Could well be some thundery showers today as the cooler, moist air from the West meets the warmer drier air in the East.

Maybe as cooler air move in to the Southeast

Yep, looks like anything today will be limited to Southern England/South East England.

We'll have to wait unfortunately, Stu. :(

Not looking great indeed

Midlands has a slim chance in the form of some isolated showers running in behind the front later this afternoon. MetO Invent suggests these could merge into something heavier as the run across East Midlands into East Anglia. It is the slimmest of chances.

South of this area I would say chances are virtually zero.

Morning (just about):)

Certainly some instabillity in some layers of the atmosphere today across the London area, judging by the extensive fields of AltoCu overhead, pretty limited potential though.

I take you are talking about Ac Castellanus?

Just been outside for a swift ciggie and it does FEEL like there is potential for an isolated downpour or storm. Humidity/dew point feels up and with decent solar heating, it does feel like something could develop.

However, the limited sky I have here in C London does indicate relatively high CIN - the only clouds are at high level and even these are at a premium (to the North of London)

In respect of the charts, I am encouraged by the intrusion of cold air aloft later on, steepening lapse rates. The MetO looking at showery rain/showers, possible heavy bursts.

As with the SW/W last week, there is every chance something could happen...my feeling is that conditions are conducive, but my head is saying that I am being foolishly hopeful and am simply craving some convective action!! :cray:

Getting a bit blustery on the backedge of the CF precipitation. May have heard a rumble a few mins ago but it could have been something being knocked over by the wind. Clouds heavy with it getting significantly darker as the front passed over, brightening up to the west now.

Was a bit too flat to call it AcCas really. :)

Its essentially been replaced with very flat cumulus now, not looking very unstable at all.

Clouds have started building around here wouldn't be surprised if there was some odd drips of rain about as for thunder? hmmm there could be some cape up around 30 later but yeah we will have to wait and see.

The change of airmass warm to coooool is moving in quite fast i think.. and cloudy here now ,was clear and sunny under an hr ago.

it is likely to be a fast formation of anything to, could be wrong , just a thought though.

Indeed, all of a sudden skies gone cloudy and quite dark over London. It was clear and sunny not less than half an hour ago!

Cloud cover is generally flat though I can see some cloud which looks slightly more convective (i.e bit more vertical)

Storms today seem to have been confined to Turkey, mainly associated with the front that moved SE across the country. You can see on the midday chart, moving west to east, recent thunderstorms along the front at Incirlik airbase, Gaziantep and Sanliurfa.

Nice looking cell just developing 20 mile NW of Newcastle, should just miss my location (South Shields) by 5 mile or so, at least I'll get a good look at my first decent Cb since the thunder-snow in December..!!

That's not a bad sign for us, especially with the intrusion of colder air aloft...should help our case providing the cap can be eroded.
