Yes the worst of this event further east than the warnings implied into Dorset.

Our local river is up to flood warning now. There's a certain brightness in the sky, but it did that before the last seriously heavy downpour!

Thank you Evie for your update - We were wondering if we could have made the journey to Cornwall, but now really glad we decided to stay at home.

I've just run the radar loop & it looks like the rain is moving in a northerly direction, which would mean thst lot to the south is heading my way.

Emptied 50mm out of the rain gauge this morning and there is another 15mm in there now. Lots of flooding locally along the coast road but the road is now open.....i think!

I agree, it does look that way. Although it does lose some intensity as it keeps heading North.

it's been lighter rain here for the last hour, but pepping up again now as the whole body trundles north.

Been raining for over 24 hours now, no wonder the flooding is so bad around here.

29mm so far today, 40mm for the past 24 hours.

Corfe river is about to burst it's banks, and Wareham quay is already over the top, with high tide not until 2:30pm

38mm is my July average, i smashed that by the 4th, now at 90mm for the month.

Had to abandon our trip this morning as the main road was shut and the police turned us back. Pretty scary drive back and had to make a few detours to get back as it was worse than when we set out.

My weather station says we have had 50mm in the last 24 hours and the plastic rain gauge outside is overflowing (it goes up to 60mm). The seafront is littered with debris that has come down the river, there are large branches and even what looks like a garden bench.

I took a few shots of what is usually a small stream/river

Amazing... Looks like a day for finding the camp stove out in case the electricity gets cut off.

Stay safe all of you peeps in the West Country.

Here in West Wiltshire we've kind of been on the edge of the system ever since midday yesterday, the rain only really got heavy for

a while yesterday evening, for an hour this morning and again a few hours ago when a heavier showery burst came over Warminster.

I just emptied 21mm from my gauge, but it's fascinating to view the NW 24 hour accumulation as you can see how the heaviest rain

spiralled around the same part of E.Devon/Dorset with the amounts getting gradually less furtehr away from the LOW centre.

Wow Katie that's the ford at Sidmouth yea?

We drove through that last year after going to the Donkey Sanctuary.

Well while it did look like it was moving north, in the end it just fizzled out.

Left with another cloudy murky day with temps getting barely above 15c under cloudy skies.

Yep, you are usually lucky to just get your tyres wet but it was crazy today. Here is what it normally looks like, plus a video of the crazy folk week lot dancing in the ford

It' started to rain heavy again here help.gif

Final 24 hour total from the start of this episode is 53mm. Highest I've recorded since October 1999. Everywhere drying out remarkably quickly.

Nothing special here. 22.5mm in all and just another vile day with a chilly wind. Counting down the days until a holiday in the south of Spain now.

Blimey, I find that 'unsuitable for cyclists' sign a bit amusing.

Typically I am out the country whenever interesting events like this happen (as with the thunderstorm yesterday, so not amused at that), but my parents sent me a few pictures of outside our house this morning:..

post-7593-0-12801600-1341683322_thumb.jp - that is normally a road, next to an often dry (in any normal summer) small ditch/stream.

The River Otter the other side of the house has flooded everywhere as well it seems.

My weather station says 65mm has fallen yesterday and today, though I think it may be under-reading slightly.

Can't believe it's still raining. The River Frome has just gone at Dorchester, hopefully tomorrow will be better.
