northamptonshire is a bit of a no mans land really. it is caught between east midlands/east anglia/south east. Where exactly are we?

Officially, the East Midlands. yet border The South East, East Anglia, West Midlands. also we border Lincolnshire (by about 100 yards) lol

Edit: i forgot, we also border Rutland.

For US the 0z gfs seems to have gradually brought an event forward to the 5th Feb over the last week - IMHO it's been pretty consistant indicating that something IS going to happen. WHERE exactly and at WHAT TIME was always debatable... but if you are a glass half full type of person then it is going to snow in our region. ;)

I feel for the folk in other parts of the country as these snaps haven't been as kind in their consistency.

check here

or here: http://www.netweathe...tion=nwdc;sess=

for the 12z when it comes out after 3:30pm some say the 12z is the most reliable of all the GFS outputs but I have found the 0z just as good - probably because it's shown snow for quite a while :D How much is the fun bit !

It's been sooo quiet in here compared to some other threads - I'm sure there are more excited folk in this region..

i go in the kent one were coast and the others are

So folks, Rain, Sleet, or Snow....??!! so many different possible outcomes, it still really seems to be knife edge stuff. Even if it does come as Snow, is it going to be a short lived event or are we looking at something that will stay on the ground for a while?

Some are saying its snow then rain, and others going for snow all the way? Anyone got any comments?

Snow all the way for majority of our region I would think. However that is based on what model output is currently suggesting.

I would think any more eastward adjustment might mean those in the western part of our region do run a higher risk of some rain mixed in.

Ok so its eyes down for the 12 then....Lets hope for a very slight west adjustment so the whole region gets some.

Im surprised only one person has mentioned the latest radar images in the north sea. Heavy showers are developing quite quickly. Unsure of the exact track, and how far they may penetrate inland.??

Looking at the netweather euro radar, they have indeed developed quite nicely, they are taking a pretty much southerly track, with very little westwards movement.....however, with it developing all the time, and convection on the northern edge could well brush the east ie. 20-30 miles inland....this is in line with the MO warning for later on aswell.

Amber alert issued by meto for our region:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ee/ee_forecast_warnings.html

Issued at - 03 Feb 2012, 12:07

Valid from - 04 Feb 2012, 12:00

Valid to - 04 Feb 2012, 23:59

A band of wet weather over Northern Ireland and western Scotland early Saturday will move slowly east and southeastwards across the United Kingdom during the day. As it does so it will readily turn to sleet and snow away from western and southwestern coastal areas giving accumulations of 2-5cm in places and 5-10cm widely in the amber warning area. The snow is expected to turn to rain over some northwestern areas later. As skies then clear in this area after dark, icy patches will develop. The public are advised that this is likely to lead to some travel disruption, and it is recommended to keep up to date with forecasts as the event approaches.

Yeah looking very good for my location however I will wait until the actual day to get excited as I have seen lots of Amber warnings before and not seen a single flake.

Amber alert. Yeah baby yea....bring on the snow.

Bloody tesco have put the price of thier snow shovel up from £3 earlier in the week to £6.70. I thought every little was meant to help, I didnt realise it meant to help them!

Looking good for Saturday night here in northwest Norfolk, just wondering if there's any potential tonight for those of us in this neck of the woods? Is the feature heading from the east tonight likely to affect this far northwest of Norfolk.
