2 booming CGs here 10mins about 3miles from Bury, storm is loosing its base and weakening atm.

Norwich seems to be getting a good dose of thunder today.

OK, as it's going to get quite active in the run up to anything that happens storm-wise early next week, I've opened up a dedicated thread for discussion of the charts, synoptics and possibilities for Monday and Tuesday with the likely warm weather and any Spanish Plume.

Please direct your conversation for that period into here, and keep this thread for current convective storms and activity.

Pfft....just one minor shower this morning, plenty of convection each side of me as usual and some heavy rain in other areas judging by the radar this morning. Will I get an increase on 4 rumbles of thunder this year rolleyes.gif

I'm too far North of Norwich to have caught their rain, some thunder to the South, closer to Norwich, with this in the horizon, by my reckoning heading my way.

Just 0.9mm of rain so far

Typical- the moment I leave Norwich it gets a dollop of thunder!

Dry and cloudy up here in Cleadon with not a bit of convection in sight.

Now now, don't complain, we might start thinking you are "The Curse" causing our recent lack of Thunder.

Are you back for Monday? Could be (very) interesting

I don't know exactly when I'm coming back (probably not for another week or two) but unlikely to be as soon as Monday. That said, there is potential up here in the North East for Sunday night.

Had another heavy shower pass through here, with a couple of rumbles of thunder but no lightning.

Terrific squally shower here again, the willow tree at the front is thrashing about like a mad thing, but still not so much as a murmur - more noise from people taking their wheelie bins back....unsure.gif

Towers creeping up here and a very intense squally shower has just descended, I'm surprised it wasn't accompanied by some thunder.

Very intense looking line of convection exploding to life over the pennines. Line forming with N yorks - south to sheffield in the firing line.

Afternoon all, Lovely large black cell passing ovehead here (north Brentwood) some mild mammatus and heavy rain falling from its trailing edge. One rumble but no lightning seen yet. I seem to be a storm magnet lately

Yep, looks like we'll be just a few miles too far south here (we're south of Sheffield), but hopefully I'll have a view of it as it shaves past here...50x40.jpg

correction, I DO have a view, black skies and dark cloudbases to the north

That is surprising Coast, as from my vantage spot I can see to the south of me that the tops are glaciated nicely and it just "looks" like a storm!

How about this for a supercell storm,

The extraordinary photographs capture the incredible moments a 'supercell' storm reared up against a backdrop of lightning

A HUGE storm rears up like a giant tidal wave, sparking horizontal bolts of lightning. Mike Hollingshead took this snap in Nebraska, USA. The storm chaser, 35, said: “I’ve seen some cool storms but this one takes the cake.â€
