  1. No such luck over this side of the county, not raining at the moment but the ground is wet from an earlier shower and looking at the radar it should be coming down again now.
  2. Just talking to daughter on FaceTime and she jumped as the loudest crack of thunder and brightest flash of lightening hit where she lives. the storm has reached Sowerby Bridge and is still going on.
  3. Sorry but I only saw your post after I’d down mine otherwise I’d have responded to yours. Still rumbling away and probably as much T&L as we’ve had in a single storm all year.
  4. Decent storm here at the moments, a few flashes of lightening, plenty of thunder and rain/hail battering against the windows.
  5. Lessons will be learned with the first and second ones being not to use fire coloured tarpaulin and then make sure it can’t flap about in the wind thankfully no one was hurt and the long ladder can be returned to the even longer shed.
  6. Dry and a bit brighter here now but no doubt we’re between showers and it won’t be long before they’re back again.
  7. Aye BBC website are calling it a small Tornado. not very small for the poor folk who now have seriously damaged homes and property and why did they need to put speech comma’s on Tornado unless it’s the politically correct written way of putting that bloody annoying so called in front of everything they’re not sure about. back to today and what happened to a drier and brighter day Wall to wall cloud since daybreak here and heavy and at times torrential rain for the last couple of hours thankfully it’s a day for inside jobs.
  8. Aye without that dryish spring we’d have been up there with the wettest years on record
  9. Off to see the grandchild shortly so just hope that the Calder is still on its own side of the flood walls and not happily wandering down the road.
  10. Eased of now here but almost 27mm since it started with the heavier stuff for now at least on the Yorkshire side of the Pennines.
  11. 20mm in the last 6 hours at our local rain gauge and flood warnings are already out for the Upper Irwell and Upper Calder catchments. certainly horrible though and I can tell the direction of the wind by the need for a bucket where it drips from under the eaves.
  12. After the mild conditions of the last few days it felt a lot more seasonal sat on the football tonight and down to 4c driving over the tops coming back home. probably would have been even lower if that cloud hadn’t rolled in during the afternoon. anyway back to normal tomorrow with strong winds and heavy, driving rain.
  13. Agreed, I think that being a mild ramper and snow hater is the main qualification for becoming a weather presenter. they certainly seem obsessed with making Christmas be as un-Christmassy as possible
  14. Looking at todays weather, and the news; never have the words of Greg Lake’s masterpiece seemed more accurate. “they said there’d be snow at Christmas, they said there’d be peace on Earth. but instead it just kept on raining……………………..” Merry Christmas everyone, hope you got everything you wanted. have a good day.
  15. Thanks, we’ve just come back over the border from daughters. lovely to hold the little fella, especially when his eyes are open and looking back at you.
  16. 27th looking like a washout across the region although probably the only difference between this one and most days over the last few weeks is that at least it comes with a weather warning. Plenty of cold rain for 99% of the population with the chance of something slightly wintry for those who live as high as UK habitation gets but given the Day After Tomorrow charts showing just a week or so back, a poor effort.
  17. Wind not quite at howling level at the moment but I can hear it all the same and if anything it’s expected to get stronger as the day goes on. It seems like a long time since we have had as long a period of sustained windy weather without a calm gap in between and the less said about the rain over the last week or so, the better. the mild, I’ll make the most of as at least it’s comfortable in the house this morning without the heating having been on yesterday so even the crappest of weather has its benefits. last bits of present wrapping to do this morning then off over the border this afternoon to see daughter, partner gorgeous new baby boy and not forgetting the dog before a wind down ready for tomorrows extended family meal. I’m sure I’ll be lurking on here over the next few days but in the meantime can I wish all NW members and their families a merry Christmas.
  18. Some bright colours showing on the radar and there not far from here now. guess I’ll soon know how heavy the reds and oranges are. edit……..it’s arrived and it’s heavy.
  19. I wouldn’t put my house on it but I don’t think that todays rain would have stuck around these parts like a bad smell if it had been snow. probably been a bright and sunny afternoon.
  20. After a damp morning wandering round in the rain for the last few prezzies, we’re spending what is now an even wetter afternoon wrapping them. food shop at tea time when hopefully the crowds have died down a bit then that’s it for us with Christmas Eve left for those who choose to shop even later than we do.
  21. Looks like the Main Street in Hawes to me but could be wrong. always love looking at the black and white pictures of snow, mainly because the colour equivalent is about an inch of the stuff and plenty of slush. massively ironic that in the days where everyone has the means of taking high quality photographs sat in their pocket, when it comes to snow scenes, there’s just no opportunity.
  22. The Pennines getting plastered while I’m away on low ground for New Year. no surprise at all if that comes off.
