  1. Hmmm, pretty sure I could manage that myself. can't see my missus being overly excited by the thought though although she has managed the Grand Canyon so anything's possible. anyway it took me a few seconds to get my head around your cat stuck in the culvert post before I realised that it wasn't the worlds biggest moggy that needed three tractors.
  2. Sunny here and 25c, oh sorry that was a gloating post ready for sending when I'm in Gran Canaria just before Christmas What I should have said is that it's absolutely hammering it down although not too bad for much of the day so rivers haven't had chance to rise.........yet. good luck to those less fortunate though.
  3. Need a weekend job as a Llama herder in the Andes then. never mind if it's a choice between a bit of wet slush and a weekend on the beer I'll take the beer, even if it's a London variety.
  4. Bound to get plastered in my location, I'm in London for the weekend
  5. Aye it's a bit damp and plenty more damp on the way tonight and tomorrow. Pretty confident for snow here by weekend as I'm in London Friday to Sunday and once missed a foot of the stuff while down there
  6. Frosty start but it's looking like a decent day's weather coming up so maybe time to get out and blow some cobwebs off. probably the missus has other walking ideas which include shops though.
  7. Plenty of ice scraping on the car this morning. not overly cold with a minimum of -1c but my fourth morning of wishing cold dark mornings would sod off, at least until days when I don't have to get up at stupid o'clock.
  8. Sunny here for about 2 minutes early afternoon but then normal service was resumed. as Di would say though, at least it was mild.
  9. If the forecast is to be believed then I could be looking at the first snow of the winter for this part of the region tomorrow afternoon. not expecting more than a slushy mess but it's a start and signs are promising for plenty more chances in the coming weeks. in the short term though, what a lovely day today, dry, sunny and cold, very seasonal but a decent day to wrap up and get out. preferably a good long walk but in my case, it looks like it's around shops
  10. We'll see. lovely day here now though after a damp start. a couple of quick inside jobs to do and then an afternoon doing a bit of tidying up in the garden by the looks of it.
  11. Not expecting anything here but if we do its not a bad start to the extended winter period although I can remember a winter of about four years ago when we had a couple of inches of early morning snow in mid November and next to nothing for the rest of the winter. we'll see though and I have a hunch that winter 2017-18 will be a bit more seasonal than the last few.
  12. The slightest bit of ice scraping on the cars this morning along with quite thick fog but a lovely day followed. not much chance of a repeat tonight or tomorrow I imagine but a decent couple of days at this time of year is always a bonus.
  13. Lovely autumn day and used it to give a couple of very wet lawns their last cut of the season. as others have said, possibility of a slight frost for eastern parts of the region later before the cloud rolls in but TBH I'd prefer going to work at stupid o'clock on a Monday morning without scraping car windows.
  14. Yeah not a bad day although cool out of the sun and it's certainly noticeable since it went dark. better than mild and wet though.
  15. After yesterday's grot and a cloudy start first think this morning, what a cracking day's weather. just a shame that it'll be dark by tea time but it's better than yesterday's mist drizzle and winds. definately the time of year when this region benefits most from a northerly; same thing in January and we'd be watching the eastern half of the country getting plastered in snow but as snow isn't on the menu I'll gladly take a cool day and sunshine.
  16. Absolutely vile day here today and one of those days when I wish I could knock about 500ft off my altitude, and thinking about it, 1000 miles of my latitude. hopefully Sunday will be a bit better but with horizontal drizzle since first light, anything is an improvement.
  17. What was It like in Todmorden, my daughter went to her boyfriends in Halifax last night but after seeing conditions in Bacup and looking at the warnings on the Irwell and Calder I told her to go M62. she got there ok but it is the long way round
  18. Another day but the same high winds. Brian has certainly packed a punch and in these parts was worse than Ophelia.
  19. The Met office warning was yellow, the lowest level and my bit of the region wasn't even in it. probably because it was for wind and we are a long way from the coast but it has been windier than earlier in the week when we were included. problem though is that we should have had an amber one for the rain that fell as this has had far greater impacts locally than the wind.
  20. Pretty sure Matt Hugo lives in Rossendale as well. its certainly been pretty bad around the valley but it looks like the rain has eased off a bit although not before roads and plenty of properties have been flooded.
  21. I can't see a repeat of the Boxing Day floods although current levels on the upper Irwell are the highest recorded since that day.
  22. Intense rain for several hours has brought flooding in the Rossendale Valley and there are flood warnings on the River Irwell and the Calder at Todmorden, both of which are at their highest levels since Boxing Day 2015. not expecting anything that serious but problems are starting to develop
