  1. perfect timing James - the white stuff is falling nicely now - steady light small flakes and it's settling
  2. well a slight temp rise here - but still -1.5oC. It really will have to be a very steep rise to get the leading edge to fall as rain. SO far this afternoon, had a fair run of light showers and flurries, but no sign of any sleet lets see what happens in a couple of hours (fingers crossed)
  3. bloody hell - any other year I would have bitten someones hand off being offered a 40% chance of snow this close to xmas - but it's dropped from yesterday, so it's a tad deflating
  4. Complete low cloud cover now, and showing is falling at a very steady rate - atm is fine and granular, but as you'ld expect, in these conditions it's all settling nicely away from the main roads scrub that report - it's now belting down with nice medium size flakes about the 5mm size - looking better all the time
  5. not so much a ruler needed here as a micrometer lol - still only 15mm, but fingers crossed for the next 36 hours
  6. well there appears to be a lot of doom and gloom this morning and I'm not entirely sure why as it's still -2oC, there are the beginnings of some cloud cover over the moors and certainly the forecast for here is a slight upgrade over the next 48-60 hours rather than the downgrades being bandied about chins up and lets see what comes
  7. And a bloody good morning to you all Yes Rochdale has a festive feel to it with more snow overnight - not much - we are in the region of about 2cm but that is better than nothing. Roll on the next few days
  8. just returned from a trip over the tops to yorkshire and there is plenty of snow around  Although the eastern side has a fair covering, once you get to Saddleworth and down towards Rochdale the flurries are now turning into decent bursts of prolonged heavier snowfalls, and there is a strong wind driving it all too. A few days of this and the area with look very festive indeed
  9. oooppps my bad - too much excitement with all this snow falling Being serious now - steady falls in Rochdale atm, and settling nicely on pavements and roads.
  10. raaaaaaaaaaaaaammmp ! ! ! this is just the beginning - I tell what, those seasoned rampers really are not doing their job keeping this thead going
  11. have to say, look at the models it seems to be an all or nothing senario lolol - so it's either hawaiian shirts and shorts or long johns and salopettes - think tomorrows 7 day forecast should be interesting
  12. First noticeable snow shower as around 4pm - enough to cover the pavements, cars and roads away from main routes. Surprisingly, the snow has settled and is still here now . We've had a few more quick blasts over the last hour, but nothing appreciable. Have to nip over the pennines later, so will post conditions up on the tops. Did notice that snow was already settling up there at 3pm, whlist it was clear down here Here's to plenty more
  13. Moderate snow shower in Rochdale at 4pm - lasted 15mins. Interestingly, considering how I questioned whether the temp would plummit (as I did yesterday) - it's dropped enough for the snow to stick and is still on pavements now
  14. heavy snow flurry/light shower here at the mo - nice largish flakes up to 1cm across - but no chance of settling due to damp ground
  15. Hmmmm, seems to be a bit of a dichotomy between the forecasts and what we are expereincing atm. Like a lot of ppl - I am excited by the short term forecasts - it's just rather unbelievable given the damp, cloudy and cool weather we've been experiencing the last few days. If we are going to get anything like the models lead us to beleive, the temp is going to have to fall through the floor pdq. Hmmm might have to dig out that well worn copy of "Day after Tomorrow" to remind myself of rapid temperature drops
  16. have to say - I'm quite happy with a 40% chance - still better than I've seen at this time in a long time
  17. guilty as charged - I am a not so secret lamppost watcher - as you may have guessed from my handle. The only met events that ever really spark my interest are cold related and have been since I was a small child. Maybe it's the uncertainty, the infrequency and the effect - but even now, when I live in the shadow of the Pennines - I have to admit I still get a smile at every frost and a real thrill when the possibility of the white stuff is mentioned. Like many - I've sat up the last few years when significant snow effects occur, either watching the lamppost if it is near, of reading the posts as then come in through NW gosh! I sound all soppy there - quick - bah humbug! lol
  18. all I can say atm is thaty it's the nicest set of runs I've seen in the run up Christmas in a long time - it's nice to be have a realistic change of snow so (relatively) close, rather than the usual straw clutching and hang wrining at this time of year
  19. have to say, having used NW and BBC the last 3 years - NW seems to have a far more reliable snow forecast for here than the Beeb :(
