  1. Hi MK.. if you happen to be passing by the MOD thread and see something positive... paste it in here would you LOL Enjoy the dandruff (-:
  2. Not sure of the science of cloud formation to produce snow/rain but looking out east into the channel/north sea - clear air leaves europe and clouds are starting to develop approaching our shores from the east.. maybe some showers drifting in today? Would love to know the details of what to look for regarding temps and dew points etc so as to hazard a guess as to what maybe coming our way in the very short term. in the meantime its fun to watch in breaks from work (-:
  3. I like this idea in principle Backtrack but to name the "best posters" publicly could be an issue.. Esp as there are quite a few others that make valid comments on the MOD. It's an excellent thread for that reason. Solution: The 'manage ignore preferences' is a godsend - you simply mark off the posters arguing, sniping or whatever gets your goat and the thread becomes easier to read.. Occasionally you'll see someone reacting to a post from someone you've 'ignored' in the form of quote and that can be quite useful - if it isn't then just ignore them too (-: It takes about 20 mins to select and filter (cull) out the folk you don't want to read - personally I've found best time to do this is around the time the 06z gfs comes out
  4. and a few more popping up on the radar right now - very light but it is something (-:
  5. so there it is in black and white folks.. LOL I think however it may be a more accurate comment to say summer's over
  6. I may well be wrong but I set mine to 'relavent' after entering in the hight above sea level we live at - open to correction though (-: edit: just found this as I was curious: Setting Relative Pressure on the WH-1081 To get accurate pressure readings, you need to ensure that your weather station has a relative pressure set - this is used to calculate the actual air pressure at your altitude. To set a relative air pressure value, look for the pressure reading from a local weather station. ...so it all depends on your region/location to be able monitor the weather pressure - (see mods I managed to get the important words in there..) have the MOD (model output disruption) board convinced everyone winters over yet? I daren't look (-; tho seems quite nippy out... chuckle chuckle
  7. lamp post and radar watching tonight then: (-; edit: and there was some talk on the MOD last night (model output discussion etc) of 'mesoscale snowfall' possible during our cold period - apparently it can't be predicted on the models but shows up nice out of nowhere on the radar. Google it - it's quite interesting if you like surprises like me.
  8. can you get me a T99 - don't mind which model as long as it's cold (-:
  9. just found this for anyone who likes pretty things (-: the links in my signature are worth bookmarking too - enjoy. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/eumet/neatl/flash-wv.html
  10. Good to have our IMBY thread back I'm hoping for atleast 1024 pixels of snow to appear very soon on the radar - might even get some in real life too presently watching the 'east meets west' (warm bashes into cold) with interest as the dividing line between snow, rain or nothing seems to be changing with each run over the next few days... and as for FI (fantasy Island) well.... here's a nice one I saved last night: probably gone by now All good fun
  11. Quote from the model thread: Steve Murr, on 27 January 2012 - 09:41 , said: http://www.knmi.nl/e...agse/index.html ECM long ensembles- Best in terms of temps since the dawn of the internet- 1 early GFS sympathy run thrown in there near the start... -20C scale was indeed used... S stewfox response: "Sometimes you come across as a a great councillor helping the addicts understand the problems they face with their addictions , its trends , minor changes in the macro can have major changes in the micro. Keep it simple the road to recovery of proper winter weather can't be rushed. Then its like someone offering whisky to an Alcoholic all these belting charts out in F1 isn't that just cruel for the addict who wants cold and snow. I was getting use to keeping it in the day or within T72 as they say to new members ?. T72 it works if you work it keep coming back. Us additcs feed on these FI charts what happens if they don't come off , I can see the pain of withdrawal now." Pixel: I saw this in the model thread (above) whilst typing an epitaph for my self regarding being an addict here on NW… in fact I will… 'T72 wasn't enough' I've lost hours.. no sorry days, in here being fed with various imaginings of impending snowmageddon, downgrades, this chart shows at T240.. we're doomed etc and have come to the conclusion that I would like my IP address blocked from this site to stop me ever being fed anymore information - it's a blxxdy drug and I'm addicted. T72 is where I'm hoping addiction ends, but the occasional nip into FI (anything more than 3 days away) for a fix will inevitably end in tears. YES, too much information is a bad thing - always with all things - better to take in moderation Bring back the magnetic clouds!! My IP address is: 365.365.365.365 (-:
  12. 5 days ago FI was +144 ish... based on the observations illustrated above - 24th Jan could look something like these: but I like surprises
  13. 2 lows low develop near Iceland 17-18 jan teaser!..+100hrs maybe a little 'action' in Scotland http://www.meteociel...&mode=0&carte=1 Both lows form a bigger one a little further s/e 21-22nd Jan and it's a second bite of the veritable cherry (-: Jet kinks south http://www.meteociel...&mode=5&carte=1 could get this: ...snow melts/rains game over for another week obviously joking !!
