arives
  12. OMG I just saw a red pixel go past my window... no really, it missed the lampost by at least 20cm
  13. slb97, on 09 January 2010 - 22:43 , said: I absolutely love the optimism - keep it up!!! It's much better than getting too downbeat. When things go milder/summer comes we can get excited about thunderstorms! I can't decide which I like most, snow or thunder - both on a par with each other I think!! me too with the optimism. Trying to predict where snow will fall is quite like predicting thunderstorms in the summer... very subjective - and lets face it a learning experience every hour on here. I guess that's why we're all here... enjoying the un predictability Mines a pint half full of guiness everytime - topped with 2 cm of the white stuff.. Sunday monday In Topic: South Central England Cold Spell Discussion: Posted 9 Jan 2010 no quotes, no one liner's... this set up seems very different... I take back most I mentioned earlier.. The Atlantic (west) is trying to move in.. the Siberian east is fighting plus there's a southerly push too.. Cold sits at the bottom of a fridge (yes!) so the warm moves over ... snow falling throughout - watch the wind and trends. It's anyone's guess for the next few days but my feelings are that the forecasters are having a nightmare. enjoy !

  16. bet taken... any others? http://pages.unibas....m22/00PCP03.htm the low rising up (south to north) through Germany on this animation slings a big snowball over the southern uk late Sunday into Monday.. the site's sometime's a little off but I favour it more than the 'Sky' sensationalist forecasts of late enjoy 50p bet 3 counties et al and all will get a nice dusting..

  18. I've kept this useful site open in another window on my desktop for a few hours http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ very interesting to watch developments.. the westerly component of the front aproaching is definitely there, building up showers over the channel. Despite posters being amazed the wind is from the NE, the upper front formed by the movement north of a massive low centrered over northern Italy has has the westerly component as it rotates anticlockwise.. Snow in the east is here to stay for a while yet with maybe a brief rest bite before another band moves in from our friends east of us in the near continent. Looks like it may snow IMBY in 3 hours
  19. yay bring in Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk too since that's where our weather is born - till the wind changes... and then it'll just be rain sent from Kent:)
  20. More reading... you're not wrong there..! folk in Norfolk, suffolk, Essex, Herts Beds Bucks and North London.... maybe it's just easier to have just one forum for KENT and another for the rest of the world ....only untill the wind changes... which could be some time:cold: just started snowing big slowly floating flakes here in Welwyn Herts, hardly any wind and very pretty fall past my lampost. minus 2.5 degrees too
  21. seems like a good idea: herts beds bucks.. Looking at raintoday.co.uk there's snow coming again for us for an hour or so.. And then looking out to the north sea/channel there's some brewing for later as the cold moves south toward the warm coming up from south, France etc - near continents I heard it called (-: Just started readybrek snow here last 10minutes
  22. You might try the park in Hendon NW4, great slope. Used to go there when smaller. One of the entrances is off Greyhound hill. I'm not local to there now, maybe someone on here will confirm if the snow is good.. Have fun
  23. oh blimey... that's such very good information from you all regarding polar lows this time of night:drinks: wish you'd all been around when there were the one liners (inc me) about how big the snow flakes were earlier this afternoon (-: Will catch up on your valuable tech and knowledge t'morrow, my typing fingers are numb and the quilt has frost developing!
