well, it looks like the low will track towards us- but as it's modified by the north atlantic- it will generally be average conditions when it arrives.

keep on topic please - this is the ramping thread!!! blum.gifblum.gif

I'd take a repeat of this:

http://youtu.be/Hd6DuebHliY

I remember this snow very well...daytime maximum of -5c locally and blizzards cold.gif

thats class, the legendary old bbc forecasts, will never happen now, -9C with a 20mph wind, only get -9C nowadays (at least here) under clear skies and the stillest of air

I wasnt to see those sub -10c 850hpa easterlies with great instability off the Irish sea!

It's such an amazing synoptic.

And a pembrokshire dangler to top it all off

This looks like the place to be for me for a while.

I'm depressed with America getting all the snow and the GFS showing nothing but warm for us.

I live in hope that last year the GFS did much the same and then suddenly changed overnight and started showing winter......

PS - Am still waiting for a November forecast from the lovely controversial Piers ;)

I've had my first snow fix of the year - very early it has to be said but I did have to venture above the 700m line in the west highlands to get it. I experienced a proper blizzard for a good hour with the wet snow sticking very quickly to everything - this was back on the 17th Oct. I timed my venture well as it coincided with the mini polar outbreak we saw between 17th-19th. It was good seeing the white stuff again and seeing all the mountains coated white down to 600m.

Looking forward to the first snowfalls for the lakeland fells, in normal years you would have expected the very highest tops circa 3,000ft to have seen at least a dusting by now, alas this year so far absolutely nothing and this doesn't look like changing anytime soon. Could do we a good old well developed atlantic low to blast itself across the country - we saw one last Nov around the 9th I think it was which gave some quite large falls of snow to the fells to fairly low levels.

I ordered a twin pack of sledges (for grocery dragging) and a sledge with steering yesterday. Got caught out last year and struggled to carry mulled wine / cheese without falling over.

AND I will clearly need them for the cold & 12 inches of snow (topped up each day by a heavy shower) which will last from 21st Dec to Easter.

Actually, make it 30 inches. :)

My mum always said doesn't our weather come from USA, so guess its heading over here, as further North sould be worse ???

It's the low on the charts by Newfoundland right now. It's the one that parks itself next to us next week drawing a southerly flow.
