  1. Looks a bit disappointing for the bank holiday weekend (as ever!). Lots of sunshine and temps into the low 20s during the working week then I note BBC 5 day (often wrong of course) saying 9c with heavy rain for Sat. Lets hope it isn't quite that bad as single figure maxima and rain seems about the worst option possible for the weekend.
  2. A cloudy and muggy morning with some light rain early on. Now sunny, warm and humid - perfect outdoors weather. The earlier light rain made for some lovely smells in the gentle humid air. Now 17.5c.
  3. Lets draw a line under the personal preferences argument. No problem stating what you like/don't like in here but please keep the overall theme of discussion on the model output! Thanks!
  4. A gorgeous day enjoyed walking around Lake Windermere in the Lake District. Got a bit of a sunburn though even with sun cream on such is the clarity of the air up there. It's now a lovely warm and muggy evening - perfect for being outdoors with a cool beer. And off I go
  5. The fear is creeping in again - we're having another stunning April with lots of sunshine and dry weather. Recent experiences of such Aprils have that wet, miserable summers have followed. Just hoping things don't go down that road again as I'm keen to have an 'outdoor' summer again after struggling since 2006.
  6. Plumes - the very best of British summer weather imo! Plenty of warm or hot weather, warm nights (yes I do love those!), abundant sunshine (albeit hazy sometimes) and good chance of thunderstorms too. Hope to see plenty of them May-September this year as they've been fairly lacking in recent years from what I remember. The 850 charts show them up well like this one from August 2003: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/2003/Rrea00220030806.gif Just looking at it makes me feel warm
  7. Arrg Ryanair have now resumed flights from tmw 0500 having said for past two days they would be cancelled. Thus I've already requested a refund via their website, cancelled my accommodation and made new plans. Will they actually refund me now?! Can see this being a claim to the credit card job.
  8. It's full refund (within 20 working days ) or rebook onto a different flight at some later time. We're not quite sure what to do just yet.
  9. Ryanair cancelled up to 1300 Thursday now so that's finally confirmed what I expected - no Poland trip for me.
  10. NATs update - flights allowed above 20,000ft above England so ok for over flights but nothing taking off from airports to south of Newcastle. http://www.nats.co.uk/
  11. hmm unconvinced yet... although on live cam there is smoke rising. Will await confirmation from a 'real' news source.
  12. I'm due to fly to Poland first thing Thursday. Even if airspace opens in next day or so it'll be chaos in airports and I for one don't feel safe up there at the moment. What rights to cancel would I get if my flight was still running but I didn't want to fly on it? I'm concerned I'll either have to fly or not get my money back (we're talking about Ryanair here!). Any ideas?
  13. For anyone stranded maybe looking at this website might help for planning to get back using alternative transport: http://www.seat61.com (a great site, used it when I planned my trip when I went by train London-Brussels-Berslin-Warsaw-Kiev). I'm due to fly to Krakow on Thursday 6am. Not looking good even if things are running by then. Knew I should have gone by train again!
  14. Ah yes a refresh of the page and it does look much darker! Not a lot to see now.
  15. Sure this is live? It's daylight despite sunset being around 9pm in Reykjavik today. Admittedly it takes forever to get dark in Iceland (the sun seems to just roll along the horizon for ages) but does seem much lighter than I'd expect. Perhaps it's delayed by 30-40 mins which would seem about right.
  16. It still gets dark in April (sunset around 9pm, sunrise almost 6am). In June (when I visited) it never got dark - only twilight... very strange it was!
  17. Well that was a sudden change! From mostly clear blue skies with a max of 16.4c it suddenly clouded over and is now raining lightly. The wind is very cold and strong too - made for a very unpleasant ride home with frozen hands and struggling uphill against the vile wind. It's now 10.8c falling fast.
  18. The arrival of North Sea cloud yesterday timed in with my trip up Kinder Scout, Peak District. The whole area was covered in the stuff yesterday. As we ascended to the top visibility fell to below 50m and the misty cloud was funnelling past at quite a rate! Then the water droplets began clinging to my hair - in the form of ice. Then it was time to turn back before we got lost up there! Certainly made for a dramatic scene - not something you usually associate with North Sea low cloud!
  19. A lovely sunny day with scatted cloud. 15.1c so far after 5.8c overnight low.
  20. 17.1c our max. Just enjoyed a few lovely pints of ale outside the pub in the sun. What a perfect spring day - felt almost summerlike with the warm air. I feel like I'm alive again after the long long long winter of hiding indoors. Long live spring and summer!
  21. 17.1c at the moment (todays max). Temperture sensor in the right spot now I think! Right, time for some pints in the sunshine
  22. Now recording 16.5c which sounds more reasonable! Just hope the plastic bags hold off the sun properly or it'll shoot up to 20-something shortly! What a lovely day it is - as good as it gets in April!
  23. OK lets try hanging it on a low tree branch and cover it in white plastic bags..
  24. I wonder if my readings are high enough.. 13.3c here but feels much warmer than that! My sensor is in the corner of the yard lying on top of soil with half a plant pot covered in white plastic bags to shield it. I wonder if contact with the ground is lowering my readings...
  25. Perfect April day - next to no wind, warm sunshine and only a little haze around. Feels warm at 12.5c - can actually get air in the house again!