  14. Personally I am very interested in the developments around 7 days from now as I have a wedding to photograph on the 21st. I have been keeping an eye on the 19th of Jan for quite a while. It would seem to my eyes that during the time of 19-20th Jan there has been an issue with most of the models having agreement for quite some time - I guess anything more than 144hrs away is always difficult but the scatter of scenarios has been interesting to say the least (-: I'm just a lurker here most of the time but am interested and curious about medium term changes (pattern changes?) is it possible that only after the 19-20th we'll see clearer answers to where our weather is going into Feb?
  15. I've been interested in the differences between the GFS 6z and the 12z Jet and z500 model forecasts over the last 7 days for a randomly chosen date of the 19th January and have laid out the their projections below: ...also done this with the stratos, precip (must be bonkers!) and the 850 temps too but wont bore you with those (-: I just wanted to see where Fantacy Island (FI) was located! - The projections for the 19th seem to be narrowing down a bit - but as you can see they were all over the shop early on. Is Fantacy island located around 150 hrs away or is it more like 72 hrs! Of course a lot more finer detail will evolve between now and the 19th so I'll be lurking here a while longer to learn more. Big question tho… should I now follow the GFS or UKMO for the detail on the 19th - daddy or chips? :lol: or the ECM maybe?.. oh I just can't decide
  16. maybe most do care? - but no-one's counting? 2 of us so far (-;
  17. yes that's the least of our planet problems.. maybe the clock should go back a few minutes to give everyone some time to think about what they do to each other and the consequences of their actions
  18. I've been a member on this forum many years and yet I can't easily find a comprehensive list of acronyms and abbreviations to translate some of the terms used by more seasoned posters on here. I found this (below) but it's deeply down in the archives http://forum.netweat...-abbreviations/ a little googling found these: http://www.srh.noaa....rx/glossary.php http://www.srh.noaa..../acronyms_a.htm I wander if it would be possible to have a 'pinned' topic in the help area to enable any new visitors (or those like myself who need a little refreshing) to view a concise list of weather terms / Acronyms and abbreviations with maybe a single line to explain ? Maybe even (dare I suggest) a quick link at the head of the model discussion thread I'd start a list but haven't clue what I am talking about ! - still learning, enthusiastically (-; Mods please feel free to delete this if indeed there is a more recent thread on this subject out there
  19. just send em a few of the FI (fantasy Island) models projections, that should get them going.. go on dare you expect to see Snowmageddon headlines soon (-:
  20. I can't wait to see what the gfs does with the jet on the 06 run - it seems to have had a stab at most things from 5-6 days out its a bit like an enthusiastic teenager coming up with all sorts of ideas only to be told to calm down by the likes of the more 'grown up' UKMO who only speaks twice a day many more twists and turns to come I'm sure but it certainly is more exciting than this time last week - I'm loving the ups and downs - quite mad
  21. this appeared in my drive a while back - he's had kids since, just haven't seen them lately maybe end of Jan early Feb? ps - It's a thumb not a finger
  22. well I didn't want to get too excited (-; those charts do look like the right colour tho - looking forward to seeing things progress (model wise) toward a wintery theme in the next few days for sure - the plants in our garden think it's spring right now
  23. I got a little disparing (desperate) just now so trecked off into lala land and found hope in FI (fantasy Island) I daren't put this pretty pic in the model thread Eye Candy for 11days away - 17th Jan I'm hoping it comes later as it's my Birthday on the 19th and I seem remember it used to snow around then.... all those long lost years ago what-ever.. (-:
  24. thanks Chio.. I hadn't fully apreciated this was such a vast subject I've found a few images that help me on the road to learning and of course your original post which I confess to have completely overlooked :blush: Great info in there. Keep up the good work. http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/71340-stratosphere-temperature-watch-20112012/ Would be nice to view an animated graphic of temperature changes over time - if one exists? If its ok.. I've pasted 2 links below I just bookmarked on my quest - maybe useful for anyone else trying to learn ATMOSPHERIC CIRCULATION; WEATHER SYSTEMS: http://rst.gsfc.nasa.gov/Sect14/Sect14_1c.html and a little more discussion here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056438481
  25. with a deep breath and some trepidation I am going to ask for some help here on this subject.. I've been reading this thread for some time and although fascinating I find it hard to visualise the relationship between the levels (layers) in the atmosphere, the relationship between them and possible effects of change in temperatures and also wave events. Especially the difference or transition between summer months and winter months activity. Can anyone point me in the direction of a place on the web where there is a diagram of sorts that explains what is being talked about here so I can 'link' in my head the 2 dimensional graphs and 'top view' down maps often posted here, or If anyone has the time to illustrate it here I would very grateful... Maybe I'm asking too much? ...this subject seems very complicated to me. humbly learning (-;
