  1. well I enjoyed the January one with its ups and downs and whilst I would love to have a nice cold Feb, I'm plumping for 4.3oC
  2. mild, damp start to the day - but what a change . 2pm, the fog rolled in, temp droppped to 3oC and visibilty is 50m
  3. steve - great idea, even if you've just made me feel a lot older ) to take it onto wmv, tell us the details of the kit you've got, I'm sure I've got details of some VCR to PC kit
  4. cool and still, about 1oC, just enough to let some of the snow from yesteryday stick around
  5. have to say, that although things aren't perfect, the snow lovers are still waiting for the big event and the cold lovers cast their minds back to that oh so distant spell in December, for the first time in many years, it really feels to me like a proper winter and to justify that, I mean we have had several wintry speels, a nice cold snap and the general feeling that any mild blast from the Atlanic, with the mild and wet weeks always have been accompanied by the uncertainty that it would not be with us long the most interesting winter I can remember in a very long while
  6. plenty of wet snow in Rochdale. Started at 2pm - and had a wonderful virtual white out - visibililty down to 50m. Now been falling steadily for the past hour
  7. Temp has dropped 2o in the last hour and the wind has picked up, with some light cold rain I guess this when the model watching stops and the nowcasting begins
  8. think we need the ramp factor index RFI = (number of model thread watchers x days away from FI) / number of posts reminding people to be realistic
  9. thanks Steve - it's nioce to see some of those nice titbits of information
  10. cool, damp (clearly a few light showers overnight) as my mother would say "quiet weather" - the calm before the storm?
  11. if the atlanic jet can just shift a few degrees further south, my 3.3 is starting to look like a possibility
  12. finally got round to opening the curtains and found a very heavy widespread frost and grey skies - estimating about -3oC last night
  13. just woken up to a very pleasant surprise - 3cm of snow in Rochdale
  14. The two weird parts of this cold snap for me have been the very rare sighting of frost these last few days - I have enjoyed reading the potentials reasons for this, but still having sub zeroes and no frost is most unusual for me The other one is finding the fresh snow being compacted, partically melting and then forming these small streams of ice in a matter of a few hours
  15. very weird day today  The few mm of snow slowly melted around midday and quickly refrose to form running rivers of ice - looks wonderful but trecherous. Temperature is dropping through the floor now under clear skies - well below freezing
  16. well I used to have a Honda S2000 - which was a wonderful.........................until 3 or more flakes of snow landed in which case the only 2 things it could do were either travel ONLY in a straight line, or merely slide rond and round in circles  Nowadays, I have a battered old Freelander that performed wonderfully when we had the sudden snow dump - 3-4" of snow on ice and it ploughed through up and down hill and dale with not a problem
  17. light snow started about 10pm and has continued sporadically through the night - currently about 5mm covering
  18. very similar conditions to StormA ..not surprisingly , though we are more sheltered so the wind is much lower. Heavy frost on cars (started forming at 6pm yesterday). Very light ground frost too...let's hope this is the start of an extended cooling period
  19. ohhhh hell - never had the wit or wisdom to try this one - so I shall stick my neck out at 3.3oC ...though I guess like a lot of people, hoping for lower
  20. very cold here - -4oC and the compacted snow and slush have refrozen on all the back roads - think getting into work is going to be tricky
