I didn't agree with you earlier, Andy, but blimey, it's dark here now.

My windows have steamed up, so I can't see outside tidy, but it's certainly wintry showers now.

May I use the word "blizzard" today - extremely windy and heavy heavy snow - lovely big flakes too - this could be in for a while with the showers lining up the way they are

Had almost everything today! Strong winds, very heavy rain, hail and sleet as well as thunder and lightning! Didn't expect to see so much today!! All we need now to complete it is snow!

We even had a powercut thanks to the thunder and lightning!!

If the temperature is low enough then the snow will still stick if the surface is wet. :)

we'll probably need overnight low temps for it to start sticking - nae progging this snowy showery stuff to continue overnight and into tomorrow - so you never know!

Keep your knickers on. Ok, how's "I disagree with it" then?

The world is an interconnected place, there's plenty of businesses offering services to Wales, and the Welsh, but it's ludicrous to expect them all to have to offer it in Welsh.

And, I didn't know about the Met Office's premises in Cardiff, as it happens. You learn something every day eh?

Right, enough language zealotry (hopefully). I'm jealously reading about all you guys further south who are getting some snow, still no sign of it here near Caernarfon, although there are moderately strong winds, and the occasional rain shower.

my home town Gorath! covi dre ydwi... just been outin the wind and i can honestly say that its frrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeezing! lets hope for snow!

I'm a native near-Caernarfonite too. I'm not from Caernarfon itself, but half my family is.

Not sure what's going on here, been looking at the sattelite images, and reading people's reports, and it appears as though we're in some strange alternate universe here. Brisk winds, no rain at all now, and mostly blue skies. Just doesn't seem to fit in with the general overview of things at all!

Peculiar. But fascinating.

Wales in general could get some very wintry snowy weather overnight thursday into Friday if that little low trundles across us as shown on GFS 12z - a good few cms

Tempertue just 0.9c here and falling. Wonder if the next shower approaching from Swansea will be snow? Now sun has gone there is no chance of it warming up again between showers.

So far here today theres been a real wintry mix in the showers accompanied by a strong westerly wind.

I noticed something on the NAE 06z and its appeared again on the 12Z, the NAE seems to be showing what i believe is a shortwave running through in the westerly flow which could bring in a more organised area of precipitation across southern Wales during the early hours of the morning:

Precipitation charts below:

http://expert-images...121406_1312.gif

http://expert-images...121409_1312.gif

Upper air temps at this time are around -5 to -3C across Wales with SUB 528dam air still in place. Dew points are shown to be below 0c during this period also:

A look at the Rain/Snow chart @18hrs and we see this:

http://expert-images...121406_1312.gif

Perhaps some inland snow possible? Looking at the Metoffice forecast for Wales it does mention the possibility of longer periods of snow on the hills tonight.

Also looking at the Met Office Map by selecting the precipitation option it currently also shows some quite heavy precipitation running through during the same time: http://www.metoffice...recast/?tab=map

Perhaps the Met Office have dismissed the snow risk that the NAE has presented on the 06z & 12z runs...but it will be worth keeping an eye on the situation.

This one looks interesting for lunchtime tomorrow too - all day tomorrow has a great deal of potential - then thursday night into friday is looking good too!

Uppers will be -3C/-4C, so take that chart with a pinch of salt, I would think any snow will be reserved for high ground.

Those charts have been performing poorly as of late.

Jamie great interest on the tracking of this LP on Thursday could produce blizzards across S Wales above say 300 metres if tracking across just to the south of Wales ,interesting times ahead.

If those charts are right it should of been snowing all day today and most of tommorow. But they are not right. I can't see snow falling below 200meters. I hope it does snow overnight but my feelings say it won't.

Yes but your 240meters above sea level. I've had snow and hail showers but again Im fairly high up.

All White everyone??? Hope your all white. Even here in Magor it has been white on and off all day, well with hailstones at least, but hey that is good for here :good: . Also had thunder and lightning all mixed in, so certainly not a dull day but cold and wet.

I know, I wasn't expecting blizzards and feet of snow like last year - just cold enough to get our 1st flakes - which today we have had in a number of locations - the nae map has to be used with other info - Cardiff and coastal areas in the south weren't gonna get much of anything at all in these marginal temps - further flakes will fall in these areas over the next 24 hours - not too much will hang around - thursday night into friday could well be a little different depending on the track of the low

Even that NAE chart posted looks marginal, with barely any snow inland.

Bit of a mixed bag here today, was a bit of a disapointment, but wasnt expecting much to be onest. Some squally winds though with the showers which were mainly a rain/hail mix quite dull really. Im hoping that low expected thur/fri will track a bit further south to allow more of us in with a chance of the white stuff?, or will it be limited to say above 200m? Thanks gavin
