Still some rain or showers for northwest Scotland though. From Wednesday onwards, a north/south split with further rather wet and windy weather returning to northern Britain, southern Britain, although seeing some showery spells, having the best of some dry, fine and sunny spells. Temperatures, generally near normal in the north, even cool at times, whilst the south sees a mix of near to a little above average temperatures, but with occasional warmer interludes in the southeast.

Meanwhile, rain is set to continue on Monday across Northern Ireland and Scotland, although it may become brighter in the south and east. The first week of September is expected to get off to a fine and very warm start on Tuesday, if not hot in the southeast. UK Outlook for Monday 31 Aug 2009 to Wednesday 9 Sep 2009:

Rain at times across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Bank Holiday Monday may become confined to the far northwest during the day. Elsewhere generally dry and warm, the best of the sunshine in the south and east, becoming very warm in the southeast. But it doesn't last, with rain and perhaps thunderstorms spreading eastwards Tuesday and Wednesday marking the start of another changeable spell of weather for the UK. This changeable weather with winds often between west and southwest will see northwestern areas getting most of the rain, driest conditions in the south and east and especially the southeast. Windy at times especially in the north and west. So, rain on some days, sunny spells and showers on others. Temperatures mostly near or a little above normal.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 1 Sep 2009 to Thursday 10 Sep 2009:

On Tuesday, a band of rain is expected to spread eastwards across central and eastern England, with brighter but showery weather following in its wake elsewhere. By Wednesday, the whole of the United Kingdom is expected to be in a bright, breezy and showery regime, although the showers should be most prevalent and heaviest towards the north and west. For the rest of the week and into the weekend, the weather is looking very unsettled, with either showers or longer spells of wet and windy weather, especially in the west and north. The best of any drier and warmer weather is most likely across eastern England. Looking beyond the weekend it remains generally cool and changeable, although there are signs for the weather settling down across southern Britain later.

Most parts will be dry Thursday and Friday with some sunshine after any early mist or fog lifts and clears, although the far southeast and the far northwest may be cloudier Thursday. The weekend is expected to continue dry with sunny spells over central and southern Britain, again after the clearance of overnight local mist or fog. Little change is expected beyond that in the south, with the mostly fine and dry weather continuing. The north will be cloudier, however, with a little rain at times, and this may also extend southwards to some central parts later.
