I think in regards to the airport crash, the plane had already attempted landing twice before crashing, so on assumption I'd guess that either fuel was too low to divert, or of course they had been cleared to land but the landing gears failed upon touch down.

Bucketing down here! A few roads flooded and quite gusty too.

The reliable time frame models don't inspire me with confidence for much snow, unless that easterly really powers on through... What do ye think?

I think unless we see some vast changes to the models then we can rule out the possibility of any lengthy winter blasts for the rest of this winter. However, potent ones can still be achieved in early-mid march.

Very heavy hail shower here at the moment, temperature has dropped from 7.1C to 4.8C in about 10 minutes

2 degrees here in Derry. Just drove from Ballycastle and the difference in temperature on the way home was mad! Coleraine 4.5, The Mountain was 1, Greysteel 4 and Derry 2! Really variable! The thermometer in my car has never seen so much action! Lol. Chance if some wet snow over night.

Sleety rain tonight and 2 C. Some amount of rain today 16 mm in total so far... Dew points nice and low too!

My MacBook was crucified by my son today, so no chance to look at the models properly on the phone... Any opinions?

I wonder how much it would cost to cover Ireland in snow with the use of snow machines...???

If one of the parties can add that to their manifesto then they've got my vote

Anyone else looking forward to the mild spell next week?

As much as I love the cold and snow, I think I'd prefer some mild weather to this chilly boring stuff!

Interesting developments for mid next week. Could be our final bite of the cherry for this winter in Early spring of this year.

Still looks to be quite a dry frosty affair so precipitation chances will have to be looked at closer to the time.

Agreed, things starting to look a little interesting. Though after the recent phantom easterly, I think I'll wait until it's within t120 before getting my hopes up!

Got up to a beautiful 15.8 today, under mostly clear skies with low humidity... Nearly summer like... Hopefully it's the calm before the polar storm!!!

Hows it going folks!! This winter has been so boring apart from December which was epic!! So disapointed with the way things have turned out!! Really looking forward to the summer now!! Hopefully next winter brings more sustained snow but for now i think winter is well and truely over! Even if it does snow it won't last!! Would be nice to get a nice BBQ summer this year especially as we have a baby on the way! Anyways i won't be on here much now. Will cheack in now and again but i'm sure he regional threads will be closed soon. See you all next winter.

BAck in Tipp today. Heavy squally shower here at the moment, even though the anemometer is quite sheltered, got a gust of 70km/h which is very high for here!

Well winter seems to be all over bar the shouting now,and what a strange winter it was. Classic cold in Dec but very poor since then. I suppose the odd cold snap cant be ruled out in the spring. I think maybe the strong La Nina might have done in the 2nd half of our winter. I guess that next winter will see more neutral conditions? which might be better for next winter overall? Anyway Dec 2010 will live long in the memory,i love Dec,i love xmas ,so to get a very cold Dec for me was magic even if the rest of the winter was crap.
