Simply WOW... craking light show to my east now, been some absolutely massive bangs and crashes. One sounded like a gunshot, which the thunder i caught on film.

Will start uploading now. Seems to be moving away to east now :)

The front has to clear the east at some point Rob, so you do have a chance. It's hardly moving at the moment though!

That's a nice positive comment Steve hi.gif

After yesterday I'm as nauseous as the proverbial exotic bird and I expect you are too dry.gif Still, listening to the thunder at Wimbledon is a bit of a bonus (says she, clutching at a very short straw)

Its starting to brighten up here now. Can't see the sun but cloud seems to be thinning. Haven't heard a rumble for about 10 mins now. Just a few spits of rain.

.....Oh wait, no we still have distant rumbles!

So long as it waits for me to get home, I'll be too tempted to storm chase if it happens when driving home and I have a pub quiz tonight!

I may be biased, but look at whats to come behind the plume out west over Ireland. Lovely crisp airmass with little to no pollution or humidity masking the convection. For myself I prefer the setups to tomorrow than the current one today, as embedded storms offer little in the way of photographic opportunities other than lightning/surface obs. In clearer airflows however it gives you the opportunity to see the cell/convection no matter what position your in.

EDIT and yes that opportunity is for most in the UK who haven't seen any as of yet. Just remaining optimistic and lifting spirits for all who may feel somewhat downbeat by missing out on all this.

Another storm coming over now, very electrically active but high based, cgs raining down and it's raining lightly. Interesting seeing lower cloud deck move SE while storms are moving NNE!

I do question the accuracy of those lightning strike maps, it shows lightning strikes as far West as Bristol and it shows lightning over my area and I can assure you there isn't even rain let alone thunder and lightning.

What are the chances of this continuing for the East into the evening?

Knowing our luck, 0% Whoever said Thetford was the lightning capital of England was sadly mistaken...(ok, he said it about 20 years ago rolleyes.gif)

we might get some nice thundery rain though :D

Me too, there's absolutely nothing in Norfolk, the skies haven't changed colour or appearance since 10am this morning...

The thunder lightning and heavy rain just keeps going and going here! Got some decent rainfall too, useful for the farmers in particular.

Edit: Torrential rain here now with big raindrops and frequent +CG lightning.

Sorry, I take it this isn't the most reliable then? Any suggestions for a better overview for me to look at? (As I'm too cheap to get NWs!)
