  1. Knock a zero off and that's me but for some reason being sheltered by the Bowland Fells and other hills barely higher than I am means I see very little from a NW direction. its always amazed me how mountains which wouldn't count as foothills in most countries on Earth still think they are the Andes when it comes to stopping snow in its tracks.
  2. I'd prefer a correction the other way if it's on offer, plenty of cold mixed into a straight westerly and its bingo for East Lancs but I'm not greedy and whoever gets the snow, enjoy. still plenty of time for the unlucky ones to get another bite of the cherry
  3. over a foot of snow IMBY. personally I can't see anything but a downgrade from there although even a halfway house will do.
  4. Just watched a uninspiring BBC forecast if it's heavy snow your looking for. heavy rain and mild mid week followed by much colder weather on Thursday but no mention of snow on what could have been our best chance day.
  5. One flake or two One things for sure, I'll need plenty of layers on at the football on Saturday afternoon
  6. I wouldn't be too sure. i'm too young to remember 1963 but the late 60's and early 70's were my growing up period and snowy winters were more frequent, certainly up here than they are now.
  7. Let's face it, unless your a couple of thousand feet up a mountain all of our region is crap for snow but unless I'm looking through snow tinted glasses, I'm sure that winters when I was young were pretty well guaranteed deep snow and plenty of sledging. that said though, short legs as a child make snow look deeper.
  8. Not expecting much, even up here. we have the altitude but the best we get from a Northerly is sunshine and drought conditions and a north westerly offers little better. eutopia here is a straight westerly or WNW with plenty of cold embedded in the flow or that rarest of modern beasts, frontal snow where the cold to the east remains intact.
  9. You want to come up to Bacup, we measure the snow in feet. and that's in July
  10. Welcome aboard mate. i've done a fair bit of walking over the years but never been up Winter Hill although at night the mast has often guided me home from the pub. anyway just cracked open a nice Chilean Merlot, it's officially wine o'clock
  11. No wine for me just yet. daughter bought me one of those beer advent calendar things and I'm just making the most of a nice ale courtesy of December 2nd. then it's pork chops and wedges washed down by another beer or two before maybe it's wine o'clock. nowt else to do on a dark, damp winter's night with sod all on the telly and a lie in tomorrow.
  12. Completely forgot about 2010. We had decent falls in early January but I think yourselves did better out of that than we did and the snow in December was a pretty good effort but nothing outstanding. i'd love to see another 79 though, countrywide decent winter but severe at times in the Pennines. i'm fairly certain that we had almost continuous snow cover in the higher parts of Bacup from New Year until March.
  13. March 2013 was my last decent blizzard and probably yours as well. before that the early 90's, before that the early 80's then the daddy of all for anyone at my age or younger - 1979 will I see better in the next 20 years, possible, will it be this winter, no chance.
  14. Do you still have any snow machines so we can make a bit to fill that bucket.
  15. Surprised to see this morning's dandruff on the drive still there when I got home at tea time. the front of the house does face NE but even so the ground must be pretty cold for it to last all day. as for next week's will it won't it blizzard, do I get my snow shovel ready and then not use it or leave it in the shed and wish I hadn't.
  16. Well I got my covering. barely a cm but as I was darn sarf when we got last weekend's more substantial falls this is my first lying snow of the season. Off out now to do the part of winter I detest, scraping ice off cars.
  17. Nowt here so far apart from a damn cold feeling day with a stiff breeze along with plenty of sunshine. as for snow chances, it's hard to get any further east in our region than where I live so maybe a dusting of snow by morning but not expecting any more than a bit of a covering.
  18. Cancel them, that bloke in North Korea has a few spare ICBM ice shifters he said he would send across.
  19. I've put frost covers on tonight so Sod's law says it won't freeze. if it does though just send us a couple of them down.
  20. Do they sell it in Wetherspoons i used to wipe a bit of antifreeze on the windscreen with a cloth the night before and it worked pretty well but smears like hell that said though a Russian navy icebreaker would have struggled moving this morning's crap.
  21. Another morning of chopping thick ice of the car windscreens at stupid o'clock. frost I can stand but so far this season it's been nothing but door sticking ice which the scraper just looks at and surrenders. It must be an age thing but all I can think of is role on Spring.....or at least my pre Christmas holiday in Gran Canaria.
  22. Been in London for the weekend so as expected missed a decent snowfall up here. now I'm back its peeeeeing down although the chance of something wintry from the forecast showers as the colder air digs in
  23. First bit of sleet of the winter on the car windscreen this morning and plenty of heavy rain showers and hail through the day. if it had been a few weeks further on with more embedded cold I think we could have had a decent fall of snow today but it wasn't and cold rain certainly doesn't appeal. hopefully a couple of dry days coming up now, small comfort to those seriously affected by last nights flooding but at least it helps a bit with the drying out process.
