A very cold week indeed for early May. Anticipate winter conditions, and on Monday and perhaps again toward or into next weekend, severe upland gales and heavy rain - particularly across England and Wales. Most precipitation will be of snow in Scotland. Particularly cold conditions for early May will follow, with widespread overnight frost, low freezing levels and areas of hail and snow showers, some heavy with thunder. Further strong winds and rain (snow some higher areas) will spread in off the Atlantic toward or into next weekend.
Hopefully Summer delivers the goods! Warmth, heat, sunshine and plenty of thunderstorms.

Evening all!
The cold/below average temperatures just goes on and on! Getting a wee bit sick of it now!
Next Monday afternoon through to Wednesday could throw up a surprise or two for higher ground. (300/400 meters - maybe slightly lower!)
Track/detail will obviously change but this could give snowfall to fairly low levels through Monday evening/overnight into the early hours of Tuesday. (Numerous models show different things but freezing level is roughly four/five hundred meters at times so who knows! @shuggee could be in luck for a wintry mix on current output)
ECM for Monday.
Tuesday wintry/snow showers over the higher hills/mountains.
Wednesday (05/05) looks a wee bit colder so that wintry showers risk coming down to modest levels - all charts below for 12:00.
All of this would not look out of place in December! It is only a month until meteorological Summer…give us a break!

Quite impressive for the time of year.
Real struggle to hit double figures IMBY next week. (Monday through to Thursday at the very least)
It has been chilly with the odd light shower here recently - plenty of sunshine though and it feels quite pleasant at times.
Sunset (through the window) last Friday just before 21:00
Tonight (through the window) just before 21:00 once again.
Not much sign of a warm up anytime soon for us - hint of something milder later next weekend but doubts as to how far North this gets! If at all.
I would take a repeat of the final week in May last year! (Just screenshots - don’t try and press play. )

Staying cold into the weekend with higher mountains typically near to freezing point, although there will be some diurnal range of freezing level; frost common into many valleys overnight. Wind often fairly light, particularly into the weekend. Showers with hail, initially toward north & eastern coasts in the mornings will break out more widely inland into the afternoons. Showers locally frequent, but precipitation amounts mostly small, so still very dry underfoot. The air generally very clear, with cloud often above the hills away from showers. Next week may bring more widespread precipitation as lower pressure moves in; likely staying cool, especially in the Highlands.
Latest ECM monthly delivers below average temperatures into mid May for Scotland.
26/04 to 02/05:
03/05 to 09/05:
10/05 to 16/05: (NE/SE Scotland trending average at this stage)
We will all appreciate a sustained warm/hot spell (one week at the very least!) when it finally arrives!

Will that be correct though? Probably not! Met Office outlook does not agree - mentions likely turning warmer! The plot thickens.
Bishopton was the warmest place in the UK today...that shows you just how poor the weather/temperatures are elsewhere at the moment!

Yes - Heathrow/Kew Gardens definitely benefits from the urban heat island effect compared to the UK overall.

Fair play to you guys above - only in Scotland with temperatures currently of 12/13C. (14/15C expected through the afternoon for some)
Just went for a run in a light (running) jacket and I was still quite chilly - did see a few folk sunbathing on the beach.
It has been cold for months of course so all the best to them - well deserved!
Enjoying my last few days of working from home! Back in a stuffy office from Monday.
Nice to see the weather will be rubbish - perfect timing.

High pressure influences Britain through the next week to 10 days, maintaining quiet and fairly cool conditions, although a gradual rise of temperature is expected. Frost remains common, with a general rise of freezing level on the mountains into the afternoons. Existing lying snow on higher mountains will stay in place, thawing slightly during daytimes. Sun and variable cloud; most mountains often clear. Very little precipitation, apart from very isolated showers of snow or soft hail. Mostly light winds, but there may be some strengthening of wind around next weekend.

This is looking a wee bit more widespread than previously forecast - especially through the Central belt and parts of the SW/S.

Wee mention for NE Scotland as well - they could be absolutely pummelled with snow showers! Heavy and prolonged Sunday night through Monday morning.

Could be some fun and games with that as it moves inland for many.
All of this subject too many changes at this range - plenty of potential though for wintry hazards! (Met Office buzzword of Winter 2020/21 )

Squall lines, strong to gale force winds, snowfall, sleet, thunder & lightning, hail, torrential downpours and frosts - risk of all that throughout the UK and Ireland for next week.
Sunday night through Monday looks absolutely wild for many.

Models usually underestimate convective weather so that would be a good starting point above - still a wee while to go before we can be super confident on this happening...but the current signs are very promising!

Easter Sunday (afternoon/evening) cold/wintry showers arrive.
UKMO Easter Monday - absolutely stunning charts! Snowfall to sea level!

Fine and fairly warm into the Easter Weekend, but on Sunday bitterly cold air from deep within the Arctic will surge southwards into Scotland, penetrating all mountain areas by dawn on Monday. Higher areas then sub-freezing most of next week, and snow and hail showers widespread. One or two areas of persistent snow will move southeastwards giving substantial falls in places - sometimes lying into the valleys.
Met Office outlook:
I am ready for warmth/heat...but you can never say no to a cold/frosty spell of weather with the risk of wintry showers/snowfall!

It is all my fault - my aunt lives down in London...told her last night expect 25/26C degrees today.

Can’t agree with some of that.
Guess it depends on ones location but I would say it was cold and very interesting.
Cold weather and snowfall was fairly widespread/persistent throughout the Winter months - late December, most of January and first half of February. (Obviously Northern parts get the majority of the cold/snow in Winter…just as Southern parts get the majority of the warmth/heat in Summer)
Throw in the BFTE that delivered for many (rubbish for some of course) and the coldest February minimum temperature (-23C) since 1955.
January was a proper Winter month. (2.1C below average for Scotland)
I would take a Winter like that every year.
