Its been a dry May here, we have had an inch so far, so a very dry May but dry all the same. Could be some hefty showers in the coming days which will top up the figure somewhat.

We have had a very dry 6 months after the deluges we received in November - good job as well, how mother nature has an uncanny way of balancing herself out..

A pitifully small amount of rain here this evening, just enough to bring out the slugs and snails and nowhere near enough to be of any use to the plants. I would think barely 1mm has fallen since 1800 g.m.t.

The weather does seem to like to balance itself out, with periods of rain and showers followed by drier periods - (almost as though the weather has its own mind), particularly as patterns change like with pressure systems setting themselves up in completely different places. Thanks to "The Big Barrier" in the West with the high pressure having briefly established itself over the U.K has ensured a mostly rain-free month so far for numerous parts of the country.

The astonishing aspect about this month was that if I remember, May seemed as though it was going to be a mostly unsettled month at the start, but does not seem to be quite the case.

With some rain and potentially strong showers breaking out today and bringing this unsettled settled spell to a close for parts, has brought the onset for more showery unsettled conditions for the next few days, until high pressure steps back in with some warmer, settled conditions looking apparent for next week.

Got to say that I was happy to see a bit of rain today after the dry period - almost like seeing the first snow of Winter, although if I had to be honest, I was slightly disappoint with the amount that fell.

Was kinda disappointing really and was amazed how close one or two of those intense showery pieces of rain to the South got.

Made a nice surprise again to see some rain (but let's hope that the rest of the week can deliver something a bit more intense).good.gif

Yesterday's rain/showers took May's total to 15mm, but there was over half an inch approx 5 miles South

and North of my location due to some downpours during the late afternoon - downpours which here only caught the edges of.

A similar occurence yesterday with well over half an inch of rain falling within 25 miles North of BA12, but just 5mm from showery rain

around midnight has left May's total at 20mm.

Another day of hefty showers failed to produce anything more than the odd spot of rain. So stuck at 8.8 mm. It's supposed to rain tonight but can't see any organised rain on the radar as yet so I don't see that happening.

No showers at all here today but with 1.7 mm of rain yesterday evening the total is now up to 8.7mm.

A few showers are forecast for early tomorrow morning but it looks as though it will be down to Saturday for any significant rainfall.

The May record stands at 11.2 mm in 1991 so that could easily be exceeded. Second driest is 1998 with 22.1mm and it would take a wet Saturday to beat that.

No measurable rain here since 11th May now, with the monthly total still just 6.6mm (15% of average).

April and May have had just 9 days between them with over 1.0mm of rain.

Well last nights heavy rain produced 1.4 mm so now up to 10.2 for month. 0.9mm more and that's goodbye to chance of being the driest may ever.

Official rain gauge 1.1 mm so we're up to 9.9mm for the month.

The showers early this morning gave 1.1 mm here so we're up to 9.8mm for the month and 1.4mm short of the 1991 May record. It's all down to Saturday now, and by the sound of the forecast it certainly won't be the driest May on record.

14.2mm of rain so far this month here (including a few days where 0.2mm of dew was recorded) 1.2mm fell early on the 27th. Wettest day was the 16th with 5.2mm from some heavy showers in the afternoon.

Tomorrow looks like add a bit to that total but will find out how much tomorrow.

Some useful Rain heading for Cornwall on the radar - but not here it seems. 10 mins of rain yesterday evening barely wetted the ground. Went out in it, quite the novelty. Hope for some over the next couple of days, before high pressure again - else you can forget hay this year town rabbits and town grass eating people.

Managed to squeeze about 2mm out of this system so far today. Last "proper" rain was last bank holiday when we had about 9mm. In between, it's just been a few spots, and not enough to wet the ground. As you say risk of sleet, it's not looking good for the hay and silage — cows round here are now grazing fields that normally get cut.

Well if this front fails to come off it will be the driest may on record more likely than not. I'm ready to top the ponds up as well.

Well the light rain means we won't have the driest may on record. At total of 3.6mm has fallen according to the Davis. I will have to top the ponds up tomorrow though as this won't make much difference.

Only the driest may here for 2 years now after today`s heavy rain 47mm for this month half an inch less in 2008.

More rain currently.

5.5 mm of rain since 0800 g.m.t means that this May will, at best, be the second driest on record. I see on the radar there are still a few heavy showers around but they seem to be moving on a line to the south of here so probably won't add much to the total.

Today's rain amounted to a measly 1.0mm here, taking us to a total of 8.8mm for the month with three days to go.

GFS is hinting on the possibility of rain tomorrow night but apart from that it looks like nothing more this month.
