15:00
18:00
Western Scotland then looks to get the end of the stick - heavy rain/gales Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday.

Another glorious Spring day! 14C, slight breeze and sunshine galore.
Been a fantastic week.On this day last week we had hail, torrential downpours, snowfall over higher ground and Winter was trying its best to hang on!
Today/this week the complete opposite - first Summer night feeling staring out the window earlier.
Then I remember it is only March and check the forecast for next week...
It was fun while it lasted!
Have a good weekend everyone!

Hail, torrential downpours, gales and snowfall down to two hundred meters in the last couple of days.
Proper early Spring weather!
Winter 2020/21 was fairly quiet on the convective weather front here! (Great stuff the last couple of Winters)
January delivered a day or two of interest.
Looking forward to late Spring/Summer!
All the best to you all.

Morning all!
Been an action packed couple of days - gales, hail, torrential downpours and snowfall over higher ground.
Settling snowfall level was lower than forecast! Got down to 200 meters across the water yesterday morning.
Good depths on the higher hills yesterday evening,
Woke up this morning to more showers rattling through.
Snow will be melting away quite quickly around these parts.

Planning Outlook
All change in the weather pattern again next week, as pressure builds from the south. Until Tuesday, occasionally further precipitation, but then substantially dry although cloud will come and go - albeit much of the cloud will be above the summits. Temperature wise, the present cold conditions will give way, as freezing levels rise above the summits.
Looks decent for many of us next week - spells of sunshine and daytime temperatures of 10/11/12C at times.
Lighter winds also so should feel pleasant!Have a good weekend all the best to you all.

Wild day here so far!
40mph gusts, couple of hail showers and torrential downpours.Few rumbles of thunder/lightning down in Dumfries & Galloway spotted on the radar.
Good stuff later for the lucky folk who live above 250 meters. (Settling snowfall higher up)
Wintry showers down to 150/200 meters - even outside the warning.
Got to love early Spring at times - proper mix of weather!
Rest of the month all looks very average on current output! Hopefully plenty of sunshine at least.
Had enough of 8C, grey/low cloud and drizzle recently.I am ready for a warm spell of weather! 20C for a week or two during April/May would be great followed by a hot and thundery Summer.
Skip Autumn and straight into a cold and snowy Winter 2021/22.All the best to you all.

Convective Weather
WWW.CONVECTIVEWEATHER.CO.UKForecasting thunderstorms and severe convective weather across the British Isles and Ireland for up to the next 5 days. Will be keeping an eye on the hills/mountains across the water - freezing level will be roughly 400/500 meters at times over there but obviously other snow parameters to consider. (Wintry showers at least on the higher hills)
Should be some cracking Cumulonimbus clouds at times - great wind direction here with these setups.Weather boredom the last three weeks with sunshine, showers and temperatures hovering in the high single digits most of the time IMBY.
Expecting 50mph gusts here Tuesday night - well overdue of course after a very quiet Winter!Speaking of Winter - January really was a cold one!
Mean temperature against 1981-2010:
One for the older members on here but even against 1961-1990 it still looks quite impressive.
Overall charts for Winter 2020/21 against 1981-2010:
Mean temperature:

Sunshine duration:
Not bad at all for most - especially that period from Christmas through to mid February.
Sunset pictures season begins here April to June - looking forward to it! Warmth, heat, sunshine and plenty of convective weather hopefully during those months and through the rest of Summer for us all! (If you are a fan of those weather types of course)
Oh and not forgetting Noctilucent clouds season ahead as well - lots to look forward to.
All the best to you all.

Official statistics for winter 2020-2021 confirm a fairly average winter overall temp wise - compared to 81-10 figures, slightly milder when measured against 61-90 average, although Scotland was colder than 81-10 average. Rainfall wise quite interesting with the east much wetter than normal, Tyne and Wear reportedly had its wettest winter on record. Sunshine levels near average but duller than normal in western and southern parts. Countryfile bbc forecast used to give an overview of the season just gone, as was expecting it on tonight's episode, nothing mentioned, almost as if we shouldn't talk about winter 2020-2021, erase from memory..
I was interested to note the Countryfile edition this evening reported on cold conditions in Scottish Highlands this winter, lochs frozen solid for 6 weeks yet the stats wouldn't make you think this could have happened. I suspect the period 24 Dec to 12 Feb was notably cold though, the remainder of the winter very mild.
January was the really cold month for Scotland.
Mean temperature against 1981-2010:
Also against 1961-1990:Here are the overall Winter 2020/21 charts below:
Mean temperature against 1981-2010:

Sunshine duration against 1981-2010:
Fantastic Winter for many up here with plenty of snowfall/cold weather.
Special mention also for the distinct lack of gales/severe gales here in Western Scotland - recurring theme in recent times.

@hillbilly that temperature you mentioned above was unofficial.
Recorded official minimum temperature for that Winter/month is shown above in my quoted post (also in the Met Office tweet below) - Trevor Harley website information is wrong.
@Aleman @damianslaw Official lowest temperature in England this Winter so far in the tweet below
Definitely not an all time minimum February record for England - ignore the papers nonsense.- 1

Impressive! I thought Feb 86 produced a colder temperature.
Yes - pretty incredible!
Seen this earlier - 2010 was very special!
Also note on the above tweet...three UK stations went below -20.0C this morning.
We all know about Braemar! -23.0C! Other two are Kinbrace -20.9C and Balmoral -20.5C.
Altnaharra got very close -19.9C!
The Braemar temperature this morning is the coldest since 30/12/1995 - Altnaharra -27.2C.- 2

Last post from me of the day/probably the rest of Winter in this thread as I can’t see us going lower than this on current models/charts/outlook.
Always nice to see 1962/63 mentioned.
All the best to you all!

Met Office have just updated the warning for Saturday.
For all of us in the warning just expect some light snowfall at the very least and with a bit of luck we will all get a heavy snowfall surprise!
Hopefully the band of snow makes it into western Scotland with a bit of oomph! - Northern Ireland the sweet spot at the moment for the heavy stuff.- 7

Very good going, don't think many saw such low temperatures, -20 degrees was expected. The fact we have beaten Jan 2010 and Dec 2010 is very noteworthy.
Quite incredible!
-22.9C recorded in Braemar this morning is our lowest February minimum temperature since 1955!
That was Braemar once again! -25C on 23/02/1955.- 8

Bonkers!
Just read this is the coldest February minimum temperature since 1955. (Braemar -25C on 23/02/1955)
Had a wee look at the weekend charts this morning.
Met Office/UKV - could be quite snowy once again for parts of the NE tomorrow! Just a couple of snapshots but it continues through most of the day! (Further inland also)
Friday 00:00
03:00
Saturday risk is looking a bit rubbish currently - patchy snow!
15:00
18:00
21:00
Sunday could be decent for higher ground - low level risk also. (Rain/sleet for many)
15:00
Edit: Happy Birthday @Mair Snaw
Perfect weather for it!- 18

What a great Winter it has been in Scotland - lying snow from coast to coast, record breaking depths for some parts, prolonged cold spells and now this official minimum temperature! Tough ask to beat that through the remainder of February.
Edit: Update!

Yes - spot on.
-20C was registered on a PWS.
-18.8C is our official lowest of Winter so far as at 21:00.
-18.6C there now at 22:00.
Keep an eye on Braemar into the early hours - Met Office going with -21C now.
@Kirkcaldy Weather Not sure mate - looked this up myself in the past and could not find anything with regards to record for lowest dewpoint temperature.

Morning all
Hope you are well!
I have sixty pages to catch up on!
Few brief moderate/heavy snow showers made it through here on Monday morning:
Monday night:
Overnight into this morning:
Between all that..about twenty snow flurries!
I was not in the yellow warning at any point and my expectation was for a few dustings so it all went to plan for here!
Lovely satellite image of the current snow cover:
Oh and this.
Hopefully Saturday delivers the goods!12:00
15:00

Then this...
I have twenty minutes to spare...time to catch up on this thread!
