  1. Damp start but gradually improved as the day went on and a decent evening on the cards now. time to take the dog out I think.
  2. Thinking about it, 2013 was a decent summer up here. not overly hot but plenty of dry weather throughout the period. I remember that hot period you said in early August 2003, especially one baking hot day in Skipton and climbing Pendle Hill in stifling heat. 1997 I can't remember.
  3. Yep it's crap all right but at least the south is having to endure the conditions that I seem to have put up with for a lifetime. as for a decent August, I can't remember an outstanding one since 1995 so even those approaching 30 won't have seen a glut of August heatwave conditions. no doubt the decent conditions will make their annual return in late September, and October when the shorter days render it pretty worthless.
  4. She certainly wouldn't do the hiking bit unless there was a shopping mall at either end.
  5. Hmmmm, could manage that myself. Doubt the missus would be happy though although I did get her to the Grand Canyon last year which not long ago would have seemed impossible.
  6. Absolutely vile outside now. never mind only 3 more weeks of this dross to endure then its holidays where at least any rain will fall in temperatures in the 30's
  7. Well after seeing what seems like a procession of days where the centre of the U.K. is under rainy skies while others enjoy sunshine, it's payback time, if only for today. just been out with the dog and although not BBQ or beer garden weather, it's decent and dry if a little bit chilly. make the most of it though as from tomorrow afternoon it's back to conditions more like October.
  8. Same here, not completely dry but an improvement on yesterday. still looks and feels more like late autumn than mid summer though.
  9. We've had sunshine, we've had heavy rain, now we are back to sunshine again. Pretty well a typical summer Sunday.
  10. Decent start to the day with a bit for sunshine. time to take the dog out before any showers arrive.
  11. I can't speak for the rest of the region but it's been absolutely hammering it down here for about 4 hours and still no sign of it stopping. its amazing how we are always far enough south when rain is forecast but to far north when dry, sunny and hot is on the menu
  12. The radar shows a narrow band of heavy showers just to my south, are you not getting anything from them.
  13. Been darn sarf with work today so have missed the rain at home but it looks like we've had a fair bit, certainly plenty of debris in the spots where run off occurs. decent sunny evening though.
  14. Definately looks like those of us in the eastern parts of the region have seen the more disappointing conditions today but it's improved as the afternoon went on and more sun than cloud now. reached 20c so nowt special but could have been worse.
  15. Hardly a deluge up here either although a few heavy showers overnight and this morning. hopefully this mess will clear off and an improvement on yesterday come through.
  16. From memory, 1980 summer was pretty average around these parts. i was playing a bit of cricket at the time and remember a few weekend games being rained off. it was probably similar to this year in fact with a few decent days followed by a wet spell although I don't remember much in the way of hot conditions. the others I agree being as you said, 83 and 84 were belters, 83 with a hot July and for us was also a cracking hay making period, other than the sunburn I got one weekend, 84 for its dry, drought conditions. then it was downhill into a few years of poor conditions and I don't remember much in the way of memorable heat until 1989 and 1990
  17. Damp miserable start with a gradual improvement into what is now a lovely evening. Then tomorrow sees a descent into what is looking more and more like another weekend washout before something better arrives just in time for the start of the working week. never mind, I suppose summer 2017 could be worse, it could be a repeat of summer 2012 instead.
  18. OMG, just had two rumbles of thunder. Maybe all is not lost after all.
  19. I think the drizzle has officially turned to light rain. at least the flower tubs won't need a drink tonight.
  20. 23c, sultry feel, threatening looking skies..........all the ingredients for a damn good storm and then it arrives, drizzle. if this is all that is left in the severe weather cabinet after darn sarf had first refusal on it can I please have my sunshine and drought conditions back.
  21. Damp, fog hanging on the tops and thoroughly miserable, it must be weekend.
  22. And so this years yo yo summer continuous, after yesterday's washout comes a really lovely day and at 21c, decent enough temperatures. personally I'd happily take today's conditions for the next couple of months but I can't see it happening.
