Yeah, the Furness peninsula never does that well, although Ulverston seems to do better than Barrow and further inland towards Newby Bridge seems to do a lot better. Dunno if you remember 1996 though? It was my GCSE year and we got a foot and half of snow - my school was closed for a week....Was ace at the time! (Having said that i'm a teacher now and I still think it's ace!)

Yeh Newby Bridge had plenty as did Lindale etc.

Yeh 1996 I was living on the Wirral. Same westerly aspect as barrow and we used to get no snow until then when a front stalled and it dumped about 18" on us. !!shok.gif

Radar looking good towards the east anyway now.

all the best

Decent dusting again over night with perhaps a fresh 2cm of snow and the radar is looking good for the next hour or two.

Hi mate, has it reached you yet? A wall of cloud is now approaching my east! will only be very light, but better than no snow smile.gif

Hiya, yes it has reached us in Pudsey now with light on/off snow and I expect it will soon be similar in Otley.

Based on 'rain today' (link: http://www.raintoday.co.uk/) I expect it will become more persistant over the next half hour and stick round for most of the day, but staying pretty light. Still, it's nice to add another cm or so on top of the 5cm last night and the 30ish cm here already

Ye and at the moment it even seems to be pepping up a little and expanding. Suprsingly not snowing here yet, but cant be long untill it does.

No weather warnings from the met office yet? Hopefully there will be a nice juicy one for sun night/monday about to pop up biggrin.gif

Err if you actually look there is for most of the country.

A dusting last night forcing me to clear the drive so I could get to the shops. No sign of panic buying but since my Mother is house bound I've stocked up extra anyway which should take sus too next weekend.

So far for Jan our average is -1.6C and if manages to stay like that which it won't it's bound to go up it'll be the coldest we've recorded sicne 1955.

We're funded by westminster, THe national Met

But never trust our forecasts if your placing a bet

Our GW agenda suits is to the core

We rabbing on day after day, the bore, bore , bore

Oh yes one coner of the map is more relevant than the rest

Yes you've got it the East and not the West

Sunday shall see widespread snow as long as its in the East

A dusting is significant well call it the Eastern Beast

The West will plough themselves out free

Whilst We consentrate on Essex, Kent and Surrey.

News 24 with its presenter across the country

Well within a 30 mile diameter of Essex, Kent and Surrey

Oh no it's an ice age 2cm in Buckingham

The tubes shut down and theres 50 miles traffic jams,

Let's concentrate on London because it's the South East

It's the worsly affected place from that Eastern Beast

lol very nice.

I think the met/bbc arent saying much about heavy snow for our region sun night/monday yet, because as usual all the attention goes to the south east! I think we could see potentially more snow than they get over the next few days (maybe with the exception of kent/east sussex)

Or it could be that the South East was the area that they were most concerned about and don't yet know how far north and west the Precipitation will reach? Potentially we could see a fair bit of snow, or the precipitation might not get this far north. If they issue warnings for this area and it never gets here they're slaughtered, and if it does get here and they issue warnings at the last minute, they're slaughtered. Who'd be a weather forecaster? And I'd be astonished if anywhere in this area gets the snow that The Chilterns get, or the North Downs.

here we are again another potential of further disruption of snow next week according to models. yikes, another cancellation of driving lessons.mad.gif

also anyone noticed when snow is in the forecast for the south they always zoom into the map showing the snow and saying how many cms for each area in the south, yet in the north they don't say sh*t all! sorry but they bloody annoy me!

lol, it was just a little dig at the south east blum.gif, the focus of the attention will be on them right now because they are the FIRST area that will witness any heavy snow, before other areas potentially later on sunday into monday.. If models stay similar heading into sunday, I fully expect the north yorkshire moors/linconshire wolds to get similar totals, if not more... And for a good covering for our entire region. :)

Locally, when a bitterly cold easterly wind blows for a length of time, the snow usually follows. Id expect it to develope in a similar way that this band of light snow today has developed, but to be much heavier..

Hi guys quick update,

Latest Skew charts show the dew not getting above 0.4c until tuesday, and the dew does not even get above 0.9c until late thursday, tomorrow and into monday the dew is as 0c or below.

Major update and less marginal for eastern areas now. With the 850's around -7 to -8 for eastern areas.
