I finished my last exam on Monday; what better way is there to celebrate than some nasty storms?

Well, I'm sure for 'normal' people there are better ways, but for me, and others on this website... tease.gif

Dewpoints are continuing to rise everywhere. Now 17.8 according to our local weather station, and still rising. It feels incredibly sticky out there right now.

In fact, continuing our Blackadder theme from earlier today: this is the stickiest situation since Sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky stick! biggrin.png

Don`t usually get `em,but feel a "stormy" headache coming on! Really muggy and close feeling here in north Kent atm.

Lets hope we`re all not disappointed wherever we are tonight. smile.png

Was just popping on to say that...humidity feels as if it's really driven up in the past hour. It's been cloudy all day however so anything homegrown today is out of the question IMO, but for a random CZ or trough magically appearing.

Got a very very light shower where I am, probably from some elevated convection... not much but my window is getting wet. Mid level-convection is starting over the London area I believe.

Not meaning to sound pedantic, but the rain in the London area started life to the SW of Devon/Cornwall early this morning and has moved gradually E/NE

through the day so isn't anything to do with mid level convection. If anything it's a fairly weak upper trough / warm front.

Some much heavier rain showing up now over the SW approaches.

I Got to say, my local forecaster and the Meto aren't at all confident about any thundery activity in my region. Again, Ian has tweets suggesting activity will be further north, and PPN thinning in these parts.

We will wait and see, but I sure do hope this is one of those rare occasions when Ian F is wrong!

Meto and NMM couldn't be further apart!

Cooler on the coast, but increasing inland:

Does anybody know what actually may happen tomorrow? Is it going to be 2 rain bands combining for us up here (band of rain merging with thunderstorms) or just other thundery showers brewing?

No that's fine, I rather stand corrected than anything alone. It's rather horrible out there. I would have preferred a few days of heat then this to cool things down, but I guess it doesn't always happen like that.

Weather station saying 18.6 Dewpoint here! Hopefully we will get some thunder tomorrow :D How is it looking for the SW?

NMM looks very good for us.

Estofex forecast is good

Meto and Beeb forecast is crap for us!

Hahaha I say that all the time up here but still do. I think the excitement of the "possibility" makes it all the more enjoyable

I agree with that. It's a bit like ' it's better to travel hopefully than to arrive'. Or something like that. :D

Do you think we will see much tonight/tomorrow?

Cloud is thinning here and the temperature has risen to 21.1C with a dew point of 18C, not that its really going to do anything now! Seems like quite a lot in South Wales and Southern England are at risk of seeing something tonight? :)

It looks good at the moment plenty Of activity taking shape down south and dew points looking good, might just see heavy rain but I hope we see something thundery!

Just a small diversion (well not off topic!) I've animated the GFS CAPE charts to show some sort of progression through the next few hours:

In simple graphics, GFS wants us to have this:

fadaf5a75bc5822228a6ff376128bdd2.gif

It's the hours/areas in between the main 6 hours breaks that I'd like to see!

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
