  1. I agree, whilst up here temperatures will probably be below average, sunshine is likely so it won't feel too bad. Some signals are starting to point towards another heatwave during the second half of this month, and if this is the case I'll really enjoy the variety. One long heatwave gets too much, as does endless wet weather. Hopefully this year we'll get a traditional mix of everything The wind maybe a bit strong in the north this week though, and that would make it feel a bit chilly, but its hard to say what the exact conditions will be like.
  2. I really hope we don't get locked into a bad pattern as happened last August after the late July hot spell On the bright side, there were plenty of northerlies in 1995 (June in particular, but also at the very end of August) so hot weather could easily return later, but it will probably be the end of July if it does.
  3. Strong storms here today between 14:00 and 17:00 on and off. The odd rumble now, but just moderate rain at 23.5C. 38mm has fallen here this afternoon
  4. Thunder coming from my west again, and suddenly it is quite frequent.
  5. Close one, but I love days like today and the thunder that goes with them. Cold is only good if it comes with heavy snow, whereas hot weather is good with or without the storms.
  6. Distant thunder started again now, brief spell of sunshine though and its back up to 26.8C
  7. I unfortunately haven't bothered keeping a record so I cant post it here but I thought I'd point out that 24mm has fallen in less that 2 hrs and you only had 23.3mm in May
  8. Apparently Newcastle has got a dewpoint of 19C this afternoon! Pretty high for up here...
  9. Another dark thundercloud heading this way, but some blue sky is now visible between the clouds. The convection is very impressive!
  10. I'm onto cell 3 now, the 1st didn't deliver much thunder though.
  11. Same here, 22mm in the last hour 28.2C earlier, but it is still 26.7C now so no relief, its actually worse. Thunder rumbling once every 30 seconds to a minute now.
  12. No sea fret here yet  Cooler than yesterday though, and a little cloud is visible in the distance from time to time.
  13. Good setups are high pressure to the east, with low pressure to the west pumping up humid southerlies. 2 of the biggest storms I remember in Newcastle are the 19th June and the 31st August, both in 2005.
  14. Where about in Newcastle are you? I witnessed a cracking storm yesterday (it wasn't overhead but there a was a brilliant display in the distance and this was enough to satisfy me! )
  15. I live around 8 miles from the coast, but whilst the storm is out to my west I'm getting a spectacular display! You wouldn't get this if the storm was overhead!
  16. 6 more cg strikes seen Still no rain, or thunder heard from them though
  17. Forked lightning (cg) sighted to my west now. Couldn't here the thunder though. I would guess it's somewhere just west of the A69/A1 junction
  18. Quite a few rumbles of thunder heard, though all distant. Looks brilliant to my west but it isn't coming this way
  19. No thunder here Sea fret this morning has given way to 'broken sea fret' if you know what I mean. Looks a little more promising than earlier though with plenty clouds to the west.
  20. Looking stormy again here, but especially to the south right now
  21. Location in properly, not sure what I did before I thought it was in
  22. Break in the clouds just appeared, you can really see how tall those clouds are!
  23. And here! Heavy rain, but only 1 rumble heard. Looks like they're getting it good just south/southwest of the city centre especially
  24. I saw a few flickers, definitely a storm as its been reported somewhere else, and a relative who lives over that way rang up (for something else) and mentioned it. Quite a small storm though apparently.
