UK Aurora Watch just gone red on their alert system, error or a unexpected CME Impact?

It was expected, but not quite so soon, and loads of sightings up North.

Apparently it was 2 CMEs rolled into one....

From Spaceweather.com

CME IMPACT SPARKS GEOMAGNETIC STORM: A cannibal CME, described below, hit Earth's magnetic field on Nov. 3rd at approximately 20:00 UT. Solar wind data from the DSCOVR spacecraft show a stairstep structure indicative of two or more CMEs pressed together. A moderately strong G2-class geomagnetic storm is underway now, and the storm could escalate to category G3 in the hours ahead.

Typically clouded out here!

Took a wander out for a hour but couldn't see anything from here, although reports on FB have people reporting seeing it from far south as Leeds & Holmfirth at it's peak.

Went on twitter to see the times given when photos of the aurora were taken and compared it with a timelapse I did last night. Could just see a very brief burst on my timelapse about 9.50pm.

CANNIBAL CME SPARKS LOW LATITUDE AURORAS: Auroras in California? Believe it. On Nov. 4th, the glow of a strong (G3) geomagnetic storm spread almost to Los Angeles. Aurora chaser Hongming Zheng took this picture just outside Lincoln CA at latitude +39N:

In Abisko, Sweden, the auroras were so bright they could be seen at sunrise:
