Wow wow wow.
Just saw the local and national forecast and no mention of snow in the forecast next week for us at all!, And, they also mentioned warming up by next weekend.
Had to laugh really I watched BBC forecast friday or saturday and south and south west was going to be the snowy battleground and I stupidly let myself fall for the hope, now it is a midlands north event as always.

Needs to be exceptionaly cold to offset suns strengh now .
I can't see much snow settling away from hills in west country next week just too late into the year.

Well I just happened to be driving through my old village this morning at the exact time the snow arrived.

Yeah I concur. Over on twitter Fergie saying alot will be soaked up by the welsh hills. For those in devon and cornwall if you get under a shower it will be decent but many will go without. Tough to forecast and hard on the warnings, 10% of the pop might get effected and be worthy of the warning with the other 90% wondering what the fuss is about
Yes we have seen too many winters to know the outcome of tonight, even when living on hills it was a will it make it past wales event every time this sort of setup occured. Almost need more of a westerly north westwerly element to bring these showers down bristol chanel more but then it imports risk of it just being sleet for most of us without exceptionaly low 850's.
We never know though maybe some will pep up once they get past wales with some presently un-forecasted convergence zone setting up. One can dream.

Seriously?! This will surely be a non event?! What’s occurring?
I rekon eastward extent over exagerated to cover backside and it will be hit and miss showers running across west of region while welch hills suck up the rest on the eastern flank of warning.
I am in wells tomoro helping uncle move into house so ill see if any has fallen at least.

Snow warning area 20 miles to my west
On closer inspection it is about 10 miles

Met office text under forecast says bands of snow maybe moving east tonight but I just cannot see it?
Tonight:
A mostly dry evening, but wintry showers in Cornwall with these moving east overnight. Longer periods of sleet and snow may develop in places, perhaps giving some slight accumulations. Cold. Minimum temperature -2 °C.
Tuesday:
Wintry showers or longer spells of rain, sleet and snow clearing during the morning. Turning drier and brighter by the afternoon. Feeling cold, especially in the breeze. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Look at the radar, the angle of approach, the pivoting motion. Imagine if it were about 4c colder!
Looks a little further north than expected too?

It seems to be going a bit more NE than predicted - but click on the precip type and it’s literally all rain.. oh well. Maybe next time.
(Edit - was hoping to see a little sleet somewhere!)
All rain for now but as it pivots and interacts with cold air in night it may change.

Time for change but looks like only a few will see snow this week if lucky.

Afternoon all, it got to the dizzying height of -1c here today so another ice day. It's a winter wonderland on top of the Mendips, everything's coated in a thick layer of frost and it's been like it for days now, it looks stunning, albeit a rather gloomy grey sky.
After spending the day virtually stationary in an unheated, stately home sized greenhouse (making xmas garlands) I'd be more than happy to fast forward to spring. I know that's heresay but so blinking cold with nothing to show for it, doesn't float my boat. A foot of snow please so I can stay home in the warm, or clear off cold, give me spring warmth.
If you head over towards your old house and east mendip area they got a decent covering of snow too which looks as fresh as day it fell, looks stunning.
All melted in bradford bar a couple of frozen bits on grass.

Now got snow showing (on phone weather app) for 10 and 11pm this eve.
Mine shows the same thing but I think it is just radar noise floating around up here I certainly not seen a flake so far.

If you play the radar animation you can see the mild air bumping up against the immovable block no wonder it’s impossible to predict what it’s going to do.
Impossible.... I beg to differ I shall predict it goes to the south of both of us and we get nothing.
playing radar back and forth to me it looks like it is in forecasted place with just a lot of radar noise getting our hopes up.

Interesting really to see how the warmer air interacts with our current cold airmass in terms of inroads or skirting along the channel. Feels like a nowcasting sort of 24 hours coming up.
You look very well positioned fk. Your right I have seen these forecasts go very wrong just few hours out and end up in south wales so I just hope we see a few flurries break through into wilts just maybe

Warning still needs to translate into an actual snow event... 1 to 2 cm hardly enough for snow day though?!
