  1. Intense rain for several hours has brought flooding in the Rossendale Valley and there are flood warnings on the River Irwell and the Calder at Todmorden, both of which are at their highest levels since Boxing Day 2015. not expecting anything that serious but problems are starting to develop
  2. Some quite serious flooding issues developing around here now. Just come through Bacup and the town centre is flooded due to the Irwell overflowing and there are now flood warnings on the river right down the Rossendale Valley and over the border in Todmorden. thought it would be bad but not expecting this much rain.
  3. Really wild here now. heavy driving rain for the last hour or so and very windy. i can't see there being many leaves left on the trees by the time Brian sods off.
  4. Wet and windy in East Lancashire now, pretty much as forecast but horrible all the same.
  5. Blustery and wet and little signs of improvement for the rest of the day.
  6. Pretty gusty here and just had the first shower of the day. fine again now but looking at the sky I can't see it lasting and if the forecast comes off its going to be a wet, pretty much throughout from late afternoon until Sunday morning.
  7. Looking at the forecast I think rain will be the main issue here in East Lancs rather than the winds with a gradual deteriation as the day goes on into a wet evening and overnight. That said, it will be gusty and I'm not repairing the fence damaged earlier in the week until Brian has headed across the North Sea tomorrow.
  8. Lovely start to the day but it's looking like downhill from here on with wind and rain the beast we can look forward to. looks like a day for indoor jobs.
  9. Don't know but we got our fair share while it lasted and after sat watching a re run of the regional forecast on "this morning" .............don't even ask the rain was never shown to cross over from Yorkshire. In the end it gave the conservatory a good test but it passed with flying colours again.
  10. Thought the same myself, wettest day for a few weeks here with continuous heavy rain from lunchtime until early evening. hopefully the same set up will bring snow in winter but no doubt it will refuse to cross over the Pennines then and we'll end watching in envy.
  11. Make sure you cover the top of the glass so the rain can't get in, you'll be ok then.
  12. not really a fan of power cuts myself, I'm old enough to remember the ones in the 70's during the miners strikes and three day week These days they tend to bring the scroats out to cause havoc and cock up that most essential modern day item, the internet
  13. I hope Diane gets as excited when there's a foot of snow in the forecast as she was doing tonight's weather. Certainly not as bad as other parts of the British Isles but its looking like a rough few hours on the cards for the region.
  14. Wild now but only enough to form a nice pile of leaves, not shift them next door. they may need a helping hand from my snow shovel
  15. Getting leaf drifts outside the front door now. hopefully the wind will get up a bit more and put them on next doors drive instead
  16. After the weird coloured skies and calm conditions this morning it's getting pretty wild outside here now.
  17. Sorry Jo, I'm not talking about the US news, it's our good old BBC that don't seem to want big it up.
  18. Amazes me that if a hurricane was only hours away from somewhere in the states our news would be showing people boarding up properties and roads full of cars trying to evacuate. one is knocking our the door of our islands and it's considered far less important than the antics of some perv film producer and the expected rise in food prices when we leave the EU. I just hope that we don't regret the low profile the authorities and media seem to be giving this event although in 36 hours we'll know.
  19. Agreed but unfortunately the wheels of commerce must keep turning and people will go about their daily lives as normal. add to that the ones who chase the thrill and there will be a lot of people exposed to nature at its worst. I certainly wouldn't like to be driving a high sided truck over the top of Shap or Saddleworth Moor or walking along the sea front at Blackpool but unless the authorities prevent it, people will be risking injury or worse doing both.
  20. Finally a bit of brightness starting to show through the gloom up here. sorry, spoke to soon it's gone again.
  21. Feels pretty warm outside, just a shame it's wall to wall cloud so no real advantage can be taken from it. That said though, today's football could be a Phil Collins game, no jacket required which for Turf Moor in mid October is something special.
  22. Wet and windy day here but nothing out of the ordinary although the heavy showers late afternoon did cause a bit of minor short lived flooding. hopefully it's not the start of a pattern of weeks of rain
