  1. Sleety snow here blowing in a very strong wind. Current temperature is around 2 degrees with a dew just below freezing, hopefully if the heavier stuff develops than evaporation cooling might take place otherwise it will be a non event here. A big thaw has taken place today as well with only a very slight covering on pavements and grass now.
  2. Go on Google maps/earth and go to street view at your house, it will give you the hight above sea level at the bottom.
  3. Not sure what to make of the weather warning issued by the met. Issued at: 1218 on Sun 20 Jan 2013 Valid from: 1200 on Sun 20 Jan 2013 Valid to: 2359 on Sun 20 Jan 2013 A band of snow is spreading northwards across parts of southeastern and eastern England, as well as the Midlands and will reach parts of north Wales and northeast England during Sunday afternoon and evening. This will bring accumulations of 2-5 cm snow to some areas, and perhaps in excess of 8 cm towards coastal counties of southeast and eastern England. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel. http://www.metoffice.../?regionName=yh Doesn't suggest sleet or rain for coastal counties does it, or an I reading too much into this?
  4. I would think you would so fine. Usually 10 miles is considered coastal. I share your concerns though as I'm about 3-4 miles from the mouth of Humber. I have read the reports from down south and it is snowing in Brighton so you never know.
  5. Any chance of seeing a chart mate, would love to see what it suggests for the region. Thanks
  6. I share your expectations, I have wished for an easterly wind all winter thinking it would be cold and full of convection snow showers, instead we get on that raises air temperatures and has the possibility of turning a good snow event into sleety rain for areas that should do well in this setup. I must say though that people further west could do very well throughout this week. Fingers crossed for the whole region.
  7. Quick question from me. We have icicles hanging of our garage roof but the temperature hasn't fallen below 2 degrees for nearly 24hrs. Could this be caused by the -3 dew points?
  8. I shouldn't really complain when I 've had a decent covering of snow for nearly a week now I just hate it when it melts (its the child in me lol). Really hope we can keep most of our coverage before tomorrows snow hits. Going by the charts posted above we could do quite well.
  9. At least the dew points are getting colder!! What do you think we will get tomorrow evening/night? I am hopeful for at least an inch or 2, just hope we stay right side of marginal
  10. Yeah, I've noticed that too, I just wish the air temp would go down!!! Feels balmy out there compared with the -6's we were getting last week.
  11. Very slow thaw here today as temperatures have hovered around 2 degrees for much of afternoon, I think the reason why the thaw has been slow has been down to the dew points with have remained sub zero all day. I would really love things to get down to zero as bbc look north suggest it will, I just can't see it some how.
  12. Still snowing steadily here in GY, nothing too heavy but snowing non the less. We have got around 2-3cm today which has topped up Monday's fall quite nicely. No thundersnow here unfortunetly. Temperature hovering around 0 thankfully
  13. What are your thoughts abouth Sundays events in our part of the world Reef. Do you expect us to see rain/sleet or will Snow be more likely, thanks GSL
  14. Why does Matt Hugoo think rain/sleet below 150 metres? Would really appreciate an explanation as your charts seem to suggest a greater chance of snow, thanks
  15. Most likely down to the change in wind direction, we don't want the temperatures to rise too much.
  16. Just a quick question from me. Does anyone know what the dew points and 850's will be during Sunday night/Monday when the next lot of snow will hit? I have looked through the French site and weatheronline but can't seem to find what I need, thanks GSL
  17. Finally some much bigger, heavier flakes here now. Matt Hugo seems to suggest the snow on Sunday night is more likely to fall as rain or sleet if below 150metres which to me doesn't sounds too good. GFS precipitation charts also support this. What are other peoples opinion s on this? Thanks GSL
  18. Roads seemed fine mate when I came home form work around Grimsby. I can't tell you what the Wolds roads are like but there are no issues around here at the moment
  19. Steady light snow here in Grimsby which started around 3pm. Currently added about 1-2cm max so far. When is the heavy stuff due to arrive or is this it? I have seen many forecasts since coming home from work and non mentioned heavy snow showers frfom the east, seems strange that seen as the SE has already created many showers. What are other people thoughts on this?
  20. Light snower shower here over the past 30 minutes leaving a dusting on cars etc. Main snow band looking quite beefy and should give most of us a good covering later on. With a temperature of -1 it feels positivily spring like compared with previous mornings.
  21. Looks great for your part of the coast matey, It looks like the bottom edge might just scrape here.
  22. For what its worth looking at events next Tuesday/Wednesday the easterly as was the case this weeks looks to be getting lighter when comparing it with previous runs. Pretty good upper temperatures though. http://cdn.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20130117/18/126/h850t850eu.png
  23. Matthew Hugoâ€@MattHugo81 The amalgamation of showers off the North Sea is definitely bringing an added difficulty to the fcsts but NE Eng at risk of heavy snow shrs Hope this include our region as well as Tyneside.
  24. Hahahahahahahah, think I need to learn how to spell, especially since I'm a Primary Teacher lol. Fluffies=flurries
