  1. TBH Kold, far too mild and damp on the western pennines at the moment - think we'll need to wait at least24-36 hours to see the temperatures down to anywhere "interesting"
  2. well I've never been a ramper (bar the occasional over enthusiasm lol) but I have to say, I'm mightily chuffeed over seeeing such a relatively prolonged bought of cold so early in the season and certainly the prospect of a touch of the white stuff has made me almost festive.
  3. lets hope they are better meterologists than they are gamblers
  4. And now, after that early wake up call from Scotland last month, I see that the temperatures are dropping, the continent is cooling, the ramping thread has been posted and in hallowed corners, there are whispers of "The Beast From the East" ohhhh yes, I'm back- certainly loons like snow is on it's way and will give many parts a little early festive feel. Also nice to see the xmas day forecast at least dealing with possiblilities lololol darling - Iiiiii'm home :
  5. I always knew the forecast team had insider knowledge bet they are all at the bookies laying bets now
  6. 30 % I'll take those odds, though it's a little deflating when you realise it''s 30% chance of snow anywhere north
  7. very light snow here, and very small flakes rather than granular. Has been snwoing on and off since about 2:30. Quite weird watching and thinking "is that all - usually get far more"
  8. okies - I'm changing it to very localised lololol - not a flake here
  9. this is weird - shows the localisation - snow to the east and west - and nothing here
  10. rather a strange day - and I think it underlines the importance of timing where snow events are concerned. The Monday snow fall was over by midnight - gave the gritters more than enough time to clear the roads. Today saw a long spell of light, mainly granular snow from 8am til 1pm - enough to accumulate, but on busy roads, never settled. Elsewhere has seen similar falls, but it's the key 12-6am time that determines the chaos
  11. okay - scrub my last post - it's snowing fine grains atm <_<
  12. just to show just how localised it is - no snow at all here
  13. well the latest model output has just put the mockers on any notion of an event on Thurs/Fri
  14. well I braved the icey roads to get to work lol, but in honsesty all the main routes around here have been kept clear, though the side road have been treacherous. Have been treated to a lovely clear day witha wonderful view of the Moors all white and calm - truly beautiful, Temperature is now dropping fast and I'm sure there will be an awful lot of icey patches tomorrow. Looking back on last nights events, I feel sure me must have had a "mild" patch of air, then a drop in temp - there was noticable deperectiation in the snow level snow this morning, but virtually no standing water Hey ho, 3rd snow day this winter - can't grumble at that ...oh and I'm off to the model thread to see what Thursday night/Friday morning brings
  15. friad we've had the big fat flakes, granular, every bloody size today - a snow specialist would have loved the range that came out of the skie today
  16. I almost feel like I'm in the wrong area - has been now snowing more or less continuously for 3 hours on top of the rest of the days fall. The snow is very granular atm, but it just keeps coming down. The undisturbed patches are up to 5" atm
  17. well it's been snowing hard for the last 2 hours and now the main roads are turning white and cars are going all over the show> I wonders if the gritting teams were told tonight was not going to be as bad
  18. please don;t shout at the messanger guys - just letting you know what it's like here
  19. thought as much, though can't ever remember a presenter even hinting those figures and strangely enough, hammering it down here too
  20. I know that this really isn't quite the right region - but once I recovered from the shock of a BBC1 weather presenter predicting 50cm for parts of the pennines, where on Earth can they mean?
  21. well it's been sub zero here all day - the only place the snow has melted has been on treated roads. Very heavy falls, strong wind, big flakes. A few hours of this and the fact the sidestreets have now had all the sonw compacted to ice is going to make tomorrow a very interesting day indeed.
  22. well just walked in for the school run and I think the first band has hit us - very dark, very heavy falls
  23. approximately what time are we expecting this organised band to hit the NW?
