  1. The problem is that Fred from Essex and his mates usually get their way when it comes to pinching our snow.
  2. Aye it is North West England after all. i was sort of hoping for snow as an excuse to not spend hours trailing around Manchester Christmas markets when driving means I can't even get warmed up on copious amounts of mulled wine.
  3. Models are showing everything slightly further south but the actual forecasts put much of the region in the sweet spot and the Met O amber warning seems to back that up. something's gotta give, what does we may know better by this time tomorrow. in the meantime though, a better potential for snow showers on Saturday as winds veer more to the west and showers get pushed further across the region. possibly memorable times coming up, possibly disappointing times but interesting all the same.
  4. If the shower distribution on the BBC forecast is anything to go by then my area looks more prone to showers on Saturday. maybe a slightly more westerly element as the wind back ready for the next system so you may be right with the festive feel. just needs Sunday's possible pasting to not disintegrate before our eyes.
  5. Snowing here, barely a cm but still coming down lightly so at least I've had something. hopefully Sunday will find one way to actually occur as forecast rather than a million reasons to not.
  6. Nothing but stars in the sky here and I've had to get my snow fix by watching a programme about Chenobyl instead. plenty of activity further north in Lancashire but whether it will come far enough south to give me anything I'm not convinced. no doubt I'll know more when I open the front door in the morning though.
  7. Like so many times over recent winters, we seem to be in a no mans land here. reminds me of a well known Stealers Wheel song "showers to the north of me, showers to the south. here I am, stuck in the middle with nowt" anyway early start tomorrow so with nothing happening, that's it for me tonight.
  8. Yeah I'll run up to the top of Deerplay and throw some down into Burnley. sorry the first run will be enough for me, I'll walk up there.
  9. If you've any spare can you throw it back over the tops to us in the snow starved NW. i'll run up the hill to the border and collect it.
  10. Problem is that the showers are aligned perfectly but about 30 miles to our north and just to rub it in even more are having no problem at all crossing the Pennines and turning West Yorkshire white. However you can put your last tenner on any that point themselves in our direction will fade before they reach us.
  11. How high do you think, your house, my house, top of Bleaklow. personally I think anyone above 150 metres should see a bit of settling snow, providing we actually get the damn showers. the tops of the South Pennines and Peak District could see a decent covering which with several cold days set to follow should give some fantastic walking conditions.
  12. Fifty seven members in the North West thread; just hope the downgrades sod off and we are all get the snow we are looking for.
  13. It'll be a small ice sculpture unless we can start a crowd funding thingy for snow. get enough and maybe we can knock together a miniature snowman.
  14. You should see snow at your altitude but your right that 90% of the population don't live on high ground so may see a slushy sleety mess instead. Still chance of surprises I suppose although upgrades are as rare as rocking horse muck in our region. At the moment though it's sleeting as best here and all of my earlier Hail has melted.
  15. Yep there's a lot of idiots in our village and letting fireworks off 52 weeks of the damn year is one of the stupid things that gets them excited. as for the weather, home early from work today and just got in as the hail briefly turned everything white. mostly gone now but definately sleet in the showers and still hopeful of snow later this evening and overnight. then we wait to see what Sunday brings.
  16. Peach of a forecast on BBC news just now. showers merging this evening across virtually off the the region and lasting well into the night so I'd imagine many of us will wake up to a decent covering in the morning. showers continuing on Friday for some then it's all eyes on Sunday with a significant area of snow crossing the region. could be a pasting.
  17. Snow is notoriously difficult to predict in this country and the thought of it panics a lot of people so they probably try and keep the lid on anything until they are as sure as possible.
  18. At least you can take some down with you and sell to the highest bidder. we are meant to be in Manchester wandering around Christmas markets on Sunday but I'm sure the thought of sleet in the city centre meaning a full blown white out in Bacup will sway me into a day at home.
  19. Your well in the warning area now so as others have said, the Met must be expecting a more westerly flow or troughs to come through. Showers can be hit and miss but I can't see altitude being a big problem as the cold digs in so I'd expect practically everyone to see snow tomorrow evening or at least wake up to it on Friday. how much will depend on location and a fair bit of luck but some of us could be digging out by early next week.
  20. Hope your right but don't think it'll be sorted until the bay. still think someone in the region will get hammered, just don't think it will be IMBY.
  21. Don't worry, I do live up in the gods and I'm still not expecting much. recent history has told me that the cold only seems to dig in when the precipitation dries up and I think the wind direction will give us cold but nothing more than dry and sunny conditions, at least until we get into next week. seasonal conditions for Sunday's Manchester Christmas market trip but a bit of falling snow would add to the effect.
