Winter was average in temperature, so not very interesting. It just seemed cold because we have gone through several mild wet winters since the cold cluster in 2008-2010.

Can’t agree with some of that.

Guess it depends on ones location but I would say it was cold and very interesting.

Cold weather and snowfall was fairly widespread/persistent throughout the Winter months - late December, most of January and first half of February. (Obviously Northern parts get the majority of the cold/snow in Winter…just as Southern parts get the majority of the warmth/heat in Summer)

Throw in the BFTE that delivered for many (rubbish for some of course) and the coldest February minimum temperature (-23C) since 1955.

January was a proper Winter month. (2.1C below average for Scotland)

I would take a Winter like that every year.

And just to add...more air frosts expected before the month is over!

Was just reading that forecast @Northernlights mentioned above.

    MWIS.ORG.UK

    Planning Outlook

Staying cold into the weekend with higher mountains typically near to freezing point, although there will be some diurnal range of freezing level; frost common into many valleys overnight. Wind often fairly light, particularly into the weekend. Showers with hail, initially toward north & eastern coasts in the mornings will break out more widely inland into the afternoons. Showers locally frequent, but precipitation amounts mostly small, so still very dry underfoot. The air generally very clear, with cloud often above the hills away from showers. Next week may bring more widespread precipitation as lower pressure moves in; likely staying cool, especially in the Highlands.

Latest ECM monthly delivers below average temperatures into mid May for Scotland.

We will all appreciate a sustained warm/hot spell (one week at the very least!) when it finally arrives!

    All the best!

We all saw this one coming - few more air frosts to be added before the month is over!

I like my mid/late Spring temperatures in the mid to high teens (even higher would be better) so was quite excited when viewing the ECM earlier.

Fingers crossed for the above and then a warm/hot sunny May would be great as well!

This is why I try and stay away from posting about the later stages of OP runs - back to Winter on tonight’s ECM

Will that be correct though? Probably not! Met Office outlook does not agree - mentions likely turning warmer! The plot thickens.

Bishopton was the warmest place in the UK today...that shows you just how poor the weather/temperatures are elsewhere at the moment!

Yeah when looking through all the years at Heathrow for their max temps on weatheronline it's rarely below 20C every summer. Up here that would be classed as great.

Yes - Heathrow/Kew Gardens definitely benefits from the urban heat island effect compared to the UK overall.

Going back to the Manchester rainfall discussion...15th wettest city in the UK.
Always thought it would be higher!

    Cardiff at number one.

Information below was taken from Met Office rainfall figures between 1981 - 2015.

Not too bad here..average to above average.
    Excluding November...that was woeful!

This month has been above average also.

Hopefully a warm/sunny May for us all with some decent thunderstorms thrown in.
Last couple months of May have been fairly quiet.

I remember when we used to get warm days in April!

@shuggee risk of frosts continues right through until next weekend (current output) - must be a new all time record approaching for you. (Total number of recorded air frosts - not sure what period you cover? Just Winter and Spring or all seasons combined?)

  7. Evening all!

Fair play to @Northernlights - he has been talking/musing about a cold April spell for weeks! Nailed it!

Easter Sunday (afternoon/evening) cold/wintry showers arrive.

UKMO Easter Monday - absolutely stunning charts! Snowfall to sea level!

Most of next week looks cold with further wintry outbreaks.

    MWIS.ORG.UK

    Planning Outlook

Fine and fairly warm into the Easter Weekend, but on Sunday bitterly cold air from deep within the Arctic will surge southwards into Scotland, penetrating all mountain areas by dawn on Monday. Higher areas then sub-freezing most of next week, and snow and hail showers widespread. One or two areas of persistent snow will move southeastwards giving substantial falls in places - sometimes lying into the valleys.

    Met Office outlook:

I am ready for warmth/heat...but you can never say no to a cold/frosty spell of weather with the risk of wintry showers/snowfall!

All the best to you all!

A desperately poor forecast for today when compared to the reality.

Can’t get it right 12 hours out - and to think there are those who believe in long range forecasts!

Indeed - was hoping the usual London hotspots would break the all time March record. (25.6C)

Still great stuff elsewhere of course with sunshine and high temperatures.

No other area really has a chance though at the record - can’t see anywhere officially getting above yesterday’s temperature! (24.5C)

Unless Kew Gardens, Heathrow, London City ect ect delivers the goods later...not looking great currently.

It is all my fault - my aunt lives down in London...told her last night expect 25/26C degrees today.
