  1. I was in Iceland June 2007 and it was like a dust bowl over there - lorries driving along unpaved roads left massive dust trails in the air. It was sunny most days (and almost 24 hours a day of course) with no rain at all and I remember people saying how happy they were with such good weather. It's obvious northerly latitudes do well out of northern blocking whilst north western Europe suffers. If our weather is good no doubt theirs is naff!
  2. I do hope so as autumn and winter seem to have been the dry & sunny parts of the year recently. I'd much rather seen Atlantic depressions crashing across the country with rain and gales October-December where they belong, then all this vile cool, wet stuff can give us a wide berth during May-September. It really makes our climate seem terribly bland & uninteresting when all the cool, wet and sunless weather comes in summer and all the mild, dry and sunny comes in winter! Personally this June has looked terrible statistically but hasn't felt *too* bad to me simply as I've been charged up by being out the country somewhere warmer for a week. Also, I got a decent day off work last Tuesday then Wednesday wasn't too bad either. Even this morning has some sunshine and doesn't feel cold. My garden is growing very well too.
  3. Wouldn't wanna take kids to any of the festivals I've been too... 'Daddy, why does that man have such big eyes and keeps on hugging everyone?'
  4. No gloves gladly! They went in early May I think. I only need gloves <5c normally unless its raining then more like <9c. The jacket however has still been appearing from time to time as mornings are often <12c and often rainy. I'm actually fairly cold tolerant which may surprise y'all - always the last one to need a coat. But I'm also heat tolerant too it's just the heat involves more freedom than cold does.
  5. Gladly we are many months away from the impending doom of insufficient daylight hours and the restrictions it brings. Going to be even more noticeable this year as my missus has changed jobs and can currently walk to work. But the route is not one you'd want to attempt during darkness meaning from late October to late Feb her commute will be longer and will likely involve having to use the tram thus costing more. And that's in addition to the much less safe journeys I take in dark evenings - can be quite scary at times. In contrast at the moment it is so easy - students are gone, plenty of light (even after a few post work pints) and soon loads of folk go on holiday too. As for noticing it at all - early to mid August around here. Hence why I normally prefer June to August before the rot sets in. Not this June however - ugh more like October with more daylight hours!
  6. Yes I can't call it cold today especially with the higher dew points. I'm not suffering too bad with the naff weather just yet having had a 6 day charge up of 28c sunny days/20c clear nights in Barcelona. Won't be long though!
  7. Yes being hungry or tired makes you cold for definite. No surprise really as you're lacking the energy needed to maintain body temperature. For that reason you need less sleep & food in warmer weather and considerably more in cold & dark winter conditions. I know I eat far more chocolate & greasy stuff November-February than I do at other times of year.
  8. I'm usually last to put any kind of coat/jumper on compared to near enough everyone I know (yes despite my constant warm yapping I don't feel the cold that much! But then I don't mind heat either). But walking or cycling around I quickly warm up so it's t-shirt weather for me 12c or above (unless it rains). The times I get most cold is actually coolish evenings where its been nice, warm & sunny all day and you then head to the pub and sit outside. But unless temps are still well up in the 20s you quickly chill as the sun is blocked by buildings and then just cannot warm up. Hence the need for proper warm evenings for which higher humidity is a real bonus.
  9. As expected - utterly vile conditions out there this morning. Raining since midnight - 13mm so far. Max of 10.7c. What wonderful timing to have such awful weather. Back to attempting to salvage an afternoon bbq out of this...
  10. GFS now giving 18c in the south for Sunday with the front further north again. With apologies to those further north but... the further north the better! Another 100 miles north means muggy but drier 15c instead of the current 8-10c and horrible rain. A big difference for outdoor stuff!
  11. Looks great to me! Happy to loose June to cold/rain as I shall spend most of it in places where good weather is much more likely (southern Spain and Slovenia!) then settle home for some warm or hot sunshine. Well overdue a decent July and August so here's hoping the forecast goes to plan!
  12. I see no hope at all. 12 noon - just when I was starting my bbq and look at that horrible vile chart. Not actually sure how it could time any worse. Any of the days this or last week right up to tomorrow would have been either great or at least decent for a bbq. Sunday with a prediction of 9c and heavy rain really couldn't be any worse. Time to cancel then I guess and cook everything inside
  13. Did we now make it clear? Enough of the off topic stuff now! If you have a comment on how the thread is run please contact a member of the team. If you don't like a certain poster's posts - hit the ignore button. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and of course some will be biased to their preferences but so long as we are talking about the models then that is ok. Attempts to deliberately mislead people will of course be dealt with and for that we encourage the use of the report button. Every report is read and acted on as the team see fit. Now please back on topic.
  14. Seconded - *on* topic please and no more personal digs. I'm just as despairing about this horrid weather as most of you are but lets keep our cool ok!
  15. Note to self: Never ever plan anything outdoors on a bank holiday weekend.
  16. Thanks John for that. Keeping a very close eye on all this...
  17. That thing wasn't even there on earlier runs then in the last couple that tell tale little circular isobar of doom appeared... The placement of things like this is hard to predict I know so suspect we'll have to just wait and see - 200 miles further south and I'll be under sunny albeit chilly skies. 200 further north and it'll be cold rain all day.
  18. Yeah going to need to take some decisions today about Sunday's plans... I know the south looks quite poor but how about this far north? 11c and rain is not what I had in mind when I planned a bbq and with all this fantastic weather lately (all bar two days of which have been work days!) who'd have thought our cruel climate would turn to total cack right at the long weekend. Should have known really...
  19. It is similar here. Dull & miserable - the normal crappy UK weather returns! This rain isn't even enough to water the garden - if its gonna rain I need something proper. This is just dull.
  20. Another lovely sitting out evening. Is it really gonna turn horrible from tomorrow? Seems so unreal like a slow poison steadily infecting you...
  21. 24.7c today - and there was me thinking the warmth would be fading away by now! If only it would last into the weekend...
  22. A warmer day than yesterday with a max of 24.3c. Got quite used to these great summer temperatures - going to be an unpleasant shock the next few days, especially for the holiday weekend. Just hope the latent heat in the ground means I won't have to turn the heating on again - be a horrible thing to have to do in June!
  23. Thanks for that - doesn't sound too bad then although a far cry from this past 10 days. Even today is still lovely out there!
  24. Models make for grim viewing this morning. Polar air arriving later meaning potential for rain on Sunday. BBC 5 day showing 13c and rain for Sunday. Their forecasts are of course naff at that range but still is not encouraging to see!
  25. Does seem the 'main' day (Sunday) is looking fairly reasonable. Not much rain around nor too much cloud. Certainly cool but not cold under partly sunny skies. Prob maybe 16-18c here which will do fine for the afternoon. It certainly could be a lot worse - although of course it could be a lot better!
