  1. Heavy sleet now in Nth BTL; bit of a surprise. In fact more snow mixed in than rain.
  2. I think you mean snow mixed in with rain; that is sleet. Still raining here in Nth BTL, albeit v.light.
  3. Chucking it down with rain in North BTL;the odd flake, but generally all rain. The milder air seems to be on the march northwards into the Midlands for now. Things could change i suppose. Plus, our local BBC forecaster, has been posting on a regular basis in the south west discussion thread and we had a warning for Monday Evening this week for snow, which we didn't have. He explained that these warnings go out from the MetO with a 50 mile margin of error. So be prepared for some letdowns as well. Cheers
  4. Time to move on now guys! Back to the model watching for hopefully, the next cold, snowy spell. Signs of a possible return around the New Year. Maybe some winter 78/79-like blizzards as the main course, to follow the 'starter' we've just experienced.
  5. Well, latest graphics on BBC national weather at 10:35 changed again from earlier forecasts on BBC News24 at 19:57 and 20:27. Snow now forecast for north midlands - we are forecast to just get rain. Seems like we're going to lose the really cold temps for a few days at least from tomorrow night. Latest GFS run is hinting at return to cold and snow towards new year though.
  6. Yeah, been quite unusual for our part of the world to be fair. Usually we're tearing our hair out in BTL as the cotswolds get hammered. I think tomorrow night though you will see some snow, but not convinced the really cold air will hang around for too long, before the precipitation moves off through the Midlands.
  7. Too much green compared to North Bristol, though, James. LOL
  8. Completely off topic i know, but talking of one of the south west posters - what's happened to Jemtom this winter?- last year he was a very frequent poster. Anyone know?
  9. Ian's already said at the mo the prediction is BTL northwards, but with underlying warning that the exact areas that could be subject to a period of snow could change. Forecasting nightmare - we'll know more tomorrow.
  10. My take on tom eve is it looks like one of those typical evenings from last February where the v.short range forecasts (within a few hours of the event) was changing all the time. As we all know most of us in BTL, Gloucs and N. Somerset were on the 'right' side of marginal for those falls in Feb. Maybe tomorrow
  11. Cheers Ian. Looking at the graphics on the 19:57 forecast on news24 looked like we'd get some snow action in BTL around teatime tomorrow; then watched the forecast at 20:27 and the forecaster didn't want to say too much. My interpretation of that is "uncertainty" to detail in tom night's forecast. Must be a nightmare for you guys at the mo.
  12. Probably the fiercest blizzard i've experienced, even here in BTL there were drifts of 3 feet on the edge of town. For the following week or so daytime temps didn't get above freezing. Then into January we had another 3 blizzards i think. 78/79 was a major cold and quite snowy one.
  13. Just watched News24 weather on the Beeb and West Midlands looks favourable for snow tomorrow eve - forecast to hit Bristol area at around teatime and then up to you guys. Ours will turn back to rain, but staying as snow for you.
  14. Just watched News24 weather on Beeb - showing snow for our area around teatime tomorrow - is that an upgrade to earlier forecast? Worth keeping an eye on.
  15. Yeah, noticed that on raintoday radar. Could pep up; keep us Bristolians posted as it looks like it could run along the S.E. Wales area and into North BTL. Cheers
  16. Doesn't look much out there from looking at raintoday radar, but there must be a chance they pep up in next couple of hours - keep an eye on them.
  17. Just saw the BBC news24 forecast and they seem pretty confident now that the v.cold weather is on its way out for the south over next couple of days. Reckon we'll have to wait for the new year now for chance of more snow.
  18. Our buddy, Ian, was doing the weather on the local forecast this morning and he mentioned the chance of some snow showers today for our area, but looking on raintoday radar they look like snow over Exmoor, but rain approaching here. He also used a photo from Michael Prys-Roberts this morning - congrats to you Michael if you're logging on today.
  19. Can't see it happening myself. The odd shower possible into N.Devon coast from the channel. Reading was featured on the BBC news just now from today, v.heavy snow during this afternoon. Well, latest radar pics shows they are about to be hit again by heavy snow. Lucky them!
  20. Organised band of showers look like they're heading for the North Devon coast, according to raintoday radar. Prob an hour away if they don't fizzle out.
  21. I've been keeping an eye on these as well, but painfully slow moving and not really 'organised' like last night. I'd be v.surprised if they came to anything, but you never know.
  22. Just been looking at the raintoday radar and it seems the band is definitely moving away from us towards the east midlands - a close call but not close enough. I must admit it looked at 9 this morning that the track of the precipitation was exactly the track it has actually taken. Some shower activity off the Mumbles at the mo - any chance of a repeat of last night's Bristol Channel 'streamer'?
  23. Nope! Just caught News24 weather at 19:58. So near, yet so far. Looks like the band has reached its most western boundary; prob about 20 miles east of Bristol I've had this recurring nightmare in the last 24 hours. What if this last few days was our winter in the West? - the only cold and snow we'll get all winter. Doesn't bare thinking about! Edit: Thanks Ian, for the update.
  24. Graphics on BBC News24 right now shows the band of snow getting literally within a few miles of BTL, but doesn't quite make it. Let's hope it comes a further 20 miles west
  25. Tricky Dicky now saying the snow over Reading area may reach the far east of our region - maybe as far west as Bath! Typical!
