  1. A little overnight rain and a low of 11.8c so a bit cooler. Wind is strong again although much less warm feeling than yesterday. More sun around this morning (so far) but plenty of cloud about too. 13.4c so far.
  2. Thunderstorms for me as they generally come off the back of warm & humid weather. Snow is nice a few times in winter yes but can quickly become a complete pain in the backside.
  3. After a wet night today is dry with a lot of cloud and the odd sunny spell. It feels lovely and humid though so for once it doesn't feel cold despite the howling wind. Even got the windows open! Max of 19.7c so far - will we finally beat the max year set in March?
  4. A fairly sunny start here and feeling mild with min of 10.7c currently 13.6c. Good that we've caught up with last December's warmth at last! Upwards I hope from here...
  5. Yeah May >> September by far. May & June are my favourite months - everything is bursting into life and the days are so long - and still getting longer. September is 'nice' in so much you're getting the last of the good stuff before the descent but with it getting dark shortly after work you're restricted to weekends again if any decent weather turns up.
  6. Good to hear but sadly one day too late to enjoy for me until after 5pm. Still at least yesterday wasn't bad except bit cold.
  7. If it had been sunshine and showers it would have been great but the endless frontal rain, drizzle and total lack of sunlight has made it a very trying month. The long evenings have hardly been noticed lately due to the low light levels & rain.
  8. Theme seems to be high pressure building in the from the west. Certainly the uppers are not that high but this is May and the sun will do a good job of lifting the temperatures. To me it looks better than anything we've seen in weeks - less rain and more sun although definitely not cloud free.
  9. Yes absolutely - for the majority of people the weather is most important April-August gradually falling off to almost irrelevant in November to January. Certainly not the case on this forum of course but to most people winter weather is only really relevant if snow or extreme cold prevent them getting to places. If it rains a lot, flooding aside, it just doesn't matter as you're inside filling your belly with stews and rich puddings anyway. During spring and summer the weather can make or break peoples holidays, sporting events, weddings, school carnivals or even just their weekend. For this reason I am much more interested in the weather once late March-September than I am in November. If we could have the majority of our wet & overcast weather in winter most people would prefer it - except on this forum of course!
  10. I am certainly with you on being sick to the back teeth of all this cold, damp and sunless weather. Today is the first usable weekend day since March and am having to cram all my outdoors jobs into it! My garden is really struggling to grow, birds are loosing nests/chicks due to cold or flooding, the heating is still having to be used, I'm getting soaked all the time going to work and my bike is falling to bits having to sit in the rain all day (finally had chance to fix it today with this rare dry, sunny-ish day). This poor weather is really having a negative effect on my mood as it is making day to day activity harder and more restrictive. Everyone is moaning about the dreadful weather as well - I've not heard a single person happy or enjoying it bar the odd one on this forum. A change can't come soon enough! The long term stuff- I disagree about it getting colder overall - we've had many above average months its just that they've fallen in autumn & winter mostly with the cooler ones in summer. What I think has happened is a distinct lack of high maxima with averages brought up by cloudy warmer nights leading into unimpressive cloudy days. The last few summers have featured a lot of that and cloud seems to be a constant problem in the warmer months. In contrast winter was very sunny here and so was March. But bang on cue as we move into the warmer months in comes the cloud and rain...
  11. No where near a frost here - down to 3.7c which was less cold than Fri night. But for once, the sky is clear and the sun is shining this morning. Fingers & toes crossed we keep it at least till lunch time to sun my gasping garden! 8.9c so far.
  12. Another mostly cloudy day sadly despite the hopes this northerly would give us more sunlight. Did get some sunny spells earlier but were fairly brief. Had the odd light shower too. Cold at 10.5c max.
  13. Yeah I agree - summer just doesn't feel like summer if its just 20c with cool nights. Warm nights and hot days are pretty rare in the UK so to me dreading them is like worrying about how awful xmas pudding tastes all year long when you only have to pretend to enjoy it that couple of times once a year!
  14. I love having the window open at night - in fact I just like windows open all the time if possible. Get sick of recycled carbon dioxide laden air - most acute at work where during winter (and this spring) the windows are closed most of the time and with four people + computers it gets very stuffy leading to countless headaches as the day goes on. Getting air all day and all night makes me feel positively alive. Insects don't bother me so no problem there.
  15. Definitely back to normal - currently raining, cloudy and cold. Still it was nice to see a few brief mins of sun again to remind myself what it looks like... ugh.
  16. Yes a frost is very likely tonight and I'm bringing in my peppers and covering anything else I can. See our gardening thread too -
  17. Down to 3.5c now 8.2c under hazy sunny skies. Hopefully cloud won't ruin this first weekend sunny day I've seen in god knows how many weeks.
  18. Dryness broke at 5pm as usual. Thick drizzle with a cold east wind.
  19. Another grey day with the odd minute of sun now and again. No rain but then we haven't yet made it to the rain hour of 5pm yet.. Another cold one at 11.6c.
  20. Lucky for you then that isn't something we experience in this country then! If I'm walking around I'm the same - a light fleece. But now try sitting outside for 2-3 hours - still just in a jumper?
  21. An open skylight right above my bed solves that one! But yes as a kid in my parents place I remember a number of toss and turn nights being too hot. Don't bother me so much now as this place is cooler so great in summer, terrible in 80%+ of UK weather...
  22. I guess you could say I can wear winter clothes at 5c so why do you need -5c? Thing is in the UK 20c by day means low teens in the evening which isn't quite sitting out in summer clothes weather. 30c means upper teens by night which remains t-shirt weather. Personally 25c is fine by day for me but it needs to hold up into the evening. No use being lovely and warm whilst in the office only for it to turn chilly when I get home. I think the aim of many of us summer/warm lovers is that outdoors becomes at one with indoors. As in you wear the same clothes in and out, can have the same air at the same temperature in and out, can do the same things in and out. Essentially outdoors becomes a place to live rather than a place to shield from as you move from one protective warm/dry bubble to another. For that it must be warm enough and dry enough simple as - I mean who is currently sitting at their pc now at 9c with cold rain falling on them? No one I bet!
  23. Sounds terrible how ever did you cope?
  24. I've booked a trip to Barcelona in June. Then I can definitely get some sunshine! Been so so long since I've felt genuinely warm sun on me - probably Oct 1st last year. Just need to charge up desperately.
