Have mixed feelings over this snow for the first time ever . . unfortunately I am working tonight so whatever happens overnight I have to face driving home in at 7am tomorrow. Will be keeping a watch out the window as much as possible though. Maybe a few shovels in the boot might be a good idea??

Morning all.

Just had a look at the NAE and if anything snow amounts have increased by a few cm compared to the 18Z.

post-1766-0-24282100-1328345937_thumb.gi

If the NAE is correct 10-15cm quiet widely with even a few locations possibly slightly more.

Shall have a more detailed look at the 06Z NAE shortly and have a closer look at the dewpoints/upper temps to try and figure out the snow ratio of this.

It doesnt look like my neck of the woods is going to get much snow, mostly rain? Is that right??

No you will get snow.

Quick update the NAE is slightly further W. This might slightly delay the arrival of the snow but could mean the snow is more prolonged when it arrives. Shall report back.

I must admit I wavered when reading the snow thread, but I'm more confident in Teits than WiB or the GFS. Have no plans today, but will have to do something or this will be the longest 14 hours.

don’t forget we now have free radar available (updated every 15 minutes) here...

....or maybe it’s worth considering a NW Extra sub today…..

This is an animation of the NMM precip type forecast for today - pink is snow..

A Much broader period of heavier snow progged for the region now overnight

12020500_0406.gif

12020506_0406.gif

Looks to me as though the heaviest falls will now be Cambs, S Norfolk, Suffolk, N Home Counties

And as TEITS points out, slightly slower evolution too. I do genuinely wonder whether this ends up stalling slightly further west (20-30 miles or so) than currently suggested by those fax charts

Yep - looks like our region is going to pull the rabbit out of the hat here, amd on the 6z NAE and GFS the 15cm mark is looking rather average. Looks like we will have snow all night into tomorrow, much of it heavy and that could give 20 cm + for some

Still snowing here, now looking quite pretty. If it keeps up like this we won't need that Atlantic front to drop snow as we are getting it all from the North Sea.

Waiting to the last minute before diverting all power to the St Ives snow shield, biggest test since last Dec 2010

Funny thing is, it looks like you could be in the best sweet spot for snowfall!
