Can see on sat24 the way the clouds are building in a Scotland and along the Pennines. Breeze picked up here and feels distinctly hotter than yesterday.

Also sferics showing from the showers in NE Scotland?

This is crazy I'm watching this cloud grow and the speed at which it is forming is incredible.

Not holding my breath again today. There's a capping in place meaning even when anything does break through the drier air aloft simply breaks down the convection until another 'pulse' begins to form, and so on. No significant updraughts that i've seen of yet. Just pulse-type of CUs which dissipate within the hour again.

Looks like forcing from DPs out east are triggering the line across the Pennines. I'll take a look one more time today for any signs of ascent before giving up the ghost, and just letting it come to me. Hopefully it won't be a third time of +1800kj of CAPE going to waste.

Convection has just kicked off over the Pentland hills to my south with a few nice towers gone up (Exact same place as yesterday!) Hopefully it can break the cap and deliver some more action here soon smile.png

Some nice towering cumulus around here now, I don't think it will form any storms but the low chance is still there!

One word can describe the way I feel about those in Scotland and CN England, I don't even have to say it :p

Nought here in the lowlands (I feel your pain) :p I guess most of the storms are going to be confimed to the hilly parts unless anybody knows different? We must be getting to the peak of the conditions now

It's good to see storms firing off, I said the other day in the model thread it would happen, but I was not sure where, and at what termp we would see the cap burst, turns out all Scotland and CN England needed was a decaying cold front :)

Hopefully in to next week we will all see some action, pressure remains high to the South, and we may bring in a nice southerly continental feed, the upper 850's want be as high, but still high enough to bring some high temperatures and of course with an area of LP close by, there's going to be some energy pushed Northwards so imports look likely, and home grown ones :)

TThe relevant ascents for inland England/Wales/Scotland show that with inland max temps and current dewpoints, then some kind of trigger can send cloud tops to just above 40,000ft, sufficient for pretty hefty downpours, with possible hail and electrical activity.

The most likely spots, already showing on the radar are partly due to a trigger, in this case low level wind convergence and high ground close by.

Areas to look at-see the XC Wx map are, inland Wales, Lakes area, Peak and Pennines, southern uplands and justover/e or NE of the Cairngorms.

note

the cloud tops I suggested will be isolated

Looks like lightning activity and rain on that storm near Settle has died as quickly as it grew.

Here in Queensbury there is much less cloud than this time yesterday. Can see large cu in direction of Skipton/Settle which is probably the aforementioned shower.

The temperature at 5:37pm was 26.6C with a dew point 0f 20.7C and humidity of 70%!! All that gone to waste.. and I don't even like oppressive weather.
