Can't see 80f being reached this weekend, perhaps just possible that London or Gravesend catches 77f on Sunday i.e. the magical 25 degrees.. next week is to far off, but the charts shown today could suggest an 80f being recorded before May is out, but I'm making no bets on this just yet, must get the weekend out of the way first.

Stephen you have to be joking-1cm on a VERY hot day as the tide is going out in mid June-August is a POSSIBILITY but hardly warrants the comment you made.

I've certainly noticed before on a hot sunny day walking into the sea as the tide's coming in across warm sand and it feels very warm, but after reaching a depth of more than a few feet you then feel the chill!

Even with full sun on the sand, where the sand reaches nearly 50-70°C? :good:

Impressive highs though and I imagine this happens every summer, I know on average Zakinthos gets about 34C in August... very hot!

Yeah, as we go into May don't forget we are easily capable of surpassing 30C.

I wouldn't say "easily capable". If that were the case then more than 50% of Mays would see 30C. I don't have the records at hand, but I doubt it's anywhere near that. It's actually reasonably difficult to exceed 30C in the UK at anytime of the year.

This Sunday seems a fair bet for 80F in the SE. Light winds, dry boundary layer and 850hPa temperatures nudging double figures. It should be close, anyway.

Luckily for us, robthefool, aircodition has been inventeed for the last few yars and I dont change summers in Greece for any other place

I think a tad early. Next Fri/Sat for me a very high chance.

once the dome of cloud from the MCS remnants passes thru, the temps will rocket - late morning onwards. however, i would say that this cloud has scuppered any chance of us reaching 80F

It seems to be places in northern England that are getting the highest temperatures at the moment- it's already 20C in Newcastle and Woodford, just south of Manchester has reached 19C.

Temps will rise smartly no doubt, but 'hot' day scuppered. 75f still likely though.

BBC just confirmed that the first 80f of the year has been reached today, honours going to Cassley in the Highlands which recorded 27 degrees, will be interesting to see whether this will be recorded as the warmest spot today once all the stats are in...

Today reminds me of what happened on the 27th July last year when the Highlands recorded values of 28 degrees possibly 29 degrees making it the warmest place that day, and it turned out to be one of the warmest if not warmest days of last summer.

For the Highlands it doesn't get much warmer than today even in 'heatwave' conditions, so for this part of the country, today was a notably very good summers day.

How did it get so hot in the highlands?
Hmm, highlands, the hottest place in the UK today? What about the West Midlands and East Wales. Meto recorded temp of 25C in Birmingham but the highlands gets 2C warmer, something aint right there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foehn_wind

Its most likely due to The Foehn effect. Thats why the warmest temperatures in January ever recorded in the UK are in The Highlands and North Wales.

I very much doubt it. Only the highlands may have a small chance again.

It was 27.3'C in my back garden at 3:40, but I'm not sure Dalcross actually got above 25-26'C. 24'C in Skye and Altnaharra!

Edit: I reckon tomorrow, Fort William.
